Loved BL1, BL2, and most of the DLC for those.
That prequel thing pretty much sucked though.

"Most Americans..."?! A bit of a stretch, isn't it.

Let's do the math: 1042 people polled, out of which 56% -- 583.52 people -- in favor. 584 (let's round up; they probably did) people out of ~319 million total U.S. residents! Yeah, hardly representative of "most" Americans.

And... demographic? 1042 people from large cities? Small cities? Rural towns? East coast? West coast? Midwest?

This is clearly just more media spin masquerading as fact.

Every time I see "Strife" I think of the original Strife too. Would've been a great IP to re-imagine with a modern engine. Instead we get another MOBA that I sure as hell do not want to play. Oh well. =(

Maybe they should rename it while they are at it, 'cause it's not much like the original Quake Live any more (let alone the original Quake 3: Arena).

"Quake Lite"?
"Quake for Dummies"?
"Happy Fun Quake"?
"Care Bear Quake"?

Exactly. This is just a money-grab. ANd the description doesn't even fit with the lore of Tolkien's Middle-Earth; a Ranger with wraith abilities because he's possessed by some spirit? Total bullshit.

That was the problem. If you want people to get stoked about your game, you lead out with something awesome; show something that will suck players in. Frogs and mosquitos ain't it.

I played the demo for like 5 minutes (if that), said "meh", and went back to Half-Life or whatever I was playing at the time that was actually fun.

To be a "correct" Diablo successor, it should have fully procedural dungeon/zone generation, just like Diablo 2 and Diablo 1. As it currently is with Diablo 3, it's "been-there-done-that-seen-it-all already"; I'm rather bored with the game at this point. True procedural generation would have kept it fresher, longer.

So yeah, all this stuff -- these announcements of "Loot 2.0", "no RMAH", "Reaper of Souls DLC", etc. -- it's too-little-too-late; zero incentive for me to return to Diablo 3. Hell, I'd rather go back and play Diablo 1 at this point.

I doubt it gets better. Crysis 1 was designed as a PC game, first and foremost. The others are designed as console games, with all the limitations that you're gonna get with 8 year old tech; e.g. levels are small and linear because there isn't enough memory for decent-sized levels.

Steam has been a god send for indies. Their upfront seems a little high, but getting your game on the front page gets it in front of millions of people.

Assuming your game meets the arbitrary standards that Valve sets for Steam.

It's actually fairly difficult to get an indie game on Steam; you must have just the right combination of innovation, aesthetics, game-play, and planetary alignment or it's a no-go. (And they won't even tell you why your game was turned down.)

I've been looking forward to Rage for a long time now, but I guarantee if id Software jumps on the online-connection-required bandwagon, I will not be purchasing Rage. (Just as I am not purchasing Diablo 3, or any other single-player games requiring an online connection.)

In my experience "always connected" is more like "mostly connected"; inevitably, it's exactly at the moment that I want to play a game that my internet connection craps out. And there are still millions of square miles on this planet where it pretty much impossible to get an internet connection, but people still want to play games in those locations. (This is a issue particularly here in the western US.)

Gamespy is about as relevant these days as a Model T. And after experiencing Gamespy's quality (read: lameness) first-hand in Borderlands -- Gamespy just needs to go straight to hell and not come back. Ever.
