Well looking good and glad they're taking the time to communicate still, if intermittently.

My main gripe though:

No ping displayed - This is caused by Windows admin privileges. To view ping in the server browser run BFBC2.exe with administrator privileges.

No. This is caused by your inability to understand the idea that new games shouldn't have to run with admin privileges. That's the whole idea. This is a workaround until you fix your shit.

Anyone know where there are some vids showing "normal" gameplay/economy? All I can remember seeing is the endgame/experimentals/story being highlighted and that's just window dressing.

I want to know if this is a game I want to play or not, has it been console'd into irrelevance? Or is there something still there for the people who want something a bit deeper and a bit more complex? Because if there is, no one seems to be showing it.

I hope things work out well. I still have not had any concerns regarding supcom2 convincingly dispelled yet, but CT's work has given me tons of entertainment in the past and for this I'm grateful.

Medieval setting is not really my thing, but there's def a market for it so maybe this will be the way to go.

I think it's because those who loved TA and supcom really want to like this, but just aren't feeling it. That's me anyway, YMMV. It shows that the enthusiasm is not there, and that doesn't give me or probably any of the other old supcom/ta fans any smugness.

I hope it does well, I hope we're collectively wrong but we're just not getting the right signals. It's rare that you can straddle the console/PC markets with one game and have it be effective to both target audiences. Doing it with an RTS is an extra level that I don't think anyone has ever done, so maybe SC2 will break new ground, or maybe it's just not going to happen.

Either way, you don't need to whiteknight for CT. He's been in the industry a long time and will do whatever he needs to - it will depend on sales and not on what internet assholes are saying. Some of his recent comments suggest that he's getting into the console side of things more, so I'm not expecting this announcement to be of much interest to the PC gaming side of things. Wouldn't blame him, but as mentioned, doesn't mean I have to like it either.

It's pretty much because he's taken an IP that was aimed at one group, and then aimed the new one at the fratboy console crowd. It's probably the right move financially and he'd be dumb to have done it any other way, doesn't mean we have to like it though.

The fact that the dedicated servers were going to be rent only was picked up from the wording of that "suck it down IW" faq they posted, I didn't realise anyone was under any doubt about that bit...

edit: as in the FAQ they posted right after the MW2 multiplayer shitstorm

What I've seen of the new version makes me nervous. Streamlining and dumbing down are not the same thing. I'm worried that in their attempt to streamline the interface and mechanics in order to broaden the sequel's appeal, they very well may have gone too far and ended up dumbing it down. Time will tell...

This is my very real concern too, but tempered by the knowledge that I am not necessarily the core audience that brings in the big bucks. But by this point with supcom I was all frothing at the mouth (and really enjoyed the end result), with this I want to like it but can't help but go with a wait and see attitude due to the points you mentioned.

I dunno, as an old TA diehard who loved what he did with supcom... I just find myself unable to get enthusiastic about this game. Again, the comments about the simplification of the resource system etc sounds like SE came along with a meeting that started "so yeah, how bout what those guys at blizzard have been doing huh, seems to be working out well".

Hopefully I'll be wrong, but we'll see. Spring, maybe your time has come.
