I don't want a "doing the chores and getting dinner ready and cleaning and going to bed and oh god there's not enough hours in the day" simulator. I play games to get away from that.

+1. The game could be much more interesting on a slower time scale. Every time I've tried to have my Sims go have a night out on the town they're tired and want to go to bed and/or the venue is closing before I accomplish anything at all, let alone trying to set up an actual event... Both of the weddings I set up in Sims 3 were a mess, lol.

The bits on public quests that actually *permanently* change the game world, and dynamic AI that actually means mobs will move to different areas and in different numbers based upon what's going on in the world rather than static camps is pretty neat... if it actually pans out like described.

Don't mind me too much, just some major nostalgia rage. EQ was my first MMO, it was definitely "EverCrack" for me, and nothing will likely ever be able to recreate, let alone top, those memories.
The illusion of a giant living world (where even in lower level areas there were big baddies to be on the look out for that you couldn't hope to take on until much, much later) and the community feel when popping around zones looking for a camp with an open spot, asking/paying wizards or druids for rides elsewhere, or high level characters for buffs were probably the highest points, though.

Hooooooooooly hell am I hating the art style (especially the Kerrans, those are unforgivably ridiculous looking).
Blarrrrrgh. Dreams crushed, would have been better if they just never made another EQ...
I always loved, loved loved the more realistic art style and color palette of EQ and EQ2, (so much atmosphere, so immersive) and the cartoony factor is why I was never able to get into WoW.

Or just a Stargate type of game. Always wished for a game about showing up in various past civilizations with modern tech and knowledge, even if it was just a for sh*** n' giggles mod, haha

"Aaaaaand I just held off the barbarian horde with an M240."

I ran through all 60 levels of Neverwinter (solo except for the missions you're forced into a group for which are entirely optional) as a trickster rogue in a little more than a month and had a blast doing it.

If you can run all the way through an MMO in a single month... that's a problem (though that may not even be that uncommon anymore, and probably a good chunk of the reason they've never been able to recapture the appeal of the original EverQuest for me).

I'd much rather pay by the episode for what I want to watch, but iTunes pricing (and other legal services) are ridiculously high per episode. Might as well just subscribe to HBO.

$1.99 per episode is nuts.
Even Apple is moving towards subscription.

I thought all the game publishers said consumers really want microtransactions instead one-time fees and subscriptions? O_o

I'd sure feel more reassured that this won't end up being just like every other current fantasy MMO if it didn't... look just like every other current fantasy MMO... *sad panda*

Every update is one step forward, 2 steps back with all the new bugs. Doesn't make any sense how I've been experiencing far more CORE (not related to added features) bugs now than I did when it first entered open beta...

Nope, I watched the mortar landing on it and the health going down, but it actually was likely around 30 seconds, with my Stug not managing to do much of anything to the mortar unit. I was speechless. And can you not drive over infantry anymore? I even tried that to no avail...

Criiiipes can we get some term limits in place already? Though I suppose the underlying problem is that the idiots in California keep re-electing her...
Keeping driving out business and punishing everyone because of a few bad apples, while doing nothing to fix the root problems, Cali, it's totally working out awesomely for you.

Ok, gave it a go with a couple rounds of actual MP... Mortars are still completely ridiculous, and it looks like people have learned how to exploit them as bad as the AI already. I drove my tank (Stug, but still) right up to them and they were still able to fire (like... 20 feet in front of them) and destroy it, without taking losses.

I'll give actual MP a try too then. The thing that has been most frustrating in the past (aside from the twitch gameplay when I prefer building elaborate defenses, building a strong army, and then strategically advancing on the enemy) is that the playerbase has tended to quickly shrink down to pretty much only the most hardcore power-gamers, with everyone else migrating to... SC2 or something else with more marketing. Just try and find a ranked match in CoH (or even worse, DoW 2) anymore... Painful.

Gah, yeah, at least the AI with mortars is absolutely ridiculous. I thought they said this was going to be a deeper, more tactical game than before. Seems an even spazzier twitch RTS than before. As mentioned, turtling doesn't seem to work at all anymore. Look away for an instant and all your units, even though they were all in cover, some even in buildings, are completely wiped out. And yes, the graphics look muddier and cartoony than before. Don't see myself wasting much more time on this beta until some serious patching gets done. If I want to kill some Russkies, I'll just play the CoH Eastern Front mod in the meantime... /rage quit
