Look. Take Two offered George $30 Million for the Duke I.P. a month ago ...and he turned it down. Obviously he thinks he can get more shopping it around. (the I.P. remember, Take Two has the publishing rights to DNF erm...FOREVER (no pun intended)

Dont know if he figured they would sue (now) for 12 million or not. Bottom line is there is a REASON he said no to 30 million dollars. Duke will see the light of day..somewhere, somehow.

Source code?

hre ya go from the man himself that (primarily) created the Build engine (the one used for R.R. Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, ect.)

And I have been working on a closet R.R. Mod idea/assest since 2002. Now i'm worried i'll get sued if I ever release. Blah.

#21 is exactly correct. Some people will whine about the demo delay but, would they rather have the game delayed till 2008?

And releasing the editor a full month BEFORE the game ships just proves (again) Crytek supports the modding community better than many other triple A title companies. (And refreshing since I was concerned once they fell under EA's umbrella. EA has not had a very good track record thus far with regard to the modding community).

Kudos to Crytek.

Only one conclusion can be drawn from this. This is going to be the easiest engine to MOD for, period. Epic went to great lengths to make this engine easy to program (they have said on many occasions they have essentially removed 90% of the "coding" needed in the engine to create new and different capabilities with the new visual tool "Kismit" that comes with UnrealEd 3. Programming has always been the sticky point of MOD creation. But from a professional developers point of view. This feature means one thing= saving money. Because it is so simple to use it saves countless hours of program testing. Epic even was demoing the engine to a potential licencee one time while a level designer was showing cool level creation tools and the potential licencee asked if the engine could do this so-and-so-gameplay-feature that was thier cornerstone of what the game they wanted to make was going to do. Using Kismit, this *LEVEL DESIGNER* (not a programmer) had a basic functioning element of the gameplay feature the customer was wanting in literally five minutes. THAT is what is selling this engine to everybody and thier brother....for 1.5 mil a pop.

The sad thing is that I know exactly what an "E" ticket is, and those of you that do also know exactly why that is sad.

WAY too short for the 650+mb download investment (and 1gb of unpacked game files.)

On the bright side the particle rifle!! ouch. That will leave a mark...or not.

Sorry, but I have been part of a MOD team working on a farcry expansion for over 6 months. (with the development itself going on for a year) Crytek has a LOT to learn about "community support" As a new developer with a new engine, you would have thought they would be bending over backwards to support the mod community. More (released) mods= more sales of the engine. But alas, the actual support is sorely lacking. And the promised C++ SDK (which THEY posted about being released "soon" is now going on 6 months! Why would they make a thread themselves about an SDK coming soon, and then 6 months later it's still nowhere to be seen? 1-2 maybe, but 6!

This is just the tip of the iceberg. The worst of all is cryengine and sandbox in particular is an awesone engine/editor. The real time, interactive mapping is just the shiznit. Too bad the support sucks. (there is way more to the back story here but i'll spare you the details)

Bottom line is we've given up on the mod,at least for now.

It's unfortunate that (it seems) every single TK, regardless of circumstances, gets awarded with punishment online. I was being VERY forgiving at first, but after getting punished EVERY SINGLE TIME (again, regardless of circumstances) I have too, had to resort to the same, for the most part.

I get TK/Punished all the time for playing an engineer, and the idiot drivers are too stupid to see that *CERTAIN* exits to a base have been mined by me. ESPECIALLY when That base is undefended (a regular occurrence during a particular large round of whack-a-mole flag capture). I always leave at least one entrance open, perferably one that has view/access from base defense objects (machine guns/tow missle emplacements, ect so they can be basically defended by one, or maybe two soldiers) but they just spawn at the base, hop in the vehicle and floor it out any exit they choose and blow up, and then proceed to punish me for it.

About the only time I forgive is when I am repairing a vehicle and they move it. I try really hard to not get behind them to do it, but sometimes they are taking fire while I am trying to repair. So being behind is my only choise. And then they instinctively back up to get away and I get flattened.

Too bad many of us cannot even play the game anymore because of the dreaded "memory cannot be read..blah-blah, blah" error.

Played thru the entire game when it first came out with nary a crash. After all the steam updates since, game wont run for 3 minutes. Even after a total system wipe, reload and EVEN *UNDERCLOCKING* the system 3-5 minutes is all it will go. Huge threads on steam forums for this bug and it's not fixed yet. I have never had to fight this hard to get a game working (and whats worse is it played thru fine when I bought it) when everything else works like butter.

Oh, and kudos to all of those who are setting people straight on Modding. These people need to just make a GAME LEVEL and see how much work it is much less doing a MOD. No clue on how much work this stuff really is, and doing it all for free for the community and (it seems often) all they do is bitch. I say, put your modding where your mouth is. I am. (Cryengine/Sandbox)

It is true. You have to have an internet connection AND create a steam account. The HL2 boards all over are seething with very upset people who are behind proxies in college/school, folks with no net connection at home, or any other number of reasons. There really ought to be a way to activate over the phone just like XP.

Once again, the legitemate purchasers of a game get the royal shaft because they (Valve) are trying to thwart the pirates. Frankly, this situation is only going to PROPAGATE the games piracy well beyond what "might" have been for the very reasons stated above. Brilliant move Valve.
