ARK sold 200,000 copies in the first two days.

I haven't looked into that. Is it any good?

Eh I preordered Xcom: Enemy Unknown and was pretty happy with it. It helped that I got Civ 5 free as a pre-order bonus though.

I may end up pre-ordering Xcom 2 if someone doesn't stop me. Wreck

I'll believe it when I see or play it.

Been a long time since true PC-centric in ALL AREAS has been done. Hud, UI, options, zoom, camera control, key mapping, shortcuts; it all matters.

What? Divinity: Original Sin, Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity come to mind as recent games that are completely designed for PC.

What about pretty much any 4x game ever? PC exclusives never really went anywhere. Consoles suck for most strategy games.

Space Run seemed like a decent concept, but I lost interest by end-game. It became pretty obvious that there were optimal builds for every run, and you simply ran through runs over and over again until you figured it out. Major shield here, big gun there, missile set here. There was no way to get really creative with it.

That was my experience also. I very much like the concept, but the fact that you either placed stuff in x way or fail was a big downer.

I think they tried to make the game too hard instead of fun.

Wasteland 2 was great and Torment is looking to be pretty sweet aswell.

Keep em coming!

I was under the impression that Wasteland 2 had really crappy combat and some other issues. Did those get fixed?

Been enjoying GC-III. The tech-tree isn't as straight froward as the last game, but that's mostly a good thing. I think it helps to eliminate some of the rock, paper, scissors feel of combat. Colony management feels better too. The adjacency bonuses are nice as they make you plan the setup of colonies a little more. The special tiles seem to have an unfortunate tendency to provide tourism bonuses when there are like 1 or 2 tourism improvements further into the tech tree. Still seems to be a few areas where I think some small adjustments or additions would improve things but overall a great game.

Getting past the combat is difficult for me. Not just the fact that it's hands off, but the fact that it is so difficult to get the viewer to sensibly show the battle. That, combined with any sort of pre-combat deployment/engagement options for fleets is a huge annoyance. I'm not saying it has to be Sword of the Stars or anything, but Stardock could have done much better in this area.

Either that or exclude combat period if you aren't going to make it compelling. It makes a huge joke out of having a ship designer.

If you button mash at above the default difficulty you are going to die to everything.

Which is exactly how it was in W2. Surprise surprise.

That's why difficulty levels exist. You can button mash in the Arkham games too, but up the difficulty past derp and then try it.

CDPR isn't a AAA studio, and they don't have the number to pump out titles like that.

I agree they don't have the resources to pump out titles on that kind of a yearly schedule, but I completely disagree, they ARE a AAA studio.

Also, please let's all note that Ubisoft and EA are not studios. They are publishers. They control the huge amount of money needed to get those yearly releases rolling out the door on demand.

CDPR is a studio. It isn't a publisher. It doesn't have the kind of financial weight to it that large publishers do.

What is Cyberpunk 2077? If it's an MMO then Im going to go out on a limb and say, not interested.

It's basically this.

Most people thought it was farther along though. Certainly not 'we'll talk about it in two years' type of along. Why did they even announce it when they did in the first place?

What a fucked up timing for Styx to go on this nice sale, with The Witcher 3 just released. I would've bought it for 10,- without second thought if I wasn't more than sated already. Styx is a stealth game like the old days -- where THIEF 2014 fails, Styx delivers: it's unscripted, unforgiving, and there's a freedom of movement like jumping and clinging to edges not restricting you from exploiting the environment that makes this stealth game fun and nostalgic in many ways.

Hey!! Stop trying to make me spend money when I have no intention of doing so...

I don't think people realize just how diverse the PC gaming audience is.

PC gamers are much more prone to fall into genre locks than console players. There are much fewer games which every PC gamer has to play than is the case for console.

There are people who only play turn-based 4x games(and those further subdivided), people who only play sims, people who only play racing games, people who only play historic grand strategy games. Or at the very least many people who only spend day 1 money on those genres. Console gamers tend to embrace multiple genres of games more easily and readily.

Every now and there there will be a Skyrim or Total War which will grab whole swatches of PC gamers, but that's not the norm, it's the exception.

I guess we just have different priorities. For me, combat animations are pretty much at the bottom of the list when it comes to RPGs. Things like quest design, skill checks, dialogue, customization, story, etc, are all much more important to me and Dragonfall handled all those things very well.

They wouldn't be that high on my list if they didn't jarringly make a character that I created seem so much the opposite of what he/she is supposed to be. If I was playing a wizard or decker, I would likely not care, because they use other means of fighting.

If I create a martial artist, it is especially annoying to me to see that character look like something else entirely in combat. The animations aren't passable, they are downright laughable. Who holds a katana like that? What type of hinges would your joints be attached to to kick or punch effectively like that? It looks really bad. It breaks my immersion.

Yes we have seen the animations. Just use your imagination like when playing pen and paper ;).

I don't do PnP. Never have. I play PC games because they offer the visuals in addition to the other mechanics. If they fall short there, then I could just as well play PnP and forget the PC.

...really? That's the dumbest reason I've ever heard for skipping an RPG, especially an isometric one.

How is a reason that kills my immersion dumb? If I choose to play a certain character and that character fails to convince me that they are what the description says, then it pisses me off. Have you actually looked closely at the animations for the sword and unarmed combat in the game?
