Are The Poets of the Fall responsible for this? They had some great tracks in Alan Wake. Children of the Elder God being one of my favorites.

I still don't want an AMD/ATI card.

Not sure why I'd pay to have to wait for fixes for practically every game ever.

"Man I sure saved a bunch and stuck it to those nVidia-tards!"

"Cool man! Let's go play some <insert new game here>"

"Yeah...I wanna but I gotta wait for a fix first...can we play something old...er?" Embarrassed

Do you really not see the irony of posting this commentary in a topic about a Nvidia driver fix for a brand new game they had some release driver issues with? AMD has a terrible track record with this stuff, but it is mainly in their history as you don't hear much about newer games having issues, and when they do they are resolved pretty quick it seems. NVidia are the ones who have been screwing things up on the software side for a while. Geforce Experience is a fucking mess still, and their drivers are up to almost a half-gig now. Shadowplay/share is still a broken mess. Their installers are starting to unravel because of typos and registry errors with older drivers, to the point that using something like DDU is necessary to even install newer versions of geforce experience and other elements of their "software package".

Both companies are shit in the software/driver category right now. Yeah, they work.. but there is a lot of BS involved with either of them anymore if you look at the whole picture.

I think a third option in the market would work wonders to improve competition, quality and price, but no one else seems to want to dip their feet into the high-end graphics market.

Maybe (classic/traditional) RTS games simply represent a genre that that will never have huge player bases. Starcraft is pretty much a huge exception when it comes to sales numbers and that due to eSports and South Korea.

Perhaps the solution isn't death of the genre or a hiatus but instead a rethink of the resources necessary to make an RTS. Executive Assault and Warshift are essentially one-man efforts aren't they?

Maybe dialing back super flashy graphics and expensive cutscenes and simply concentrating on fun gameplay is the key to not sinking yourself into a financial hole when making these games.

Unlike this series.
Wish they would have updated the original instead of what they did

Didn't they bring it back closer to the original with this? It was DoW 2 that removed all actual RTS stuff wasn't it?

Testing a so called gamers rig that has HD 4000 graphics is hilarious, about the only thing you can play with that is maybe tetris. You would think someone at HARDOCP would have caught that mistake.

I dunno, I think the big news here is that a hard network connection is better for gaming than a wifi connection! Who knew! We can thank the quality journalists at PCGamer for this breaking news!

Maybe it will yank our "wireless VR ftw" proponents back into reality though.

But Virtual Reality is so much cooler!

Sometimes a classic game is classic because its design transcended the limitations of the era. Without those limitations, due to the advance of technology, those games would just look and play terribly. This is that game...

Pretty much. This isn't a needed thing...

BANDAI NAMCO says this does not make it a free-to-play game, apparently trying to avoid the stigma this carries.

Gee, if there was just some other word they could use to describe a smaller section of the game that you can download for free and try the game out. I guess it's a shame that the English language simply lacks the vocabulary to describe such a scenario.

Heh heh! Good one!

This game is a good deal at $10.80 on the Monthly Humble Bundle if you previously grabbed a bundle and never subscribed. The DLC is pretty annoying because most of it is in the game, just not accessible to you unless you pay...which would be fine except the cost of DLC at this point exceeds the base game on sale and it's a bit P2W if you want to maximize your PVP potential.

I care not one whit about PVP so that means jack squat to me. I picked this up for $12 by subscribing to the Humble Bundle Monthly thing. I'm supposed to get a bunch more games by the 6th of March in the same deal as well. If they aren't worth it, I'll cancel and still have TW:W.

I'll pick up the DLC bit by bit as I play the different factions. Not really in a rush to have all in one go. So hopefully as sales come and go, I'll still get it all on the cheap side.

I run Windows XP and except for the occasional (weekly or so) malware infection it is great! Plus there is no built-in spyware, you get a few random infections but being in a botnet isn't all that bad.

Not sure if serious...

I'm saying make sure your best talent has a good reason to stay.

Yeah, it's called profit sharing. They obviously didn't want to be there to begin with. So they made enough to get out and do what they really want instead and what's wrong with that? Why should they have any loyalty to a corporate master who'd drop them like a hot potato the moment the stock takes a bit of a dip? They owe their employer nothing. Giving people a reason to stay is called ownership. Just look at employee owned companies like Winco. Turnover isn't a problem. You have a real slave mentality, you know that.

Is Valve a publicly shared company?

Except that's not what he said. He gave direct examples as to why he didn't like the game, along with information about the game's weaknesses. I'm glad I got this other perspective.

Oh, wait. I guess I should have been, "Oh, look! Here comes the 'I'm so cool because I didn't actually read the post I'm responding to and that means I can attack indiscriminately.' I'm NOT amazed that it takes 4 or fewer posts for one of those to show up..."

It's exactly as Strange said. His examples don't actually reflect the truth of the game. Like the fact that travelling from point A - B can give you side missions from distress signals, discovering new mining belts or transponders to hack which reveal loot, hidden places and info like pirate ships with bounties etc.

Ships are substantially different. Some ships don't have good broadside capability but may make up for it with more turret slots for example. He also failed to mention that there is a very decent plot to follow, a galaxy that feels alive with actual events affecting commodity availability as well as a faction system with unlockable equipment and ships for each major faction that you can join like the mercenaries guild or merchants guild.

His take on weapons is also off. Sure there are different levels to the same class of weapon but the number of different weapon types is substantial with special weapons you can only look from enemies as well. You can pursue non-violent options by hailing enemy ships as well as engage in piracy.

You also may want to ask yourself why he is in the minority for an indie Steam game with 87% positive reviews out of 3700. Could it simply be that he doesn't like the game and the problem is him?

Game is easily worth full price let alone a steal like $7

Not recommended. Not even at this price point. RG is an endless grind.

You waste a lot of your time going from A to B, then looking for/collecting objects, repetitive dogfights, then going back from B to A (A being some space station, B is somewhere far away from that space station). Repeat this procedure 5-10 times and you have the cash to upgrade your MK-1 laser to a MK-2 laser that has slightly better stats and looks exactly the same.

Game saves automatically and only when docked at a station.

Enemies have unlimited ammo, you don't (and you will run out of missiles FAST).

New ships only come with more weapon slots, they look different but feel exactly the same.

BORING.

Oh look! Here comes the "I'm so cool because I disagree with everyone else and I know I'm right" guy. I'm amazed at how it doesn't take more than 4 posts for one of those to show up.
