I imagine people at EA talking this over and being like "Wait, what do you mean this isn't working? How can people be angry over this?" "Forget that, what do you mean it's LITERALLY not working and the piracy is WORSE then with everything else?! That's impossible!"

Really, a major part of the problem in this entire issue boils down to two things:
1) The inability of people, especially businessmen, to change and adapt*
2) The inability of people to admit they're wrong about something and, as a consequence, just keep pushing and pushing their original concept to the detriment of all.

* Seriously, businessmen are like 500 year old vampires in a White Wolf RP who need to go outside for once, and then their ghoul has to spend ten hours convincing them that yes, they need to wear jeans and a T-Shirt to blend in because the frumpy frilled french shirt they still own from being alive is out of fashion.

Didn't an ex-employee say not long ago it was cheaply outsourcing the GPU manufacturing that caused the most number of failures?

Customer service will dwindle and dwindle as long as companies still make money. EA is ridiculously rich. If they start to notice that poor customer service is a reason why a substantial number of potential customers are buying product from their competition, they'll improve on it. Otherwise, why would they spend money to fix something they don't need?

::Sigh::

I enjoyed GoW1. The idea of cover being an important part of gameplay was innovating and none of the half-assed copycat cover systems in a third-person game have yet to match up. It was one of the more atmospheric apocalyptic settings that's been out in awhile, and, moreover, the port had a few more hours of real content to speak of, as well as more intelligent enemies to compensate for the keyboard/mouse watering down the challenge.

This is just retarded, though. Considering the 360 is basically watered-down PC in both construction and what everyone seems to think it's capable of (compare both versions of Mass Effect to each other) there is no reason why this game couldn't get a PC port with minimal effort. When they say "Gears is...first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we're focusing on that platform," what they mean is, "We're too lazy to bother optimizing the game for another platform like we did last time. And also, Microsoft paid us off."

As for the Halo 2 port...I wouldn't touch it after playing the first game and seeing how badly that port was handled, not to mention how long it was after the console release. And quite frankly the Halo games just suck by comparison to real FPS games.

Believe it or not, Halo 2 is a much better game than Halo and Halo 3. It's visually more interesting than either despite the inferior quality of graphics compared to 3, and the storyline actually seems to be written by an actual writer and not some frat-boy hack who hasn't passed English 101 yet (this made Halo 3 especially jarring for me, especially once it started outright IGNORING important goings-on from 2) Most shocking of all, aside from the Vista exclusivity BS, it's a much better port than Halo 1. By far.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Halo 2 fixed all of Halo 1's most glaring problems; unfortunately, this made it completely incomprehensible to the target audience, who, of course, totally ate up Halo 3/

I think all the vitriol for this doesn't stem from the fact that Microsoft wants to make money from a successful franchise, but rather, that this successful franchise is something incredibly bland and insipid but nevertheless eaten up by the masses who will defend its non-existent merits to the death.

Wow, if I wasn't uninterested in this before, I sure as hell am now. What in the world is the point of this conversation? "Our beta exists so our target release date has actually been met because a few people we selected are playing a test-version of the game." WTF?

DICE, you are boring. World War 2 was long, long overdone by the time Battlefield 1942 came out. Battlefield Vietnam was terrible, Battlefield 2 is far outclassed by CoD4, Bad Company suffers from more consolitis than every other console FPS, and now this? I am not even intrigued, let alone impressed enough to switch to this from Team Fortress 2. And the sad thing is, this isn't even supposed to be directly competing with TF2, because TF2 sure as hell isn't targeted at casual gamers. But ripping off the art style is just putting it in that position.

I actually still play and enjoy Battlefield 2142. It was some interesting futurism that avoided being excessive. Now if only we could get maps for it with more color than grey or brown...

GTA4 was the first game in the series that really grabbed me. I was let down by the graphics, there's a lot out there that looked better even a year ago, but making them less blurry can only be a good thing.

Count me in. Silent Hill never scared me as much as the old-school Resident Evils, because shock scares work better on me than atmospheric ones. Still, Resident Evil's moved away from that, and Silent Hill didn't have to make me crap my pants to be damned good.

Kind of worried about the "enhanced combat system," since being completely inept with weapons has always been a charm of the series. Still, the fact that they're at least bothering to work this into the storyline instead of being lazy about it is a good sign.

This is why I'll always stick with Valve. They aren't perfect, but I'm hard-pressed to think of another dev house that would release something like TF2 and then be smart enough to even get as far as thinking of getting some variation into the setting.

I don't mind a few absurd achievements now that you don't need every. Single. One of them. To get the unlocks. The Pyro was like this, many of them would come from normal play, more than enough to get all three unlocks, with a few that were on par with the Medic pack.

Oh god, why did they think Big Pharma in reverse was a good idea...

I actually bought the PC version and couldn't be happier. It's everything good about the original with a next-gen look and even more crack. The extra five dollars didn't seem like anything to get my panties in a bind over. I don't own a PS3 yet and I sure as hell don't support Microsoft's "less credit-card fees for us!" points currency, or their retarded Live business model in general.

As much as I'd never permanently jump to Direct2Drive from Steam, it does give me a nice .exe file and a CD-Key I can copy to a text file so I can run it anytime I want.

I've never understood why method of delivery is such a reason for bitchfests these days. Why doesn't anyone play the fun games anymore?

What classes are all of you using the Kritzkrieg on? It's pointless with Heavies and Pyros. A good Soldier can make use of four crit rockets, but the reload time usually kills this usefullness. In my experience, the Kritzkrieg is most successful when hanging behind my own teammates while kritting a Scout's pistol (rapid firing speed) and especially the Spy's revolver (decent firing speed, quick reload, 180 on crit.)
