A refreshing move by AMD, kudos to them for listening to feedback and doing right by people. Intel should take note.

The consensus is the steam hardware survey. Or just look at ProtonDB sometime for your favorite games or modern stuff you're interested in playing. I've been running FreeBSD and Linux for a long time but I still run Windows for gaming. There is no real benefit to native Linux gaming, you just get severely reduced compatibility. For some people this doesn't matter but they are the 0.8% year of Linux on the desktop types. Most people don't care about what their OS is and just want to play games without hassle.

But hey don't take my word for it. Go grab a copy of Manjaro and try to game for a few months.

hhahaa Well I just point to the steam hardware survey in cases like these.

https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam

95% of gaming is Windows, 86% is Windows 10, 4% is OSX
Linux gaming.. 0.8% and people with VR 2%

And even better, OSX has a registry equiv. called defaults (configs manager) and the Launch Services Database (file allocations) too. So less than 1% of PC's on this gaming planet have no registry or registry-like system whatsoever. ^^

So yes, Registry in 2020 is definitely a thing, and the more complex an OS gets the more they need equivalents, maybe done better, but still same principles.

It's still nuts that VR somehow surpassed Linux gaming in such a short time period. Unfortunately gaming on Linux is a pretty subpar experience compared to Windows with little upside. Even the rosiest picture from ProtonDB is pretty stark, filled with compatibility and performance gotchas. Without OEM and software support from the larger players in the industry it's always going to be a niche of a niche thing.

I loved Bloodborne but damn that game needed 60fps.

I'm actually going through Dark Souls 3 again now and despite it being less open I'm having a fantastic time. I really love the weapon balance, pretty much anything works and the playstyles are so different that you get a lot of replay value. I love the integrated PvP too, it works so well and leads to some pretty intense gameplay.

The Odyssey open world was absurd and filled with repetitive nonsense. The argument I always hear is "oh you don't have to do it!", never mind that just traversing it is ridiculous and that there was actual level gated content in the game. This not good news but also unsurprising. Something like 10+ studios work on these games now so the copy/paste design makes a lot of sense in that context.

2 hours isn't enough. A lot of games you need that much time to get setup and learn what the hell is going on. Never mind if the game isn't fully developed or a bugfest, how well it runs on your particular rig, etc. Give people a full day.

I can't say I agree, I find most non-MP games 2 hours is more than enough time for me to tell if I like it or not. MP is a different story but generally speaking people know their taste already to some degree.

Epic has done well lately after reversing course with their developers first mantra. We've had some good sales and actual feature iteration. That's the way you compete with Steam.

The trouble with Anthem is that it had nothing going for it other than the flying. The gameplay loop was stale dated, the AI was atrocious, the story was utter nonsense and even the graphics felt uncanny valley because Frostbite seems to be only good for establishing shots. Seriously if you look at the last 8 years for EA it's just been a disaster for most non-Dice projects with Frostbite. The best thing they could do internally would be to ditch it for UE again, royalties to Epic be damned.

It is interesting that they're going to attempt to revive it but I'm not sure what the point is. Anthem never had any real promise or ambition that was worth this sort of effort.

Dang it, I told myself I wasn’t going to buy anything until my backlog was reduced, but FarCry 5 for $5 was too much for my weak constitution to handle and I caved.

It'll be interesting to see what you think of it. I got Far Cry 5 with my CPU as part of some promotion and I really enjoyed the previous entries in the franchise. Far Cry 5 I just couldn't get into. The story is just some of the most bizarre, inane nonsense that Ubisoft has dreamed up and worse, it doesn't gel with the open world aspects of the game at all. They also do the horrible story nonsense of take control away from the player, kidnap you and make you listen to exposition for far too long. Then they do it 4 more times. Just nuts. The skill trees were fine but the gameplay loop just felt really repetitive and the combat had a lot of jank. I did like just chilling out and doing silly stuff like fishing but the way its implemented is cursory.

Yep, pretty much all of their regional storefronts and the main page are dead. Even Fortnite bux can't overcome the gamer demand phenomenon. I would be worried about this bringing more cheaters to GTA:O but really its a disaster already anyway.

I was able to get my redemption through the launcher itself, something to try.

The Pixel program inside of Google is definitely a mess. I don't know what they were thinking with the Pixel 4. Worse battery life, removed fingerprint sensor, half baked facial authentication, bizarre gesture nav and you still pay iPhone prices despite worse performance in nearly every metric. They really need more direction from leadership for what the goals are rather than just chasing Apple from a distance. They could've had the entire midrange market to themselves but basically slept at the wheel and now the iPhone SE and a pile of random Chinese phones are going to own that instead. They've exited the tablet market entirely now as well.

Google and hardware so weird, they've throw billions of dollars at it and largely failed. I guess it makes sense because they're still a software company first and foremost.

I have no problem believing the technical claims surrounding their custom built bus and drive. Outside of convenience factors though it doesn't matter much to me. Sure it will be really cool if they can speed up load times to almost nothing but I'm buying a PS5 for the awesome exclusives first and foremost.

So running over wildlife is fine, but harming those that do THAT'S criminal? Your moral compass is pretty out of whack with a healthy dose of human superiority complex.

So every single car who will run over that bag of nails is responsible now? It is fair to endanger everyone driving on that road?

You might want to check your own compass there.

Nothing says slow down like a bunch of nails scattered all over the road.

Are you going to setup a camera to record everyone speeding, meticulously review the footage then sit out there waiting for them with a bag of nails? Or just spread nails on the road to affect everyone, screw the people doing the limit? I guess you can do that, it will be a speedy trip to prison or perhaps getting yourself seriously hurt by a road rager but have fun.

Or you could just get a sign that says slow down and shows some ducklings on it. Yeah let's go with Plan B.
