What boggles my mind is how fucking slow downloads from Microsoft's servers are. I get probably a third of the speeds I see from Steam servers.

This from the most ubiquitous software company in the world.

Not to mention the one that promotes Azure at every opportunity.

Just going to echo others that this is a non-story without a major store re-design and a serious commitment to curation. The Microsoft Store is a fucking wasteland of illegal app/game clones and malware.

There are more PC distribution stores than ever before and wanting access to the steam platform without paying Steam is kind of hilarious. In fact Steam is one of the most expensive platforms for games these days and I shop elsewhere frequently, whether they tie back to Steam or not. Steam is successful because of its wide variety of features appeal to a large mass of users. Competitors often launch half assed clients hoping to cash in with freebies and silly stuff. Steam's terms are fair and represent 18+ years of investment and ongoing costs. There are many other stores on the PC, its an open platform.

It is incredibly frustrating. I just want to buy a new video card. My 1060 is OK, but I'd love to upgrade...oh well. Keep waiting.

I've got home built automation tools and it's still challenging to get anything in a BB drop. Amazon and etc forget about it without a custom built script using VPNs to avoid shadowbans. It's just a total clusterfuck right now and the miners don't help the situation.

Self driving in the city is a really difficult problem to solve without vehicle to vehicle awareness networking, there are a million edge case scenarios. Humans aren't even good at this, look at our stats. I agree that city self driving is pretty much hype at this point. I don't think Tesla can win this, they don't have enough overlapping coverage to make safe turns in all edge cases. I don't believe there will be a eureka moment or company for this even, it will just be gradual iteration and almost has to be by necessity for public acceptance.

Driving assistance programs on the freeway (Supercruise, Autopilot, etc) are a different story, these are quite far along and the variables involved are far less than city driving. This is a "solvable" problem.

Nerf that ethereum mining so people have a shot at getting one please. Preventing people from re-flashing the firmware to a lower version is a good step, software and hardware lockout will stop all but the most determined miners. The 3060 is what they want anyway due to its cost/perf.

Sweeney is an active land conservationist in the state, where he has bought about 50,000 acres of forest land to keep it from being developed.

Self-publishing Hitman 3 was a big risk that really paid off and I'm sure the Epic bag of money didn't hurt either.

Hitman 3 was released in January btw, it's just not on Steam yet.

Gamers are so gullible.

People like Diablo 2, they want the fresh coat of paint. No one is being fleeced there. Star Citizen, well that's a different story.

This looks crazy lackluster. I don't know why but it does. I expected something greater to carry the legacy. I think Age of Mythology Extended Edition looks better than this.

It is very lackluster, at least from what they're showing here. Even with how rare they are, I'm not getting excited over an RTS that is just the same old gameplay with some slightly updated (but still pretty terrible) graphics. IMO, it's a sad state of affairs when the most popular entry in your 24-year-old series is the HD re-release of the one from 22 years ago... Talk about resting on your laurels, this fuckin' franchise must be completely covered in bed sores by now! Give me some systemic innovation, bend the genre, really wow me with some bleeding-edge visuals, SOMETHING. Thank the gods for indie developers, 'cause they're the only ones making RTS games that interest me any more.

What should a modern AOE game look like? The trailer definitely has a "this was done on a AA budget" feel to it but I don't think it looks bad by any means.

They've said 5 years for the apps and database but that was on the support forums so who knows.

Damned shame, I love my Harmony and HDMI-CEC is still a buggy wasteland full of quirks for those of us with AVRs, several devices and so on. I guess this was inevitable due to smart TVs and most people only needing streaming services but it still sucks, the Harmony Hub was awesome.

EGS lost $$ in millions, Fortnite made $$ in BILLIONS, it is still a great business model.

Fornite was down from $2.4b to just over $1b. Their fight with Google and Apple on the mobile side has been costly to say the least and Fortnite's streaming metrics are not all time low but seem to be on the decline.

The Epic Games Store itself has nothing tying users to it due to lack of features. They throw some free games out, people redeem them but don't really stick around. DLC sales are exceptionally poor on the platform with many devs delaying DLC launches until the Epic exclusivity ends to get a good bounce from Steam. The client needs a much faster dev cycle and they need to build out the API significantly. Firehosing money around has been fun but if they want to be a serious platform they need to compete on features. They had a chance to buy Discord but it looks like Microsoft might be closing that deal soon instead. Shame, would've put them ahead or on par with Steam in several aspects.

Not even Epic can afford to give away a GTAV every week.

Indeed, their court submissions indicate they're losing quite a bit on the store and don't expect it to profitable for a minimum of two years. But hey I'll take my free games, I don't care if Epic makes or loses money

Well, yes, in the literal sense.

I mean, Nvidia at least is blatantly selling cards outside the PC gamer market, in addition to whatever bot buying/gray market buying of cards is going on. So the shortage is worse for our side of the market than it would be sans cryptocoins, but I guess that ship has long since sailed. :|

Nvidia is selling binned stuff for miner cards, most of it is rejects that you don't want anyway. The demand for the 30xx cards is just absolutely bonkers in general, this wouldn't really improve supply.

According to this video they used AI to upscale the textures to 4K. For a $59.99 price tag, Bioware couldn't be bothered with recreating them in 4K. You know: painstaking giving every texture the love and attention it needed. No, they went the lazy route.

I don't really agree with your conclusion here, the textures in the first game are actually ideal for AI enhancement as the game is filled with repetitive and simplistic texture designs. All they really need is someone to supervise the output.

Anyways shame you guys will be missing out but I'll be happy revisiting the Mass Effect universe, warts and all.
