but what the hell, did you guys only play the original version on release day then never again? It got patched up quite nicely, and has been playable for at least 7-10 months.

Many of the significant number of quest bugs took several patches to actually fix and it wasn't done in a 2 week time period or something.

I may upgrade to Win 10 anyway. Beyond the whole tracking/privacy debacle, is there any reason not to?

The privacy stuff was really overblown anyway but that aside there's no real reason to hold off on an upgrade. The changes to licensing are less favorable to consumers but only if your hardware hash changes a lot and even then you can usually just do the phone activation thing. Its pretty much boring old Windows as usual with under the hood improvements. Most of the kinks are worked out and device compatibility is excellent. Just run the setup wizard and it will check your software/hardware first to make sure.

I would not be hesitant to move to Windows 10. It is by far the best Windows OS ever released. It seems most people are expecting a Windows 8 type experience but its far from it. It takes the best parts of 7 and 8 (yes there were some good parts about 8 but Metro was not one of them) and then improves on it even further

I wouldn't go quite that fanboi over Windows 10, but I've been enjoying it. 1 or 2 minor speedbumps, and not quite as much visual control (options are there still but they simplified some of the UI elements which I don't care for, especially with control panel type stuff), but so far so good.

There's a new build in the Fast ring with colored title bars again which was my biggest beef with the UI overhaul. I'm also not a fan of the reduced size for icons in the task bar but oh well. Aside from a few odd problems its been a fairly positive experience.

I quite enjoyed it, but never finished it. Once I finally made it to Hollywood after ~ 60 hours, and realized it was a monstrously massive place with tons of factions and inter-connected quests, I just gave up. I'm already not a fan of huge cities in RPGs with too much stuff to do at once, and getting me to another such city 60 hours in really doesn't tickle my funny bone. (Pillars of Eternity had the exact same problem for me.)

However, up until that point I thought it was an excellent game. Hopefully they've done some balancing with regards to the skills. It seemed fine in the first area, but once you got to Cali, 95% of all skill checks were at 10+ difficulty, which was ridiculous.

From what I recall getting to Hollywood was about 2/3rds of the way (took me about 90 hours to complete the game and I tried to do as much as possible). So it wouldn't be another 60 hours but still substantial. While there was a lot to do Hollywood felt like it connected more efficiently (not unlike the rail yard section that felt like a marathon that never ended).

As for the skill checks I think the intention was to really specialize your characters and/or use trinkets to boost skills. The story also provided compelling reasons to revisit most of the early Cali locations as well (ideally once you leveled up a few times and maxed out particular skills).

I don't regret playing through it early on and I'm definitely looking forward to playing the DC over the coming winter. Unlike most games it's not really possible to see everything on the first go around.

Yeah as you said I found Hollywood goes pretty quickly since its more condensed, much less back and forth. Bugs aside, I enjoyed the game overall though I found the combat was a bit uninspired and imbalanced. ARs were just too good but I guess to be fair they are a superior all purpose weapon. Would've been nice if there was some systems in place to incentivize other weapon use.

Anyways I probably won't bother with a replay, it was a solid game but nothing worth revisiting.

The content in the game is fine for the moment, they could stand to optimize the game because it runs like absolute shit on great hardware.

I feel bad for Phil Spencer because he genuinely seems to have some introspection and really wants to undo most of the bullshit but hes stuck with many permanent aspects of the console. The PS4 is so far ahead now that they will need to aggressively discount the XB1 at every opportunity. They should be first to $299.00, make money on the software. It's not like Microsoft doesn't have the pockets for it.

I don't know anything about this side of the industry so I'll just nod my head and wait for the results. I will say that voiced content can add a lot to a game but that few have used it effectively. It feels more like advertising much of the time, holy shit Kevin Spacey in Call of Duty buy our game!

Anyone else just get an email for Amazon "Prime Now"? 2 hour delivery on items with a 20$ off coupon. Going to try it out.....(Appears Minneapolis just joined the fun, but other cities have been available for a while)

Is that the one where amazon hires random drivers to deliver it? Kind of like Uber. It's an interesting approach. A buddy of mine did Uber on the weekends for awhile to make extra pocket money but after we did the math on depreciation of his car he was barely making $12 an hour. Better than nothing I guess but I'd rather make websites and dumb phone apps for companies in my free time, more lucrative.

From the consumer perspective Amazon Now is a win win though.

I'm just tired of hearing Daniel Craig cry over how hard it is to earn his fat pay checks. He goes back and forth on whether he even wants the role. He'll pay it some lip service then go ahead and say the opposite later. He just doesn't seem to appreciate how lucky he is. Undoubtedly a great actor and I think a fine Bond but make up your mind. Skyfall was balls but that wasn't his fault.

Bethesda said something very similar before they screwed over Human Head Studios on Prey 2. This sounds very much like internal politics and someone at corporate trying to "send a message" to the developers.

How is canceling a piece of shit game "screwing over". Bethesda would be one of the last places to NOT want a return on their investment.
If they do cancel projects then it must really be massively shitty. If the developer can't do a better job then you cut the fuckers loose. Good riddance. Simple as that.

Yeah I have to agree with this. Bethesda has released some turds over the years so for them to cancel something to me the quality is truly awful.

Unacceptable I demand a financial accounting of this project and formally request the board of directors meet to discuss it on IRC tonight in #cheetos. I made a foolish preorder and I am owed transparency. I have evidence that Todd Howard has misused consumer funds to take a pay check and even gave his wife some of his own money!!! The evidence is posted on my blog, the source is anonymous but totally trust me. I want to know what every employee did and a copy of the books post haste

You can't handle the truth!

Agreed. No Man's Sky has already demonstrated way more to do, they've been making new gameplay demo videos for awhile now. I think some people are just holding onto the old refrain because they haven't been following it.

Actually it looks like you have as much room as you did in Battlefield maps

I'm not seeing that from my perspective. Not even close to BF2 or BF3. BF4 has smaller flight ceilings and the maps are a bit smaller but still has more playable space than what was shown in that limited video. Whether this is true of all maps, who knows.

It makes sense for smaller engagements of course. Whether people want smaller engagements is the real question. I suspect its just a console limitation, BF4 was really pushing limits and had a lot more optimization work done on it.
