The Borderlands bundle is just a free weekend. Microsoft started doing them a la Steam awhile ago.

Love to play Battlefield but I'm not about to supplant my decision to never use Origin, "it's really not that bad a platform" bleating not withstanding.

They changed up the UI and friends stuff, its lacking some of the more tertiary features of Steam but overall its much better now. BF1 is super fun.

"Battery life also tends to be on the high side." Ha ha, ha ha, ha ha ha ha. LOL! ROFL!
On my Wii, that I barely used, I was constantly replacing the batteries. So much so that I got rechargeable batteries that I was constantly charging and changing half way through a gaming session. This combined with another person talking about always having to have the tablet of the WiiU plugged in makes me think this will be as much of a disaster in design.

The Wii U tablet was a disaster but this uses a custom Nvidia SoC derived from the Tegra line so battery life should be similar to the Shield K1 tablet which is around 5-6 hours. More than enough for handheld use IMO.

The dock doesn't have to have a processor/GPU built in it. If.... big IF here but IF Nintendo was smart the whole console is the tablet itself. When its un-docked it goes into a slower speed state to conserve battery consumption.

Definitely possible but I don't know, it seems too large and bulky to just be a dock alone. That, the detail/framerate differences when undocked and the "external upgrade box" that Nintendo patented in the summmer are why I'm speculating on it.

And Nintendo's first party games are generally pretty good..... there isn't enough content for a gamer who grew up with Nintendo to keep going back for 1 or 2 games.

Sure there will be. They are effectively merging the 3DS and Wii U lines. This will mean more content and opens up stuff like Pokemon to the living room space. It is a really big deal in terms of their ability to iterate on content and will stop this split focus problem they've been having. It will also make it easier on third parties to do cut down games on their platform since many are already dipping their feet into mobile and reduce the pressure to compete with PC/PS4/etc at the high end.

This lets them keep the mobile crowd, however large or small it is and still retain some relevance in the living room. It's a really smart bet and they will get a lot of mobile ports for the touchscreen crowd to boot. They can also produce content for their platform and backport to other mobile devices.

Advertising a new console launch with old games?

But look, it's got Zelda, too!

Yep, what's the issue? It hasn't been released yet and people want it.

Zelda looked like it ran at about 12fps undocked so clearly the dock has some sort of processor/GPU built in.

Interesting concept but I need more info to make up my mind.

Star Trek Bridge Crew.. I would love to play that, but there is no way in hell I'm spending the money for a VR headset.

VR is legit, I've had a blast messing around with it. It's very much in the early 3D console stage of tech but it's no joke. All of the people I see writing it off as a gimmick have clearly not messed with the Rift or a Vive.

Anyways nothing wrong with experiences specifically for VR, there are a fair number of early adopters. The pricing will get there in a few years for everyone else. It will never replace screen gaming, only AR tech has that potential IMO but its a great supplement and very neat for porn video applications too.

You keep talking about being done with this website and this topic yet you keep popping up again. Yeah I'm sure you had a big diatribe written that included the word hate a bunch of times and talked about feelings and how other people just won't listen to you. Already heard it, already debunked it and not impressed.

Sean Murray lied a bunch of times and sold people a false bill of goods with his crappy game, people don't have to be nice to him about it. You can be nice to him if you want but don't expect anyone else to give a shit. People are allowed to be upset with him and call out bad behavior, that's the way it should be. End of story.

Your reply comes off as extremely childish and honestly I debated whether to even waste the time. Your mind is set, nothing, not Murray apologizing, not Sony refunding money, not the fucking Second Coming of Christ will change it. If refunds and apologies were made, you'd say they weren't enough or that it was too late or that they should have known. So whatever. One thing that I'll make very clear to you so you won't misunderstand - I wasn't in this to 'win'. I'm not 12, I don't have discussions and debates with people in order to best them. How fucking childish can you be? You threw it out as if I was going to be hurt, 'I'd lost the fight a long time ago'. I wasn't fighting to begin with, you jerk. I just want to shake the anger and stupid out of you, don't you understand?! That's why I'm not wasting any more time with you. I've got better things to do with my time then constantly repeat things because you can't be arsed to actually see what I'm saying.

This place is filled with hate, everyone's itching for a fight at the drop of a fucking hat. Much more than normal. I'm tired of having to explain myself because I don't follow your sheep mentality and yet it's ignored, as you did- constantly. It's sad, really. I love this place. So many other places one can go and yet I stayed here. But interacting with the lot of you isn't fun anymore when you refuse to see anything but what you want to see.

My response was totally on point which is why you're dissembling. You're the one calling people names because they had the nerve to say something about getting ripped off and disagreed with you. It's fine to feel strongly about something but attempting to jam it down everyones throats isn't cool so don't expect people to coddle that behavior. If this place is so bad then by all means, put your money where your mouth is. I think we both know its pretty decent and that you're not going anywhere, that's idle threats.

Take a fucking pill and chill out, as Prez said Sean Murray pissed all over gamers and got called out on it. That's the way its supposed to be.

Did they not do that exact thing even BEFORE release? Or because it wasn't good enough for you (as in everyone here with the pitchforks and torches)? They totally redid a large part of the story and path and they said why AND they said what they were going to do going forward to enhance the game. Oh, but you're not talking about the release, no. You're talking about the 'lies' told for months before hand, yes?

If you're talking about the day 1 patch they dropped then that's blatant apologism on your part. I'm not going to give them credit for actually patching the game into a playable state on release hahaha. If by redid you mean actually added the story LOL. Pre-patch copies were like a fucking tech demo, that's a bottom barrel argument. It also has nothing to do with the lies told and lack of any communication post release. He falsely advertised the game, of course people are upset. They thought they were buying one thing and he delivered another. Its really simple to understand. People got mad at Ubisoft, Peter Molyneux and many other examples for the exact same thing.

I'll certainly remember that...believe me...

How ominous. You do that and add some ellipsis too. Having opinions is what you're entitled to, having them respected is entirely based on their content.

My opinion doesn't deserve special consideration? I'm not looking for a medal, I just want you to open your eyes and see what I do. But it's hard to see things with the flames of hate flashing in-front of everything, eh?

Flames of hate, haha. Factually labeling someone who lied continually a liar and saying that their product sucks when it does is FLAMES OF HATE. People are bitching online, no one egged his house or kicked his dog. You're the one all worked up over this, grasping at straws and trying desperately to save face over a silly argument you lost a long time ago. It's a shitty half finished game and Sean Murray lied a lot, deal with it. He traded reputation for a sack of money.

So what if he did, Verno? What the fuck then? Does it change a single fucking thing in your mind? No. Would you believe a word he said if he did apologize and explain what happened? No. So why do it? I've been on hre for two days just trying to make you see that he's a human being and I've got fuck all for my efforts. Don't act like him saying anything would change anyone's mind, most of all yours...

The customers he ripped off are human beings too. I don't see him writing apologies and making good on his promises. I don't see him giving the money back or making his game what he said it would be. Oh suddenly everyone else is just being too angry at him and he can't blamed for even a lack of apology. Everyone else is to blame for his decisions, his promises and his product, very convenient. Heck we're responsible for his feelings too. Funny how your consideration only extends to where its convenient to your argument. Have a nice fuckin vacation!

All of you are sheep. It's popular to shit on another human being for making mistakes so everyone piles on, regardless of whether there's any actual truth to any of it! I don't give a fuck about anything regarding Murray. But you all keep thinking I'm his personal side bitch...or whatever it is you think. I bought NMS just like the rest of you and I'm just as fucking disappointed as all of you. My opinion isn't the popular one but it deserves just the same amount of respect. But you all just continue to seethe under the surface over nothing. I'm done with this subject and Blue's for the foreseeable future.

I don't know, you're the one ignoring the facts here so I wouldn't go throwing that sheep label around before you take a look in the mirror. Sean Murray didn't just make a mistake, that's a blatant misrepresentation of what actually occurred especially in light of their company's failure to own the issues and lay out plans to address it. Opinions are not inherently worthy of respect, I don't know why you think your opinion deserves special consideration. Sean Murray made a big pile of money and a lot of people feel ripped off, he also won't address their concerns. Of course they're upset and its perfectly normal. People threatening to kill his cat? Not ok. People calling him a lying dick who won't face the music? Fine. When I take someones money at work I damned well better do a good job or I hear about it. Sean Murray deserves no better.

Threatening to quit the website over people calling bullshit on your weird opinion about No Man's Sky is pretty childish but whatever, its your life /shrug

Give the last word stuff a rest Rigs, you were being ridiculous and everyone else pretty much nailed it here. I have no idea why you refuse to see reason or want to believe so badly in someone who clearly screwed over a lot of people but its beyond obstinate at this point. Sean Murray is a lying sack of doodoo and it's not worth getting personal over.

Let him own up to his misdeeds and make right by his customers then we'll talk about it.

This is the key difference to me. Over-promising, being too optimistic, development path now working out, components having to be moved to future DLC or sequels, all this can be understood as issues encountered during game development.

It's the post-sale behavior that's putting it into different territory. If someone sells you something that isn't close to what's advertised, and they won't take your calls afterward? And after all the complaints come in they don't change the marketing? That's scamming.

If they were serious about adding these missing features down the road they would say so for damage controls sake. Silence is literally costing them money with all the refunds going on, not to mention the damage to both personal and brand reputation. That they continue on this path despite all that tells you all you need to know about their intentions.

Yeah we're in complete agreement here. I can see some of the features being taken out. The complete list is kind of mind boggling so I struggle with giving him the benefit of the doubt on the whole thing. More importantly though they've just disappeared and left their customers holding the bag. The poor handling is what takes it from unfortunate into pissed off consumer territory.

The sheer number of promised features that are completely missing makes this feel like it's a Molyneux game or something. I even dare draw comparisons to Battlecruiser 3000AD.

When Frontier announced ED would no longer have an online mode shortly before launch, that was a fuckup. But they did set the record straight before release. Hello Games was completely mute about all the stuff missing and let it go to sale. It's still being advertised with those missing features. The steam page trailer shows a bunch of things not in the game. There's no information showing these to be future updates, no roadmap. The goods simply don't match the bill of sale and they knew it. That's a scam.

Exactly. This isn't a case of miscommunication or a developer over-promising while having the best intentions. There was no way a 15 man team had some of these promises in the pipeline. People should have been less gullible but the trailers and curated preview media were all tailored to make it seem like it was going as planned. Most of that stuff was a crock too of course.

Instead of actually addressing these things like other companies they're just radio silent. What a shitty thing to do, the least they can do is provide some reassurance that they will patch the game into something decent. I don't blame Sony for throwing them under the bus after release, I remember the interview where Murray said he picked the $60 price point because the game provided such good value. The nerve of that fuckin guy LOL. Even Yoshida was shocked at the difference from the slices they were sent and the released game. Hello Games fooled everyone. Oh well I hope people learned their lesson this time about preordering games from a developer with no real track record to speak of.

Exactly. I knew this would be a ridiculous waste of time too. Sure, you can iterate over a list of assets and put things together to make them look slightly different, but without a huge swath of items to choose from, you're extremely limited in what you can do.

Until we come up with some kind of artificial intelligence routines that create assets for us, based on a set of criteria and telling the computer what kinds of traits a lifeform has and what kinds of traits a structure has, a planet, a vehicle, etc., then allowing the computer to calculate all these things and randomly iterate assets from the ground up, there is no way everything will be 100% random. Minecraft managed to create something compelling because it didn't focus on lots of different kinds of creatures in the world. It was the world that was calculated, and that's a whole lot more easy to do since you don't really need a team of artists in charge of creating things for that.

Yep. They could've delivered on that today in a reasonable manner, they just would've needed a much larger team. You're right that you can't have true randomness without some sort of AI driven procedural generation with seeding but they didn't really need that to make most players happy. Really what people care about is "Am I seeing the same stuff over and over?" and the answer with NMS was unfortunately a resounding yes. If they had double or triple the assets they could've delivered a reasonable variety and satisfied most people. People can deal with some duplication of assets (every open world game ever) but NMS was too much of a repeater offender in this regard. It needed a lot more variety and that combined with the shallow gameplay systems killed it for many people from what I've read of others accounts.
