Where you live (or were raised) has alot to do with it. It's no secret that college sports isn't a big deal in the NY area (I lived there for 24 yrs) but once you leave and go to say NC (where I am now) it takes a whole new meaning.

I watch the tournament for the little school since it's always fun to root for the little guy against the big dog.

All it does is highlight how much of a minority the hardcore PC gamer (the ones that come to this site) is.

This petition (as the other one) gets completely invalidated in IW's eyes when they see the game still made number 1 on Steam. Then add to that the little screenshot of the anti-MW2 group on Steam actually playing MW2

But you guys keep on fighting the good fight. It makes for good theater.

They are in the process of back converting all their games to 64 bit. In fact I think the current free rotation are all 64 bit now.

I sure as hell don't appreciate it and I don't have to accept it

Maybe so, but you do have to move on from it. Because it's not going to change, now or in the forseeable future. I'm a PC gamer, but I'm not blind to the reality and the reality is that a developer makes a ton more money on a console than they do on a PC. Bitching and whining (which I see every time a news item like this pops up on this site) isn't going to change anything. I'm surprised people post as if it's some great tragedy the PC doesn't get as much exclusives, like this is 1995 or something.

I can see why console players think of PC players as elitist. We have this idea that we should get every game under the sun because it used to be that way once upon a time. It's not that way anymore.

I'm not really sure how you expect people to react. If your favorite series gets dumbed down, should you be happy because the publisher is making more money..? As gamers, we don't really care about profits, we care about quality. We are fully aware of why games get dumbed down but that doesn't mean we have to like it.

My point though is that a previous poster mentioned that they want games that are developed specifically for the PC and outside of some exceptions, that doesn't happen anymore and hasn't happened for awhile. Did people care when BF:Bad company was released for consoles only? Wasn't that game part of the series?

To me BF1943 should be treated the same way as if it was a console only title (BF:Bad Company) vs. a sequel to BF2.

MacD, we don't want it two ways, that's the thing. Many here at bluesnews don't care for console ports even if they are given some PC love.

I'll try to summarize the sentiment here..

We PC gamers want a Battlefield game that has development targeted for the PC platform, like BF1942/BF Vietnam/BF2 were. DICE isn't taking PC gamers seriously, still despite these promises. Sure they want to develop the PC version beyond the console editions but still the game itself comes across as a simple console game for 12 year olds.

Many PC gamers use PC's because we don't like the consoles for many reasons, like how the games are simplified and features removed so that they are accessible to the 'masses.'

We find casual and accessible games insulting to our tastes, especially when a studio which made a legendary game like BF1942 to take a 180 degree turn and make games like BF Heroes, 1943 and to a lesser degree, BF:Bad Company. They've given their fans the finger.

What fantasy world do you live in? What's amazing about alot of people on this forum is you guys don't live in reality. This is about business. If Dice (and EA) are going to make a load of money selling of dumbed down version of BF to consoles, what do you expect they will do? Why do you guys get so offended? You are not the premier platform for games (as far as $$ goes). Haven't been for awhile.

The fact that they are dedicating resources to make a 'true PC' version should at least count for something.

Actually, if you bought for a whole year it would be $60, which breaks down to 5 bucks a month.

It's a good deal if you like checking out different stuff without buying it.

Gold membership is basically access to Gametap's entire catalog through it's player for 10 bucks a month. They occasionally rotate their gold games into the free service for a week (as in Overlord's case).

You don't have to pay for anything to access Gametap's free games. Perhaps you didn't follow instructions or read it correctly.

I agree with you 100%. Gametap probably doesn't make as much money as it could because it's really not marketed all that well. That and alot of PC gamers (especially those that frequent this site) can't stand paying a subscription fee for anything, whether it be Gametap, WoW, etc.

There is alot more potential there, like having newer games hit the service. Gametap then would be like the PC version of something like Gamefly.

I like the idea of Gametap, been subscribed since it launched and it's come a LONG way. As mentioned above, there are alot of games in the service that I would have never played otherwise.

Funny thing is, Gametap recently announced a partnership with THQ which will INCLUDES Titan Quest to the service, as well as stuff like Warhammer 40k.

Be interesting to see how it turns out. It's a great service for what it is and for 60 bucks a year, it's hard to say it's overpriced.

I dunno, I wouldn't characterize games such as Beyond Good and Evil, Baldurs Gate 1 and 2, Far Cry, Civ IV, Sacred, Planetscape Torment, plus a bunch of other stuff as 'games that just arent that good'

You shouldn't comment on things you know nothing about.

Again, why Gametap gets compared to Steam makes no sense. Gametap is NOT a digital distribution service. It's a subscription service that allow you access to full versions of games indefinetly until you cancel the subscription. Yes, it doesn't support mods but it's not targeting the hardcore gamer (reason it gets no love on this website), it's targeting the casual player that has no interest in mods, just simply wants to play the game.

If you want a game and knowing you are going to mod it later, buy it from steam/retail/etc.

Baldur's Gate (or Baldur's Gate 2 for that matter) were never removed from the service. There were a number of titles that were though (some EA stuff like Ultima for example). The bitching was due to them just taking it away without telling the subscribers (which they say will not happen again).

It's a nice service and for only 10 bucks, I don't see how people don't see it as a bargin. Yea, you don't 'technically' own the game because once you stop subscribing to Gametap, there go the games but again for the price to play upwards of almost 1000 title spanning multiple platforms, I think it's a good deal. They've made alot of older titles work with Windows XP and some are just classics.

Deus Ex
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2
Icewind Dale 1 and 2
Planetscape Torment
Beyond Good and Evil
Civilization IV
Pirates
Alpha Centauri
Far Cry

It aint Steam, but I don't think that's what it's trying to be. It's a subscription service.
