Also. Welcome to the recession. Meanwhile U.S.Immigration allows massive influx of Indian workers to replace useless American ones (in the eyes of those in power we are destined for meanial jobs whilst the high tech/meaningful jobs go to immgirants.

Welcome to the new world order.

Why bother with domestic when Imports are better?

I remember playtesting this one vest awhile back, it had air pockets that when you get shot at, the air pockets expand to simulate hits. It was ok when you were just being shot at, but when a explosion occurs, it just spazes out and really felt weird...

I like the idea of feeling heat and cold, but I dont think i would want my arm to jump or go limp and drop my awesome G9 mouse on the tile floor...

Thanks guys, Turning off AA did the trick. odd they didn't make it a pulldown menu so you can tone it down instead of having it at either super high laggy AA or no AA.

It dont matter anyway, playing in 1680x1050 res works just as good as having AA on...

It actually looks more like Solidshield - same proteciton that was on the witcher, except with activation..

I find the demo runs laggy as hell, on a system that was playing crysis at 40fps and can play homm5 flawlessley, is rediculous. For now Im thinking the demo's stupid copy protection is lagging my computer. Regardless, I had such high hopes for this game, but the lag issue makes it unplayable, and therefore unbuyable.

EDIT: the demo IS protected, i am still thinking solidshield, but the demo is super laggy. The protection is just humping my CPU like a neutered lapdog. If the retail is like this, I think i'll wait for it to be in the local bargain bin.

Maybee it would help if publishers wouldn't make their games out of print as soon as they hit $20 bucks price tag?

As it is its hard to get older games anywhere but secondary...

too bad gamestop/ebgames are a bunch of monkeys over there...

I had farcry 2 ordered, with that free shipping deal, and they canned it. I asked why? some guy John from up-my-ass management claim I did it..

[SARCASM]Ok, so if its a cancel from my account, I guess I should cancel my account then, since its been hacked right? [/Sarcasm]

Well then, I had him cancel the account and ALL my preorders for this year and next year. Their crappy shipping service delivers them a day after the store gets it anyway, so I might as well buy it in the store...

Gamestop can eat shit and die.

I think it's stupid for EA to mess with the secondhand market, especially when the games they make go out of print and no one sells them except the second hand market.

Wouldn't it suck if EA had DRM all over syndicate, dungeon keeper American Mcgee's Alice and Undying? EA isn't selling old games like those anymore, you're lucky if you can buy it sealed.. With DRM on it, even if you do manage to buy a opened copy, you cant run it..

Actually, the article clearly states that they have a fully functional PC build of the game. I know this is possible because we have a fully functional PC build of the console game being made where I work. This helps with testing because you don't need a dev kit to test non-platform specific bugs.

It depends on the game, company, workflow obviously. But what you *don't* have is a bunch of PCs, each with one part of the console. As far as I've seen (which is a limited data set of a couple of companies that I have friends in or what I've read on various gamedev sites) the more common method is just deploying out onto a devkit.

Doesn't MS offer some sort of break on devkit 360s, anyway?

[RUMORS] - I heard that bill gates only gives 1 devbox for every developer. I also heard on forums that its 10k for those boxes... [/RUMORS] I dunno if its true but, if you assume it is -

One devbox to develop the whole game on is stupid. Could you imagine EA games with one devbox and like 20 different teams fighting over use of it? They sure as hell don't use XNA Game studio express to make Final fantasy 13 from scratch either, they might use something like XNA non-homebrew edition or whatever its called now... Of course they would have more than one devbox, but how many of them do they get? How many of them is ea gonna buy? You buy 10 devboxes, its gonna cost them 100,000... But if ea buys 10 of those video cards that are on the xbox, at let's say 300 bux each... Thats 3,000 they spend, and all their grafix peeps in that team can test their cutscene files, their wireframes, their textures and their other crap without having to grab the devbox every time.

Pieces make more sense simply because bigger developers like square have more than one person doing their share of the game, after all those credits are long for a reason...

Could you imagine if they had one devbox they are sharing around the office, and whenever the audio guy makes a gunshot, in order to hear how that would sound coming from the xbox's soundboard, he would have to compile all of that, walk over to whoever got the current devbox, upload to it and hit play. If he don't like it, hes gonna have to do it all over again? He's going to be hogging the entire team's devbox every time he does something. It's simply more efficient to have his computer get the sound card alone so he can just hit play and listen to it from his sounds directory on his comp and edit them whenever he don't like it. The audio guy isn't gonna care if his crap works with the video card on the xbox either. All hes concerned with is how its gonna sound through the xbox's soundcard. Would it make sense to give him a whole devbox, or just the board off the card to plug into his computer that has a ton of sound files so he can just hit play on them and listen...

Likewise, the grafix designer don't care about how his cutscenes is gonna work on the soundcard, that's the audio guy's job... Are you gonna buy a expensive devbox for him? Or do you get the video card alone and have him shove that in his comp so he can run his shit on there.

Games get developed in pieces and compiled together. The devbox's sole purpose is to compile all the pieces of crap together and do a first test run. If it works good, its going to master burn and then run on a consumer's console. You deploy the game out onto a devbox at the end, as that has a built in c++ compiler. Before that, it's all computers baby.

PC game companies do this too, their difference is they have to deal with a bunch of other hardware configurations and setups. Microsoft doesn't sell them a whole development kit that has the software, hardware and devbox needed to dev the game on one console... They have to make sure their stuff works on the geforce 7's, the 8's, the 9's and those 280's on like how many different driver revisions? Then deal with the entire 32 vs 64bit issue, the via vs nforce chipset, amd vs intel, onboard vs soundblaster... No wonder why pc games get the console games last, devs would have to redo the technical side of the game and compatibility issues, while preserving the core of the game, so it plays the way they envision it...

With that said, who's to say that rather than square compiling it on a box, they just compile it on the pc itself and get it working there... It wouldn't take that long to compile it and see how it runs on the pc. But then they find out it only works at certain hardware configurations and it would take too much dev time to redo the game so its more compatible with everyone else's comp...

Heh, anyhow... I'm tired of typing

Is Nzone sooo stupid that they think that games are developed on xboxes? How would anyone type code with that stupid controller anyway?

Every game out there from the beginning of time is developed, compiled, tested and master copy burnt on computers... Yes this is going to you console fanboys, all those stupid console exclusive titles had their day on the pc before release...

I'm preety sure that some testing goes on in the PC stage - devs probably have a computer that microsoft gave them that has xbox hardware and a xbox sdk with xbox code that can simulate certain pieces on the real xbox.
For instance, the coder has a comp that has the xbox sdk runing and xbox's cpu on it, so he can make sure his compiled code can run on the xbox without crashing it. Audio guy has a pc with xbox's soundboard so he can make sure his levels and audio recordings are in the right codec and recorded so it sounds just perfect on the xbox's soundcard... The grafix designer probably has a pc with the vid card that's on the xbox and the sdk to handle grafix so he can see how his models/textures/etc will look on a xbox in comparison to his badass nvidia quadro...

The only real development phase that consoles are ever bothered with is playtesting their alpha, beta, and master disc before going to the pressers, just to make sure the SDK and dev testing stuff on the pc didn't miss any bugs...

If it's anything as frantic, scary and fun as aliens vs predator 1 was, with today's grafix and technology, it's gonna be an awesome game
