Pretty much confirms what most have been saying about the underlying story which makes it all the more interesting.

I'm still going to pick it up in spite of the beta issues.

The devs were too lazy to figure out how to balance the Heavy Flamer so they just removed one of the most iconic weapons from the game.

Could be wrong but I think it's still in the single player campaign.

Well, just to clarify, did you actually cancel you pre-order, or not? I thought you said earlier you did cancel.

Woops, kind of scrambled some words there. I did cancel my pre-order because I wasn't sure if they'd be able or willing to fix the issues experienced in the beta and I didn't want to get caught up in those shenanigans.

That said, if they're doing work and have already addressed the performance and technical issues then I have no issue backing this game with a purchase on release.

After the TB beta "first look" this is damage control, nothing more. And don't take this the wrong way, damage control is good, when it leads to a fixed and fun game.

But the beta was.. well, PS1 era gameplay with stunning environment graphics. They nailed the spacehulk look so much that I wish they'd remove the stupid tids and just let us walk through it in VR (funnily enough, the same thing I think when I think about Aliens Isolation.

I watched the TB beta impression and I was just not very impressed with his attitude towards the game and I'm someone who often searches for his impressions before a purchase.

The entire video was him whining about technical issues and I'd even go so far as to say he never had any intention of giving it a fair shake. That's not say he didn't have fair points but he acts as if this is what gave him cancer.

Meanwhile, you look at ARCH and Chapter Master Valrek and they were able to both be critical while also showcasing the product to give a much better impression of the title whereas TB is crying about how there's an option to use a panel to operate the door and how he isn't playing in god-mode.

The game is far from perfect but I would absolutely advise everyone to watch more than TB's video if you want any kind of gameplay impression.

I read some beta player reviews, apparently there (currently) is no randomization in the spawns, so after you play a level a few times, you can theoretically memorize most or all of the attack/spawn sequences.

Can that be fixed? Yeah, theoretically.

It's like $27.29 on GMG, with the above and Wallshadows' account, it seems like there is the potential to back yet another shitty Warhammer 40k game that never gets patched up to a playable state for a year, but it's not that much money... hrm.

It's really not as bad as I make it out to be. If we are to believe them then most of the technical issues have either been or will shortly become addressed which were a larger part of the concerns voiced by those who participated. The sound design would be next on my list because it doesn't provide an accurate or proper representation for much of the Space Hulk experience. The ambient sound is nice when you can hear the hull twist and clank though.

It'll be a linear experience to be sure but that's not to say you're in a vapid environment and if you're in it for the campaign then it's a little more forgivable since most likely won't play it enough to memorize the scripted events and patterns. Exploring and soaking in the amount of detail put in to the Space Hulk should win them some kind of reward though because they've nailed it which gives me reason to believe Streum On Studio wants to make a good game in spite of these short commings.

I'm still backing it simply because of the price and every thing they improve between now and the new release date is a great bonus.

News Comments > Space Hulk Deathwing Delayed Until Next Week
6. Re: Space Hulk Deathwing Delayed Until Next Week Dec 7, 2016, 13:12 Wallshadows

I pre-ordered and got in to the weeekend closed beta. Lets just say that after it was done I cancelled my preorder by not going over the two hours Steam allows in order to do so. Seeing the amount of work they had cut out for them and not being sure as to whether or not they'd use the beta for beta purposes or as a promotional tool left me in a position to cover my ass 'just in case'.

That may seem alarming to some who have been interested in this game but it's not entirely bleak in spite of the laundry list below.

First, the performance was all over the place regardless of settings which is unusual for an Unreal engine which is generally friendly across a broad spectrum of hardware. You especially noticed the drops and stuttering around nests where you're literally neck-high in dead Tyranids who continuously spawn until you meet your objective.

Second, there were frequently random input issues with your keyboard. You would be able to move but every other action was as if all your bindings ceased to be. In a horde-based title which is incredibly dependent on team-work, it's entirely possible that you'll be wiped out if your Apothecary goes unbound from his keys.

Third, there were apparently a lot of connection issues but me and my friend never experienced them so this could go either way.

Fourth, the action UI is what you would expect from a PS1 FPS. It's absolutely awful.

Fifth, the sounds were underwhelming for the most part. Nothing really gave a solid amount of 'oomph' or feedback from contact. Weapons sound uninspiring, your melee feels and sounds like you're using a nerf weapons and your Terminator armor lacks the monstrous appeal it would otherwise have while charging in to combat or simply moving.

Sixth, there's no AI director like L4D. Every thing is scripted so the replayability takes a hit when you know certain areas and events trigger mobs in a scripted pattern.

Seventh, the character progress is really wonky and feels like an afterthought.

Eighth, Incoming and outgoing damage balance in general needs to be addressed. The fact that your Bolter doesn't turn Hybrids in to clouds of red dust on impact is a little annoying and it sort of trickles up from there but I understand this is likely due to gameplay. Your Terminators feel like a wonky hybrid of Space Hulk one-hit rolls and 40K god-like tanks because of this too.

All that being said we still had a lot of fun when it worked and the latest campaign trailer and decision to push the title back a little to iron out additional issues gives me a positive impression that they care about their product even though it likely won't be winning any GotY awards. It should definitely win awards for level design though. Inside the Space Hulk is full of absolutely phenomenal attention to detail and easter eggs. You can tell the developers are knowledgeable in this area.

I'm still buying it and if I get 15 hours out of the game then I'd call that $40 well spent.

I started playing Diablo 2 again recently, and no it does NOT look like shit. It actually looks pretty damn good. WAY better than Diablo 3. D3 just looks....off.

It looks better as far as atmosphere and design are concerned but it has not aged well from a technical point of view. Either you play it at 800x600 "fullscreen" and count pixels or you run it in windowed mode which looks nice but you almost need to squint while not off screening your mouse. If the unofficial 1080p patch makes it look like it does when in windowed mode but in fullscreen then that'd be pretty nice but it's an automatic ban if you go online which is the only way I've ever played it.

One thing I've always liked though were mob death animations. They were gruesomely detailed and very satisfying. Another is the actual use of lighting.

I found out that I can still enjoy Diablo 2 even though it looks like shit but holy fuck the servers are garbage. The problem is is that the problems I'm seeing now on the new ladder are the same I've seen over ten years ago on USeast Classic so it's not like you can even make a fun conspiracy and say they're kneecapping the D2 servers out of spite.

Temporary connection ban to the realm, failed to join game, high latency, spells misfiring and doors being assholes to name a few. It's almost like PoE before lock step was introduced but with shitty servers.

They are overpriced IMO but for this iteration of cards and price points the 1060 is the better card as it runs 10-15 degrees cooler on average and sips the same amount of power. The only upside to the 480 at this point is you can use it in SLI where you can't with the 1060 and that's really not a concern of mine. And as for the price being "a bit more" the price between the cheapest 1060 and 1070 at Canada Computers at the moment is $155 dollars with most cards seeing a difference of $200 plus. That's a pretty substantial "bit more" for an extra 2 gigs of memory and what amounts to about an overall 25% improvement over the 1060.

Cutter, no! Don't do that! Click here instead and browse or manually check out Newegg, Direct Canada and Memory Express.

Yeah, I hope it's a thing. I'm returning my Gigabyte RX 480 as A) it's defective B) it's garbage. The thing runs at 80c under load! And Gigabyte support? Mon-Fri 9-5. Seriously? For a global multi-national company where people the world over will obviously need immediate support on their products and they're too cheap to provide it? Never bought Gigabyte before, never will again.

So after spending the weekend doing a hell of a lot more research I'm either looking at grabbing an MSI or Asus board instead, or switching gears and going with a 6G Nvidia 1060 - either EVGA, MSI, or ASUS.

If you're using the G1, it runs that hot because it has less area to dissipate heat but, that being said, 80*C is still well within tolerance especially if you're only using the default fan profiles. I can't speak for their support though other than their three year warranty is nice.

My go-to brand has always been MSI so I cannot recommend them enough. The look of their hardware is immaculate and their support is top knotch which is why I don't mind shelling out a few extra bucks. EVGA being the runner up when it comes to nVidia partners and I avoid ASUS almost entirely due to their heavy markup in spite of being quality product.

If it were my choice, I'd take the 1060 and never look back. Fortunately, my 290x is overbuilt like a brick shit house and is still chewing bubblegum so I can skip this generation.

On another note, I bought Deathwing after watching some streams by Chapter Master Valrak and it's okay. It definitely needs some work to iron out an almost game-breaking bug where you lose all keyboard input except movement at random and the sound system leaves much to be desired especially when it comes to reminding you that you're in Terminator armor to the point where power armor from Fallout 4 feels and sounds better. The UI is straight from a PS1 FPS too and the melee is as basic as it gets. Performance is only ever an issue when there's literally stacks of corpses up to your waist because we didn't realize we were near a nest so they kept spawning by the dozens.

Still fun though!

I bought the expansion DLC but then got a refund because I didn't really dig it at the time but I might just get it again since it's $10.

Aren't they planning another expansion DLC? Seems like they're pretty okay with supporting the game even if it's only community events.
