i just saw an ad for Fruit Loops pop up on blues and now i think i'm going to pick up a box at the store. i think this is the first time i've been directly influenced by an advertisement before.

Sure you weren't influenced by the fruitcake story 'cause Fruit Loops are disgusting.

i ate the whole box and got sick

I bought House of the Dying Sun the other day, haven't played it yet, didn't know it had a VR patch for it until after I owned it, nice little surprise. Definitely looking forward to that and Snuggle Truck VR. Also wanting to get over the Alien Iso VR patch to. Time.

if you end up liking it, you can get the soundtrack for free from the composer's site in flac or whatever. i haven't played the game yet but i can't get enough of the OST. sounds like was channeling bear mccreary/battlestar galactica.

i'm surprised there are so many people who want co-op. i don't even know how that would work. mine resources and build bases together? aren't there a bunch of games like this already? starmade? space engineers? empyrion?

The ships in this game are procedural. Are the weapons, armor, shields, etc, too?

i don't think they were procedural aside from color scheme and randomized stats. i haven't played since last november but at that time all the ships drew from a pool of archetypes. colors and installed mods varied, but nothing else. and as i recall the shield and armor mods had fixed stats depending on the type. i may be misunderstanding what you're asking.

but to clarify what i said, it used to be when your sentinel wanted level was high enough in space, they'd deploy a sentinel capital ship after you which had a fixed design like all their other models. after shooting it enough, it would stop returning fire, and eventually just disappear.

i think i'll have to re-install for this. i put 130 hours into it over last summer when i was traveling a lot for work, it was an easy game to pick up and play and relax with. the new story additions have my attention, and apparently space combat has been tweaked as well.

i wonder if you can still 'destroy' a capital ship and it just vanishes because they never coded a destruction sequence.

these guys were completely full of shit but i enjoyed the game and i'm also enjoying seeing it shaping up.

so apparently that 20-years-in-the-making wizardry game from a few days ago was outrageous at 40 dollars, far too much for some indie title; and this is outrageous at 30 dollars, it must be shit to cost so little. i guess the AAA industry has succeeded in properly conditioning a pliant base of sheep consumers.

it all depends on if the gameplay loop is designed independent of the microtransaction system or not. square-enix already played this hand in deus ex: mankind divided and that was still a well-balanced game.

i can't imagine this really having a huge impact if it's simply randomized gambling. seems like it will be even easier to ignore than it was in deus ex; that game just cut straight to the chase with "cash for skill points or currency". that would be an easier system to exploit by underpowering the player character.

the article does say there's an "xp boost" item but otherwise it's just designed to appeal to morons who want to set their money on fire for the thrill of opening a box.

I'm as geeked about the giant robot fight as anyone, but I still don't see how you make weapons that are powerful enough to fatally damage the other robot, and somehow keep your pilots safe?

Once Grant Imahara got involved, I figured they'd remote pilot it, but apparently not.

i was kind of interested until i read they're basically just big, expensive paintball launchers. this is just expensive nerd mechwarrior LARPing.

i don't even know if this guy falls on a political spectrum, after googling him he actually seems mentally ill.

i also generally find it kind of interesting to see people's thought processes regarding what is a 'correct' price for a videogame. in one of the hellblade: senua's sacrifice posts here people were expressing suspicion that the game can't be good, it's only 30 dollars and "it looks triple A".

Full stop. How is that even possible? Did you grow up in a cave raised by wolves?

i mostly watched the discovery channel growing up, never any syndicated tv. but even when i was a kid i thought star trek was cheesy as fuck and never actually wanted to watch it.

even after knocking out voyager and five seasons of deep space nine, i still find star trek often requires its own special kind of suspension of disbelief that can become tiring. but it's been a good enough time that i'd like to see more stories in the universe. star trek online looks to be about where and when i wish that new show was set.

Uhh wat.

i believe he is contesting there is nothing wrong with her in the sense that hoping she gets "treatment" is futile, because there is no treatment for sociopaths.

in any event, this farce played out more or less the way i expected. and while i don't like engaging in hypotheticals of this sort, lets imagine the prison sentence if this wasn't a blonde teenage girl, or if the roles of the couple were reversed.

Their is physicalness in it, depends on the scale you use. Skill, certainly at that level. It is competition by who we know are the best at something in the world. AKA they'd cream you if you challenged them.

i've heard nerds arguing about this for 20 years and it's always this same goofy argument.

i don't know why videogamers keep scrabbling after the label "sport" like some badge of legitimacy for their passtime.

according to the olympic committee, chess isn't a sport, but you can win a gold medal in speed walking. do you think chess champions feel denigrated?

but in any event, the terms "e-sport" and "cyberathlete" will never stop being funny to me. not hilarious or anything, just the kind of passing funny that a child aping a grown-up is.

i just watched a bunch of star trek for the first time recently and was thinking of giving this a try, considering the dearth of star trek video games unless you literally go back to the 90s; all the others are only available used on CD.

i also like that it's set in the future of star trek instead of further excavating the past.

downside: it's an mmo.

you donate to crowdfunding because you believe in them and their competence, not because they already have a good product. they have slightly admitted that they fucked up, and say they are still working on it. I will give them the benefit of the doubt. they will need to better convince me of their competence if I am to donate however. https://descendentstudios.com/community/topic/4731-a-quick-update/

indeed, that was why i backed overload since it was a professional team of names with experience shipping titles for both publishers and indies. and most importantly, all four of them actually worked on the descent games and are content producers. underground was 8 pricks with "director" titles and a list of completely random games they're associated with in some nebulous way; and none of them were descent.

i feel bad for anyone who gave money to the underground guys. and that "update" has the mewling, conciliatory tone of every failed kickstarter project on the decline that i've ever seen. these guys have had 2 years and over half a million dollars and are acting like its all out of their hands.

i'm surprised how much was left to happen off-screen in game of thrones last night. in one fell swoop of the space of 10 minutes of offscreen drama daenarys is stripped of all her westerosi allies and unsullied forces it took her years to acquire. i loved the truncated pace of season six but so far season 7 has just felt like dead air to me. i can only hope they're banking their screen time and budget for some shocking material later in the season but it's still irksome knowing there's only 4 episodes left this season, and 6 next year to resolve everything.

underground is actual garbage. Overload is coming along much more nicely, in less time and with half the money underground raised. the devs are active on the forums and ask people's opinions rather often. and they're actually ex-volition and parallax guys, not just dudes who bought the rights to descent name from interplay's corpse.

it occurred to me as i heard some mewling millennials debating the repeal of the ACA that a big issue with younger people is they don't really understand the fear of serious medical conditions condemning you to the absolute certaintly of bankruptcy, or the bitter reality of a long-term medical condition trapping you in a job you hate for years. they got to grow up under the protections and don't really understand what it's going to mean when they go away.

older people don't really have an excuse, though. i guess it's just that classic american cycle of eating itself, then regurgitating itself when it realizes it fucked up.
