There is an easy fix for that, though unfortunately you may not like it.

Don't play FPSs with unlocks and levels. Frankly, the genre is not suited for that. There's plenty of excellent FPSs out there that are way better than Battlefield and CoD. You just need to spend a little time finding them.

Unless, of course, you like to spend hours and hours of not-fun game time just to ungimp yourself.

i agree. everything unlocked from the get go. its just tailored/or better suited to the hardcore nuts. the fun and enjoyment is not there for the casual gamer.

That's a pretty laughable statement. CoD sells 20 million units a game these days, Battlefield 3 has already sold 8 million. The majority of those are not "Hardcore gamers". Those ARE the casual gamers and they've proven in droves that they like unlock systems.

You want to play with everything unlocked, then play on unranked servers. That's what they're there for.

As for the previous comment "There's plenty of excellent FPSs out there that are way better than Battlefield and CoD." Don't confuse YOUR OPINION of games with a definitive 'better' or 'worse'.
Doesn't have to be definitive. There's sufficient FPSs out there that are all better than Battlefield or CoD in one way or another, so basically no matter what type of FPS you like... there's a better one out there. Unless, of course, your only metric is how popular the game is. But then, I shouldn't have to tell you how stupid that would be.

And if you do want definitive, try fewer bugs (ie. higher quality programming) for one.

In fact I will go one further.. its been shit since they (EA) dissolved Westwood Studios..

Bioware will go the same way, mark my words..
Quite right. This has been EA's obvious specialty for about the last decade.

In that span they really haven't made anything on their own that's worth a crap (Battlefield series NOT excluded - every release has been a steaming pile of bug-ridden feces). And everything they've published from studios they acquired would have been better if the studio had developed it without being acquired by EA.

What's funny is the new young XBox360-generation of console gamers can't figure out why I dislike companies like EA. Maybe if they had been around to play video games when they were more about having fun than turning a quick buck...

Actually I can't remember a single GR game that was enjoyable. My friends referred to it as "that shooter where you can't jump over a small rock or curb".
Yeah, that too.

Wow. I can't believe the level of ignorance exhibited by people insisting that piracy = theft. The only kind of piracy that might qualify is the kind that happens on the high seas.

It's not even up for debate.

Non-commercial copyright infringement is a civil matter, and requires the victim to execute a lawsuit for anything to happen to the perp. Law enforcement has no jurisdiction over this kind of infringement.

Theft, on the other hand, is a criminal matter, and if you get caught law enforcement will throw your ass in jail.

These basic legal definitions more or less hold true in all countries in the world that have any laws at all about copyright infringement.

The MAFIAA-type corps are trying to change this, but they haven't got there yet, and never will as long as any sanity remains in government.

If only 50,000 people buy your game (and you don't turn a profit) it's because:
a. Your game sucks
b. Your marketing sucks
c. All of the above

It has zero to do with piracy. Even mediocre games sell 100K + units and turn a profit, all the time.

Honestly, I'd think by this point most true PC gamers would be ignoring Ubisoft entirely as they're pretty much irrelevant. I know I am. If this bit of "news" hadn't been posted here on Blues I never would have known it happened. I certainly don't care either way.

The reason you've heard nothing good about them is mostly because they released it way before they should have. Even now is probably too early. Why? Because there's not enough to do with them.

Their ultimate goal however is to have common areas in stations where players can meet each other with their avatars for trading and all the other typical down-time activities people do in MMOs.

So no, it's not surprising that they're moving foward with the new CQ.

At least they aren't whining about piracy and "lost revenue".

Don't worry, they'll get to that in a couple months when they demonstrate that for every copy sold another 10 were pirated and they're actually just getting 10% of the money they should have.

When you're a greedy fat cat, there's no such thing as enough money.

They majorly missed the boat years ago already, and with each rebalancing effort it only gets magnified (and worse). I quit just 11 months ago and the game has already changed so much I recognize barely half of the spells and talents they're discussing.

Anyway, back to my original point. What they needed to do early on was separate PvP and PvE functions. Many abilities should have one function when used against an NPC target, and a slightly different one when used against a player target. They kind of did that with CC, which is a good starting place, but it needed to be more apparent what the differences are from player to NPC targets, needed to be implemented on more abilities, and the differences needed to be more significant. That's precisely what ArenaNet did with GW and it allowed them to keep the same abilities around and keep them balanced with only minor changes. And the best part is, a PvP nerf need not affect PvE, and a PvE nerf need not affect PvP.

In a brief scan of the article, they think melee dps is fine for PvP, but too low for PvE. So they change "raid buffs" to increase melee attack power by 20%, but ranged still only 10%. Um... no one ever uses "raid buffs" for PvP?? Really? WRONG. The correct answer is to tweak some specific rogue damage talents to increase damage vs. NPCs while keeping it the same vs. players. Simple and to the point. Instead, now melee DPS will be OP in PvP and players will whine about that. Newsflash Blizzard: IT HASN'T WORKED IN 7 YEARS, AND IT STILL WON'T.

As someone else mentioned, the more they "balance" the more they normalize classes, and they're working towards making classes just copies of every other class with the only real difference being ability names.

I'm so glad I quit WoW and I have no desire to ever go back.

I will put this in numbers for you...Wow could lose 90% of subs and still be more popular than any of its competition. Now sit and think about that one...
WoW is dying, not dead. That's what people generally mean by "WoW is dead". Obviously they're not going to shut down their servers permanently overnight when they've still got over 10 mil active subs, and you're an idiot for thinking that's what anyone ever meant.

Personally, I couldn't care less. I quit WoW 9 months ago and have never missed it less.

The one thing I learned from Rift is that I hate gear-grinds. With a passion. I thought I was just tired of WoW, but turned out that wasn't the case.

All I want in an MMORPG is a quick leveling path to cap and instant access to gear with the best stats, so I can go about my business and just have fun playing through the content as I please. All things that the original GW offered, but sadly GW2 most likely won't. Of course GW had other shortcomings including one that ended up being severe enough to kill the game for me, but that's a different topic.

Edit: Well actually, my experience goes way back to when it was only a mod for UT2K4... and one of the first released versions of the mod, at that. I was one of the people rooting for them to win the mod contest at the time, and sure enough, they did!

"As always, the dialogue is gripping, hard-boiled, and frequently profane – a perfect fit for voice actor James McCaffrey, who reprises his role of Max and did a majority of the motion capturing for the character."

Fantastic. That's the one thing I really really wanted to know about Max Payne 3. I'll almost certainly buy it now.

I mean yeah, the gameplay was good but it was really all about the story... and that voice actor is perfect for the games.

The only FFs I ever managed to complete were 6 and 7. Started 5, 8, 9, 14, and a few of the older ones (1 or 2 I think). Mostly good games, just never got around to completing them. So yeah, I can understand the perspective of the people who think 7 is where it went off track... but I can't agree with it. That one is easily my favorite, and I'd buy a PS3 just to play a remake if I had to.

Really good MMO, just too repetitious for my tastes. Nevertheless, now that it's free I'll download and log in and do a few things again. And who knows.. maybe I'll spend a few bucks here and there. I have in the past, just couldn't justify the monthly sub any more.

Here is the thing. Who defines what a MMORPG acts like compared to an actionRPG? I will tell you who, the king of the hill decides! Like it or not Blizzard defines both genres. So people can cry and call it whatever they want to, but the facts remain the same--login or do not buy it. I have a feeling most of you guys will buy it even with your lips a flapping... You know why? The beta rocks!
Beta? What beta? I never got to try a beta. And guess what: I no longer care. And for the record, Blizzard doesn't define jack shit for me.

Also, you might want to clean the brown off your nose with some of your fanboi toilet paper.
