Doesn't matter what analysts say, when you are bored not having much to play on Xbox other than cross platform stuff (and hearing about Natal over and over instead of new games only makes your angrier), you will probably grab a PS3 on the next RROD. I am seeing this scenario play out with people I know who were Xbox only.

Mythic deserves credit for making the best spontaneous MMO PVP experience ever. The problem is they forgot how to do it when they got to Warhammer. Here's hoping Mythic involvement leads to the kind of PVP DAOC had.

I bought some refurb BDP-1200s for 100-200 bucks for the house. I actually have 5 Blu-ray players if you count 2 PS3s (Which I do not use for watching movies). So there is one in the bedroom too. I passed 100 blu movies long ago, but I do a lot of renting from Netflix. I can stream Netflix/Pandora on my Samsung Blu-ray players if I want too (firmware integrated awhile ago).

It's always a nice present to get the wife a favorite movie on Blu-ray. Pride and Prejudice was a big hit with the wife around here.

There's nothing to feel good about when a decent arcade game get's shot down by people. XBL will never run it now. Many PSN people probably won't buy it. The sad truth is it was a fairly decent arcade game that kind of played like Warhawk and many folks might have liked it, and now many won't even get a chance to judge for themselves. That's all the bitching achieved, denial of a game to people who might have enjoyed it.

And no, I didn't have anything to do with this project or even know the people who worked on it. I think what "fans" did to this project was very unfair. What's worse is that it's a pretty safe bet we will never, ever see a real sequal to Red Baron sim now... Who in their right mind would invest in a project that now has a reputation of rabid destructive fans? In a way I think the people who bitched about the arcade version pretty much put the last coffin nail in the full blown project they wanted and expected. Killed 2 games with 1 unfair bashing.

Wow you couldn't be farther from logic there. The whole WWI plane dog fight concept in electronic form started there. Of course it's linked. I think it's a pretty easy to bet that Damon played the Atari arcade one and drew inspiration from it. Confirmed? I don't feel like digging up that info, but that's how innovations usually happen, improving on base work from previous attempts (in most fields).

There was no omission, only a claim that the last Red Baron was Red Baron 3D (which was a revamped Red Baron 2).

Go back and play the Wii you love so much and stop pretending you know what the hell you are talking about when it comes to real games, especially ones from times before you were born and their successors.

The problem sits with people being unreasonable and whining about a sequal to an arcade game not being a sequal to a sims game. In that inane, juvenille, and unreasonable demand, they pan the arcade game for not being the sims game they wanted. How is that marketings fault?

I was 24 when it was first released (19 years ago). How old were you? The reason I asked is that I am finding people most likely bitching about it were 10 years old or under, like not even born when the game first came out. Yet they are the most vocal like you killed a family member and are completerly dumb and blind to what Red Baron ARCADE was, it's history, and where it originated. Heck even the Red Baron Wiki has errors lol. You kids crack me up.

Here's the worst part. Red Baron Arcade actually came out in 1980 and was an Atari vector graphics game, 29 years ago. Damon Slye did not make the PC version for another decade. There were probably some cartridge remakes or somewhat, I don't remember. The next place i recall seeing Red Baron ARCADE was on Sierra Network. Red Baron ARCADE was then seen on PSN. Red Baron 3D was the last traditional computer sim. It's dead. But hey let's go beat the hell out of another game because it looks like the one we wanted, but isn't. Let's go pummel that dude because he looks like someone who wronged us.

lol new meaning of nerd rage. Pretend to be there nerd rage lol... Even some poor schmo who was 10 years old when pc red baron came out, and not born when the first Atari version came out had the audacity to give it a 20 at IGN and raged like he was around to really know anything about it. SAD.

Wings of Glory was watered down somewhat but you could rip the wings off fairly easy. I liked the "Commander" games from Origin and Wings of Glory was one, just called something different. Hell it's really the only one of the two that would actually sell in todays market. I am sure flying by map with no radar would go over real well...

Ok there is a problem with this public misconception and I keep seeing it with young reviewers. Red Baron Arcade was part of the Sierra Online Network that you paid like 60 bucks a month for time to play games on their network. Red Baron was one of the big draws there and it was watered down multiplayer, mainly dog fighting. Red Baron Arcade was a sequal to that version and had nothing to do with being a full blown sim or spiritual successor to the original games. It was straight up a dog fighting game with a bunch of extras tossed in. It wasn't a sim. Yeah they could have done a few things different but it was no different than the original Sierra Network in style and scope. I don't think it was butchered, it did exactly what it set out to do and did it fairly well.

What needs to happen is have a full blown sim version now with all the bells and whistles. Heck I would love to see Wings of Glory too

If they redo X-wing and Tie Fighter I would think it would be similar to the original games.

With 500,000 writes per block and proper wear leveling logic, it's unlikely you're going to see a lot of bad sectors within the first 2 years even on a heavily used drive.

I don't agree with this on a couple points. One, I don't think it can last 500k per block in real world use. Second, that whole block is taken whenever the smallest file is written. The rapid writes of caching on a gaming computer playing WoW levels of use would rip through that pretty fast even if it were 500k. The diagrams I have seen actually only back up about 20-30% of the advertised volume with back up blocks.

The difference is not that dramatic, and new firmwares are getting better, making this difference even smaller.

The tests I have seen drop performance by 30% or more when comparing new with reasonably used (some of that is due to the logic on sector use). I agree that work on the logic behind how blocks are used and general efficiency enchancements are ongoing, and should improve on a lot of these issues. But it's still a ways off before anyone should bother buying in to SSD on a home retail level. Not only for these reasons, but for the price too. Give it a year or two and things should be a lot better.

I watched a japanese film called Vexville recently and thought it was pretty cool. The animation was semi cell shaded but more 3D. This is what I imagine Borderlands will look like. Really hope this game plays and feels like a Diablo 3D in a Wasteland universe.

Edit: You also can't help but get the feeling it will have that old west accent kind of like Firefly. I am actually looking forward to this title.

I hope you are right Surf (not saying that is your prediction, just that what you and I want is what they announce). I just dug out all my CDs of the X-Wing and Tie Figthter stuff (found my old Battlezone 2 CD also). I haven't loaded them yet. This would be pretty cool but I would hope it's not just an online affair.

This website is and has always been primarily for purple vibrator users with a section for blue vibrator users. There are a ton of blue vibrator web sites out there for e-vibrator measurements.

I have no plans to go SSD anytime soon (years). There are a lot of things that need to be refined and the problem specifically mentioned in this article (data retention) is a big one. As a sector goes bad by a life expectancy count (they all will over time) the drive opens a back up sector to replace it, and writes the data to it and the back up sector becomes the new one that is used instead of the bad one. The bad one is done, it's not used anymore. As this happens over time (year or two) your drive uses up good sectors and marks them bad. Operational speeds dramatically decrease once you have millage on the drive. Most tests are done with clean slate SSDs and that leads to peak performance numbers, but not real world long term numbers. Just too many negatives right now for SSDs.

If anyone ports L4D to PS3 it will be EA. This game is best on PC simply for the mods hitting soon. I have to give Epic credit though, there are quite a few user maps and mods available for PS3 UT3. It would be nice to see more of this in the future from all games.

@Dryden - Yes they all get a fresh start. Which is why the new IP is so important. Look at Nintendo weathering the storm all these years. The reason is primarily expected IP that always shows up. Sony stepped up this year and went nuts generating some new brands that will not leave Sony. Ones impervious to MS simply buying their way to content. Add up all the IP each system has individually, and you start to see where MS has a real problem and it's really getting obvious this year.

Not for Xbox =/ Maybe the next DLC will unlock the jets. Not really that big a deal, my plate is full. I finisher COJ yesterday and did Quantum of Solace on 007 mode today. I got atleast 10 games to go through still so probably not going to worry with this DLC.

Reeeeallllly looking forward to this title. Heroes over the pacific was so good (ps2).

To further comment on Sony's hardware strategy which I think is apparent now as far as recapturing a good portion of the "Walkman" revenue... They released PSP Go at $250... I would hope the PSP that also happens to be a phone is released at 200... I would hope someone who is actually thinking about herding consumers to that product is doing it with price structure. As a gamer I would be much more interested in a game machine that just happens to be a phone too, more than phones, that half assed play some games too. Only time will tell but I think it's a viable play for market share.

I would still be playing this from time to time if it didn't force multiplayer play in order to unlock some of the best aircraft in the game.
