Re: Op Ed May 17, 2017, 02:04 Simon Says

Ever since they took over the market and I couldn't get my hands on a game ( even boxed ) without having to install the dictatorial bloatware ( install that day 1 multi gig update or go fuck yourself, a few weeks later... update the game or go fuck yourself ), I hated the Steamy pile of shit. I still do. I couldn't buy games anymore and manually patch them when I damn well pleased and/or gamed without having to always be online ( because I couldn't ), so I didn't.

Sounds like you're in a pretty shitty situation with your internet, but maybe you don't remember starforce and securom and safedisc. DRM and online activations and 3rd party logins were becoming such a shitshow and I know many of those issues still exist, but steam at least eliminated SOME issues, namely the stupid disc not being readable. "Sorry, I'm not compatible with YOUR drive lol also, i don't like that burning software you have so I'm not going to work. Byes!" That was my primary issue.

Oh you shelf the disc? Doesn't that become unmanageable when you can't find but you want to play some specific old game? "Now where did I put Quake 4....". Have you ever moved?

It's not perfect but it's WAAY better, in my opinion. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, and i'm glad you found something that works for you.

Not sure how to take this article - "inventing" the iphone is a silly thing to say. Even sillier to argue about. It's apple's product, yes they "invented" that. They also "invented" the iphone 6.

Did they pioneer and invent every piece of technology contained in the iphone? No. Is there anything in an iphone that doesn't, didn't exist prior to the iphone's release? Really really doubt it. Did they slap it all together and call it an iphone? Yup.

This is more an argument of semantics than anything else. It's like a reddit argument between two mainstream media outlets.

No impressed with them. Purchased 2 copies of the game before the Don't Starve Together co-op thing, in order to get the co-op addon free when released so me and someone could play together.

However turned out it's only with Steam, in that we would have to install Steam, and then the game through Steam, just to play the co-op.

In all this time they haven't bothered to so much as add direct IP connections to avoid such crap yet they're now pushing out DLC. Won't ever be seeing another cent from me, no loss to them but won't be any further loss to me either.

No offense dude, but I think this is a bit silly. I personally think Klei has handled Early Access better than most. Yes, you got early access to DST (and eventually the final product) for FREE if you bought DS before a certain date. That's not good enough for you? Because... you don't like Steam? You say that they don't have direct IP as if they have done NOTHING else either, like oh I don't know, add caves?

DST is still, to this day, in early access; "Early Access" being a Steam/Valve initiative. Of course that wouldn't be available anywhere but on Steam. You didn't see that when you signed up? Is the issue that you can't wait until it comes out? You can't use Steam just until it is eventually released?

They chose to use the Early Access system to handle the beta of their product. Is that their crime, in your eye? If you want to beta it, you have to use Steam, otherwise you have to wait until it actually comes out. You want to moan about a feature they have never promised before the game comes out? Early Access probably isn't for you.

In related news, I just bought Early Access Shipwrecked, but it doesn't work with Linux... Oh well. I'll just have to steam it from Windows for now, I guess.

Does anybody else internally translate "less addictive" to "less fun"?

Maybe that's the point, it will be more "fun" but less "addictive"?

Can anybody name a game that isn't fun, but is addictive? Would that be World of Warcraft?

Do you remember when Lego meant being creative with attachable blocks?

I went to legoland recently. What I saw at the hotel was a bunch of 10 year olds pretend shooting each other with crude guns made of legos and a nightly building competition of things made by their dads, passed off as their own. At the park I saw lots of expensive licensed kits for sale and amazing models and sets made by professionals. I think this is pretty much in keeping with that. That being said, I'll probably get it when we know how they'll incorporate the 3rd movie. Free DLC? Probably not.

It was Morse. Did not need to look it up.

C'mon it's been more than 20 years now. There shouldn't need to be a spoiler tag.

I'm sure they aren't doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. Cancelling the Wii U version should have made this much obvious. They are patching the game because they still have 3 DLC packs to release. I doubt they've broken even on the base game so this DLC is their last hope. I also suppose they have an obligation to release that for the fools, err i mean folks, that bought the season pass. But besides all ten of those poor souls, nobody is going to buy that DLC they spent money to complete if they don't even at least give the impression that they addressed some of the 'concerns' reviewers have had with the game.

What makes no sense at all is why is the gov't 'protecting' corporations in such specific ways like this? Who exactly is in charge here? This should be front and center in the interests of the "limited government" party but they've had their constituents too stuck on guns and gays for the last 50 years to care enough about anything else.

Planned obsolescence is in nobody's best interest except the people who sell new crap to replace old crap that can't be fixed; and people who run landfills. Copywriting service manuals!? Insanity. Mark my words - the internet as we have known it is doomed when we allow things like this to continue.

I was really liking this "The Office" show until, in series 3, episode 10, this gut punch of misogyny irredeemably soured the series for me. It is shocking that such a talented actor would traffic in such a contemptible attitude. I had always liked the show's accurate dry depiction of office life and in this moment it's all reduced to some frat house joke making me ashamed that I ever thought it was more than that in the first place. Maybe it's a show just for the bros.

That's how silly Sessler sounds to me but who am I to fault someone for what they are offended by? (by the way, was that clip slightly more racist than I realized when I first watched it? maybe it should be altered too?)

Wow, just wow. I can't believe it but you're right, there are <500 people playing A:CM right now. I assume that must be in my region? North America? That's so sad - unfortunately they'll take it to mean that PC Gaming is dead and blame the platform and/or piracy so I can't exactly be as happy as I would like to be.

The War Z though, did anyone else notice the glitched out zombie in the trailer at the 20 second mark? Yikes! Not a good sign.

12. Re: Morning Safety Dance Feb 25, 2013, 14:32 wallace321
The same day as Sandy Hook, there was crazy guy in China who attacked a preschool. Since he didn't have access to a gun, he used a knife. 20 people injured, but no one died. Certainly we can agree that these things aren't the same and shouldn't be treated equally.

I really don't like the "we might as well ban sharp objects" argument specifically every time it gets thrown into a discussion like this.

I just wish there was some gigantic list of arguments that we can refer to. "Sorry, that has already been covered in the societally accepted GLoA article 152:A item 13 - false equivalency." Maybe we would actually get something done besides rehash the same nonsense debates ad-infinitum every time a class full of 5 year olds gets gunned down. I think sites like snopes and politifact are as close to that as we'll ever get and people even question those as being biased.

I feel like certain lobbyist groups would be out of business in one or two election cycles if we could just stop the spread of misinformation and nonsense debate points. Except that I'm sure they would pay a lot of money to have a hand in writing the list. And thus fox news was born...

The things that killers have in common with one another, it's curious that they are stuck on videogames being even partially the cause. I would like to dub this, "The Coulter Phenomenon" - people don't REALLY think these things, there are just plenty of people that will say them (true or not) to sell books, get on TV to promote their books, etc, to get rich. End of story.

Having said that, access to a gun in a moment of passion is not a good thing. Despite what the NRA would have you think, there are more girlfriend vs boyfriend, wife vs husband arguments daily than home invasions in a year; ie, guns are more likely to be used in a situation where they shouldn't be used than one where they should.

(that wasn't intended to be a factual statement, btw, to quote senator Jon Kyl. Just a common sense assumption to make a point.)

News Comments > BioShock Infinite Season Pass Announced

16. Re: BioShock Infinite Season Pass Announced Feb 21, 2013, 12:34 wallace321
Did anybody overall have any problems with the quality of any of the Fallout3 or Fallout: NV DLC? I always end up getting it and the full game in the "GotY" or "ultimate" editions for less than the cost of the original game alone. But I totally admit I eventually got it; just very cheaply so I'm not that concerned if it had been cut from the original game.

Bioshock is single player! Don't people think they'll have enough game to play when it comes out to satisfy themselves until A. it actually comes out sometime this fall, or B. until it goes on sale for more than 30% off?? What if the game sucks!?

I bet the people who pre-ordered (what is essentially a pre-order in itself) the season pass for A:CM are kicking themselves haha!

Don't care about guns. Don't own one, don't care to own one. I think both sides are mostly wrong, but the pro-gun side is probably more wrong. While I don't think outlawing guns would do anything (at least not in a single election cycle), I would love to see rednecks and their "well regulated" militias with their peashooters go toe to toe with an M1 Abrams.

As it is though, through the power of lobbyists (the NRA) we just saw a class of little kids get mowed down and nothing is going to be done to even try to keep it from happening again. I guess that's the price of living in the greatest country on earth. Frankly I'm a little desensitized to it all with the current status quo. So let's go for it. I'm for gun control, with extreme prejudice. It's win-win for entertainment. I say it's time to end the stalemate. Register yourself and your weapon with a WELL REGULATED militia or hand it over. Round up all the guns and let Billy Bob with his modified AR-15 defend his "anything goes" interpretation of the 2nd amendment against an Apache Longbow attack helicopter. Since 'compromise' doesn't seem to be in their vocabulary. At least we wouldn't be seeing little kids being sacrificed for the 2nd Amendment for a change.

And lay off videogames, NRA scumbag.

I like the modern warfare theme myself, but i meant people who think it's in bad taste to feature theaters of war where we are still actively involved and losing troops. What was that FPS that featured missions based on recent events in the news? That didn't go over well in the media.

Sure, you can choose to take out innocent, unarmed civilians in those examples but it was not the player's main objective at any point as far as I know; and it STILL causes an uproar.

It doesn't have to be a AAA title to make us look bad. They STILL bring up Super Columbine Massacre RPG in the news and how tiny was that?

i like new ideas, but this has the potential to be really damaging to our hobby and generally offensive. people don't like violent games, people don't like "modern" war games, people don't like when we can go around shooting unarmed civilians.

Not saying it's right, but the people who make the fuss about this sort of thing are the people who influence the uninformed/ignorant general public and that's when they start sticking their noses in our business. No good will come of this.
