Im betting this game is being developed by a small team, doing this during their free time just for fun, and it's probably costing 3drealms nothing. That's why it will probably never see the light of day.

That aside, Im hoping it does see the light of day, and maybe it will contain some oldschool gameplay to boot.

Shiiiiiiit I was so looking forward to this game on the PC. Now after reading that "Dissapointment of the Year" article I probably wont be getting this.

I HATED Bioshock. I felt cheated out of my money. The story might have been great and all that, but the dumbed down gameplay and consolitis of this game really ruined this game for me within the first 10 mins of playing. This game was nowhere near the greatness that is SS2. (Or even SS1 for that matter)

As for Mass Effect, from all the reviews I thought I would be getting a cool RPG game in the vein of KOTOR, but now I read about how all the RPG elements have been downgraded, and about the totally shit equipment and inventory systems and even that the items in the game are totally generic. (Compared to the cool stuff one could find and use in KOTOR)

I guess I wasn't as clear as possible when I wrote my previous post, or I chose the wrong word "optimising" isn't the right word I guess. "Optimising" suggests that in delivering drivers that push scores up in 3dmark, those same drivers will do the same in games, which would be the case ideally. However the problem is that 3dmark isnt a "real world" benchmark. It isn't even a complete game engine. Heck, at best it's a techdemo. And one that is specifically written to take advantage of the latest hardware. It's not written with a gameplay mechanic in mind.

BTW Im pretty sure an opensource API for Raytracing will emerge first on the market, waaay before Microsoft ever includes anything remotely similar in its API.

Normally that would be good advice for independent developers but clearly Take2 can afford to have a PC version and probably will just to annoy jthompson some more.
Secondly not sure how they are joined acutally but 2k & Take Two seem to some degree the same company and sort of shit on PC gamers in general. The most recent was Bioshock where there were several problems but an example of stupidity would be refusing develop Shader 2 Bioshock which would have taken At The Most, one programmer 2 weeks. According to valve 40% of their steam system uses Shader 2. So they lost up to 40% of their sales out of arrogance or some stupid deal with a video card maker to exclude Shader 2 for cash.

I don't think it really matters which as both choices speak poorly about them, if I am missing something I am sure someone will point it out.

Why PC version and not console? Well for one I dont own a console. Secondly where I come from console games cost 100$ a pop. Yes those are USD, not AUD. Thirdly and most importantly the reason why I dont own a console is that I dont own a Huge Wide Screen HD-TV, something that's extremely expensive and since I don't watch TV anyway I can't justify buying just for a few console games that are worth playing.

The problem with 3dmark and any other commercial benchmarking software is that it is supposed to be impartial but in fact it CAN'T BE! You see Nvidia & AMD have both written driver's in the past (and I see no reason they won't in the future) that directly optimise the performance of their relative hardware with 3dmark.

Translation: They cheat.

Just wait for the Larabee from Intel, Im pretty sure it will blow our mind. Ray Tracing is horribly slow right now, but it really is the technology that will push graphics a few years from now. Im pretty sure that one of the biggest microprocessor manufacturer in the world wouldn't be pushing this technology if it doesn't think its not worth it. (Just for reference Intel is about 10 times bigger than Nvidia)

I was watching someone play Mass Effect for the first time today. He went evil, started pulling guns on people in dialog trees, started getting results. Oblivion had none of that.
