Well, if it makes you happy

The truth is painful isn't it? I think you should probably buy another .jpeg image of a virtual ship, I'm sure it will make you feel much better.

They're not especially sympathetic to Kotaku's argument that publishers are trying to 'hamper independent reporting in pursuit of a status quo in which video game journalists are little more than malleable, servile arms of a corporate sales apparatus'."

Oh noes. They're not sympathetic to that? I WONDER WHY??!

(hint, Ars: Maybe it's because for 15+ years, you game "journalists" have been sucking publisher dick and regurgitating press releases rather than do anything that could even remotely be construed as actual journalism.)

So no, no sympathy. Fuck that. Kotaku have been some of the worst publisher mouthpieces, and now because they've published like two articles that "revealed" something (and please, half the fucking world knew the next Fallout was going to be set in Boston, as early as like 2011), all of a sudden they're the Champions of Gaming? Fuck Kotaku.

Lol, from the Kotaku article:

They will claim we are “hurting video games,” and, as so many do, mistake the job of entertainment reporting for the mandate to hype entertainment products.

Oh pot, you and kettle, always at it.

The problem is, Bethesda is angry at Kotaku for, you know, doing actual journalism. Finding out about games in development is actual journalism.

Kotaku sucks, but the reason Bethesda is angry at them is because they did the exact thing people keep asking them to do.

It's not respectable journalism. They're not doing anything to serve the public interest. Details of unannounced games isn't really a need-to-know thing. It's on the level of photographing celebrities in their bathing suits.

Yeah, you get your temporary spike in clicks, but of course that's going to get you shitlisted. DUH.

Bullshit Mag, if a gaming news site or magazine finds out that one of the most potentially popular upcoming releases has absolute shit for content, then that is exactly what I as an avid gamer and consumer want to know, thank you very much. That is the definition of making a scoop, so to say.

If that is not respectable journalism to you, then you have no fucking idea what journalism is.

Well I was one of the suckers who bought into this game. Problem was, by the time I joined NS2 most others already left. So yeah, pretty sad servers, and the commanders were usually absent or sucking badly. But when the game clicked (rarely) and two good teams formed, it was some seriously wicked awesome fun.

I always felt the biggest problem with the game was the level design. Not that it was bad or anything, just misdirected. This type of game needed at least a few larger, more open levels which would allow for bigger teams and more open ended games, but yeah the huge loading times were probably the main reason they never went this route.

The exact same way Elite: Dangerous did in it's infant, alpha stages. Right before it improved dramatically.

Having fun with the game finally after getting through the boring parts early on and getting to grips with my initially gimped STR based character, but it's definitely not free-form in the way that Fallout New Vegas was. I fucking HATE it that I can't be the bad guy and that there is very little choice anywhere in the game. Basically you can choose to finish any given quest, or not. So far Ive only seen one optional side quest addition that, you guessed it, had really no outcome on the quest itself. It's a fun action/exploration game, and Im enjoying the crafting parts way more than I thought I would although the base building is cringe worthy and I haven't touched it. There is very little 'role' playing in the classic sense of the word, the game is more like GTA or Far Cry and it's not a bad game (apart from the horrendous first few hours) but it's definitely not a role playing game.

Sometimes i wonder ... what do people on BluesNews NOT hate? Not that i have a special love for Kotaku, but blacklisting a media outlet is NOT a good thing. There is nothing to cheer about.

Oh give it a rest with that bullshit already. Yes, we rip on stuff...that deserves to be ripped on and we also praise the stuff that deserves praise. Kotaku deserves to be smacked down. You don't run amok and not expect consequences. You want corporations to be your pals then you have to play ball with them. As the old expression goes, there's a way thing ought to be than there's the way things are.

Why would anyone be friendly with someone who is hostile them, leaks their secrets and causes them embarrassment. And worse, they do it not out of any sense of responsibility, but solely to make money. The assholes of Kotaku aren't some paragons of virtue being hard done by here. If your business is predicated on co-operation from the companies you speak about on a regular basis than you better toe the line. If not, fuck them in the ass sans lube and go your own way - which is what Kotaku chose to do here. They made their bed, now they have to lie in it.

Youre one of the most contrarian people on here Cutter. Im not sure whether you are are liberal, a conservative, a communist, a fascist an anarchist or just an asshole. What is the point you are trying to make here? Why the hate for Kotaku?

edit: Looks like developers from all over the place are coming out and saying "lulz, too bad for you kotaku." Couldn't happen to a nicer group of assholes.

Did you even read the article? The reason I ask is because the article asserts that many in the developer industry feel that the gaming 'press' is supposed to be an extended arm of their marketing departments. From what you've written here you seem to share this opinion.

Skyrim with mods was awesome. I could see Fallout4 becoming awesome with someone modding the entire fucking faction/quest structure and adding a shit-ton of content but that would/could take a looong time for a typical one or two man mod team. Oh well....At least I can go back to my quest of finding a worthwhile heavy weapon...

That dialogue mod could come in handy because the choices you are given are often far too vague. Not like it matters though, most boil down to a yes/no question.

Choice and consequence was a staple of the previous games. No longer it seems?

Since when is utilizing a primary mechanic of the game (crafting) considered "gaming the game?" I will grant you they should mention in the perk description that shotguns are grouped in with rifles (different perks for single-shot and automatic), but otherwise all of that stuff is pretty straightforward.

Say you take a pipe gun; with a pistol grip and short barrel it is meant for close range hip-firing, but put a long barrel on it and it is then less accurate when fired from the hip but has a longer range and is more accurate when aiming down the sights. Put a stock on it and it turns into a rifle, which has better recoil control but even worse hip-firing accuracy. Put a scope on it and it's a sniper rifle, with more sighted accuracy and longer range. Upgrade the receiver (possibly to a larger-caliber bullet) and you increase the damage. Single-shot does more damage, or you can turn it into an automatic for higher rate of fire with less damage per shot.

You control all of these things, every aspect of your weapon. Use a proper one for the way you want to fight and you won't have an issue with being effective in combat. But no matter what, upgrade to something better than a pipe gun ASAP, lol, 'cause they're meant to be crap. Hunting rifles can be found pretty early on, and they last a long time, eventually able to be upgraded to .50 cal.

As for Strength-based characters, melee is really not a one-size-fits-all combat solution. You're gonna need to be super tanky and creative in how you approach situations, and even then you're not going to be as effective as you might like until you fill out that side of the perk tree. The 'Rooted' perk opens up a stick-and-move playstyle that should make you near-unstoppable when you use it correctly, but you're still going to need backup weapons for some threats, like those rooftop snipers. You get the perk to improve heavy weapons, which is a class that encompasses a wide variety of ranged attacks, so I'm sure you'll find something you like.

Ok, now thats a proper retort. Thanks for that, you changed my mind about giving up on the game so Ill stick with it a little bit more because like Verno said, it's a little bit boring so far.

So yeah, thanks for confirming to me that Fallout4 is only fun when you game the game. Try playing a strength oriented character and get back to me. I do however wonder how you managed to make markers, I couldn't place any on the map no matter how much I tried left or right clicking on it.

Depends on what you disagree with. Do you think that HL1 and 2 weren't good games to begin with or do you think they are shit in hindsight?
