not if you knew the difference between the sawdust that gets passed off as coffee in the supermarket and a cup of just roasted, freshly ground dark roast.

OK, I challenge you to a blind taste test.

I'm not talking about pre-ground store-bought coffee vs freshly ground at home coffee. I'm talking about freshly ground at home with different grinders.

Line up 5 identical cups of coffee differing only in how the beans were ground. I'd wager that few, if any, could tell you which coffee came from which grinder.

Deal with it, but arguing about it is just plain stupid.

OK, I'll do my best to "deal with it". In the meantime, I'll continue to state my opinion on the matter the same as Mattrick is doing. I will also continue to question his motives. Do you honestly believe he would be spouting the same "people don't want physical media" rhetoric if HD-DVD had won?

And from my experience, the vast majority of people who have expressed an opinion on the matter have stated a preference for physical media over digital downloads. Sighting such things as bandwidth limitations, reduced quality of material due to compression, elimination of special features, portability issues, corrupted downloads, storage concerns, etc.

"People love being able to download and interact instantaneously with high-def content."

No, people love being able to hold a physical copy of something that they own. Something that they can carry around with them and play on various machines and lend to friends. And since when were movie downloads "instantaneous"?

Microsoft recently went head-to-head with rival Sony by backing HD-DVD movies rather than Blu-ray, but within months Blu-ray technology won out, leaving Micorsoft to ditch its HD-DVD movie peripheral for the Xbox 360

So, if HD-DVD had won the format war, anyone care to guess what Mattrick's opinion would be? Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me.

You know you're not making sense, right?

I'm making perfect sense if you understand where I'm coming from. I'm not asking why id must strive for photo realism, I'm asking why it seems to be so important to so many gamers?

The problem only shows itself when smokes intersects a plane, so when smoke is used in an open environment this problem isn't present

Well, I couldn't tell you what the specific environmental circumstances were in other games. I'm just saying that the Bioshock example you pointed to strikes me as one of the poorer looking smoke effects that I've seen in recent games. Aside from the screenshots from Bioshock, I can't recall any examples where the smoke looked that bad. Maybe I just wasn't looking hard enough.

I'm so sick and tired of battling monsters/mutants.

What can you replace "monster/mutants" with that hasn't already been done multiple times in other games? You could make the same statement about nazis, demons, robots, tanks, mechs, etc. It's not like anyone else is coming up with an original enemy type that hasn't been done to death. Keep the gameplay fresh, interesting, and most importantly, fun and I couldn't care less what I'm actually shooting at in a FPS.

Meh. While improved, some of the characters in the trailer still look like rubber.

its not as bad as those found in doom 3. i am sure they have the ability to make it realistic but stuck with their trademark artistic style. maybe...

Not sure why people get so hung up on stuff like this. If the game is good, who really cares if the characters look like "rubber"? It's still leaps and bounds beyond the graphics of 5 or 10 years ago and yet there were still great games to be found despite inferior graphics. Seriously, why must every game strive for photorealism?

The biggest one is smoke without lines running through it... that has a pretty huge visual impact. The screenshots of Bioshock demonstrate it well

I think that's more an example of shoddy programming than any deficiency in DX9. I've seen plenty of examples of good looking smoke in DX9 games, COD4 being one.

Well, speaking of "whining", we sure don't have a shortage of kids here at Blues who just LOVE to do just that. You want some cheese with that?

No doubt. I'm looking forward to this. Just hope it lives up to the hype.

In this case, LucasArts has forsaken PC gamers, the very community who helped it rise to prominence back in the 90s. If you buy their games on consoles, you are validating their actions and nothing will change.

While I admire your commitment to the cause, if you honestly believe a boycott of LucasArts products by a handful of PC gamers is going to somehow reverse the console trend, you are sadly mistaken, IMO.

Man, you're really desperate to start shit with me today, huh?

Since you conveniently decided to post that comment of mine out of context it doesn't really say much. Not that I need to explain myself to you, but for others who care, my response (which was toungue-in-cheek) was to this comment -

So they want your PS3 to be a tivo?

But hey, feel free to dig through my post history just to be a dick. I'd go through yours but I'm busy for the next year and a half.

Pointing out why a console is the more expensive of the bunch (they didn't go cheap on components) is not a fanboy comment. Rather, it is addressing past criticisms about the PS3 being costly with some reasoning. If I had said something like "the reason the 360 costs less than the PS3 is because 360 games suck" then you might have a point.

Thanks for trying to stir shit up just the same though.

FTA- "But in the end, by going cheap MS ended up paying more than $1 billion in its 360 recall."

Something to keep in mind when people complain about the price of the PS3.

Those screenshots look really nice. Of course, screenshot always tend to look nice so I guess I'll have to wait for some in-game video before getting too excited. Would be cool if they can pull it off.

what the hell my "older" gamer compatriots found to play on the PS3

Whew! For a minute there I was worried we weren't going to get any fanboy comments to go with today's consolidation section. Thanks for stepping up.
