I want to play Resistance 2 but paying Sony $400+ for a system is just too much.

If you were paying $400 just to play one game then I might agree with you. However, over the lifetime of any console, the initial hardware cost is paltry compared to what you'll eventually spend on games/movies.

Movement is sluggish on the PS3 version but that's to be expected.

Define sluggish. If you are talking about a technical issue then I have to completely disagree. I'm playing it on the PS3 and it controls just fine. If you are talking about the speed of your character as it was designed, well then that's another issue and a matter of opinion. True, you can't do blink-of-an-eye 180 degree turns as your characters movements seemed to be grounded in reality. IMO, this works for the game rather than against it as it ups the tension level dramatically. When that unseen monster attacks you from behind, there's a genuine sense of panic as you try to come around in time to fight back before getting hit again.

I'm about halfway through and I am loving this game.

I'm currently playing and enjoying this on the PS3. I am not aware of any control issues aside from the usual debate about which is better, controller or mouse/keyboard. While I'm sure control is more precise in the PC version there is nothing that I have encountered in the console version that should cause anyone any concern. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who is considering getting it.

LBP could be a niche game. Many players wont have the patience for all of the setup time that goes with it.

What setup? You turn it on and play. Why do so many people think that creating user levels is a requirement to play this game? It is a feature, not a requirement.

Hype or substance? My guess is the former...

It would seem that most reviewers disagree with you - http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/littlebigplanet

Hype typically comes during the preview phase. Now that people are actually playing it, I've read nothing but good things about it.

Yes most of it will be garbage (just like any other game with user mods), but some will be well thought out and created levels.

And don't forget, it comes with pre-made levels out of the box so it's not like you have to create your own levels in order to play.

The problem isn't the price of the player. It's retail outlets like Circuit City, Best Buy, and Walmart charging $25-$35 per movie.

I think the bigger news is that Woolworths is still around. I thought they went the way of Rickles and Two Guys.

Anyone else find that the scroll wheel will only scroll the page down, but not up, when using Chrome?

What a CF this is going to be - the two heaviest topics come full circle today: Recreational drug use and politics...

People who go on about the evils of marijuana rile me in the same way as the people who claim video games turn kids into mass murderers.

"...worried Amy’s brain was damaged by the cannabis overdose"

And here is where the article loses all credibility (ignoring the fact that this comes from The Sun). You cannot overdose on pot. Period. Perhaps the first overdose of "cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, ketamine and crystal meth" had a bit to do with her current problems?

That would be me (Optimum Online)... hard to imagine a faster connection than that, but FIOS apparently is.

I have Optimum Online as well and have been solicited several times by Verizon to switch over to FIOS. The problem for me is that I have the triple play package that gives you two free movie tickets every Tuesday. Not sure I want to give that up as I now find myself going to the movies just about every Tuesday, even if it's a crappy movie.

Seeing as how the original Bioshock fit on a single DVD and also seeing as how they were aiming for graphical parity with the 360 version, is this really newsworthy? The article is seemingly titled so as to come across as a knock against the Blu-ray format when in reality all it states is that they never intended to take advantage of it in the first place.

Why are people always trying to stir up controversy with all things PS3 related?

Unions have/had their place. Unfortunately, they have expanded into areas that really should not be unionized and they no longer serve the purpose they were intended for.

Sounds a lot like the federal government.

Simple problem to solve. Sample the sound, invert the phase of the sample 180 degrees, playback in a loop synchronized with the original source and at an equivalent decibel level. If all goes well, you will no longer hear the offending noise as the two signals should effectively cancel each other out. Simple!

But the speed at which Itunes achieved that, I think, is proof that once a Big Distribution system that people like is available they will move to it in massive numbers.

I'm not so sure you would see a similar adoption rate when talking about HD movies. I can easily burn over a 1000 songs on a single DVD. Thus, it's easy to maintain and keep your music library secure and portable. The same can't be said about movies.

Looks at what is happening. Seriously. Why would the major cable companies be spending the kind of money they are, upgrading bandwidth, getting set top boxes upgraded to deliver content on demand, unless they intended to exploit it?

I'm not implying there isn't a market for direct downloads. Hell, I've used it myself but, for rentals only. I'm talking about ownership. And what talking heads like Mattrick at Microsoft say people want and what the average-joe consumer says he wants aren't necessarily the same thing. My point is and continues to be, that in my experience, when it comes to ownership, most people have expressed a desire to stick to physical media. Doesn't mean there isn't a place for digital distribution.

LOL, the VAST MAJORITY?! IN BOLD EVEN!??

Yes, the VAST majority. Show me a forum where the digital download advocates outnumber the physical media advocates.
