the reason that "kill x of y" thing isn't enjoyable is because it doesnt make sense. you can't imagine a world where that happens. it is a case of shitty game design and gullible idiot players.

good for them though, if they enjoy shitty games.

I am so glad someone (areanet) has figured out we dont want fedex quests and we dont want any more kill x of y quests...

and yeah if you miss killing the dragon that's fine, im sure something else will trigger right after.

When they say dynamic do they mean the NPC quest giver will stand here instead of there? And when you get to the quest location, the target you need to kill / escort / harvest will be there instead of here? That's not really dynamic, that's just pushing numbers.

I dont think they intend on having 'quest givers' in the old sense of it. More like the public quests in Warhammer, just on a more dynamic scale across the maps. So everything runs this way, you go help kill the dragon and he gives everyone XP and loot.

i've been saying this has to happen for years! Questing in MMOs is garbage... they outlined all of the problems i have with mmo's.

IF they pull this off, i'm sold.

i tried the beta out, i was not a fan of the lobby interface; too much going on. All i wanted to do was do some matchmaking with a friend. Apparently you can't do that.

League of Legends is a little better (and simplified) imo. However with Starcraft2 on the horizon, won't be touching this.

This was an interesting article and it was somewhat candid.

I ran a very large guild on the Ironfist server when it was active. In fact, I think it was the largest on the server, certainly on the Order side. Our focus was Open RvR; fielding 50-100 people and capturing zones. We were a dominating force.. until you get to the bug ridden city.

It's nice they've addressed the city siege, but they've also removed fortress battles, and Land of the Dead was an absolute terrible idea.

I dont think LotD should have been open as often as it is. It needed to be open during certain times of the month. Since one side dropped to go to LotD when it was open, it left the campaign wide open for the other side to take and wait for timers to flip the zones.

What they did wrong was try to be too much like WoW, heavily scenario based and they forgot about the Open RvR guilds. As people got bored people left.

We had 400+ strong membership... actively playing. They all basically quit at the same time, and everyone was fed up.

They had a real gem here, Warhammer was a fantastic idea but poorly executed on some of the most important details. The IP is fantastic, the lore, hell even the gameplay wasnt half bad..

What sucked was the fact that there was a WoW mentality by the players that smaller numbers were more "elite", and that larger zergs were bad. This is a Wargame, and who can rally the most and be the more organized wins...

i dont know, i'm ranting.. but i wish the game was still going strong as I had a blast with it.

Wait a minute, people hate Steam now? Really? A convenient/fast digital distribution service with frequent, amazing sales? Probably one of the better things to happen to PC gaming in the past decade? Am I missing something?

you know i was thinking the same thing when i read the same comment you must have. At $10 for the complete Civ IV set, this was an instant buy.

I love steam; and so far valve has been very good about offering deals. I've nabbed quite a number of games with 75% off.

Since steam works as a digital locker, even better.

you know who is flirting with new pricing schemes in mmo's is Areanet and Guild Wars 2.

No monthly fee's and its a full out MMORPG unlike the last GW.

I'll be riding that train to town.

rooting for Derek myself this time as well.

He's in the right here, and is doing great things with Alganon. who wants another wow clone? No game will ever be able to 'be' a good enough wow clone, so dont bother trying. Go new, a fresh direction...

Nice to see you posting again, DSmart.

Reading comments, looks like they've also charged some who have canceled accounts previous to this.

If you've ever had an account and given them your card number, I suggest you double check your statement and make sure you dont have any charges from them!

Also, people thinking they will get reimbursed by mythic for the fees are probably wrong, considering the comments from people involved the last time this happened (they didn't get reimbursed).

I wasn't affected but i'm outraged. I'd like to see this his mainstream news. EA deserves a kick in the pants for this one.

My question is, how do they make an error like this? I'm a programmer myself, this seems like a rather big "woops" to make for such a large development house.

Almost appears like the old Cell company trick.. hey, lets wrongfully charge 5 million customers and reimburse all of them who call. Maybe a million of them won't call in, so we'll make huge bank!

Either way, intentional or accidental... EA/Mythic has a huge lawsuit headed their way, likely class action.

hey is this any fun? in need of a new mmorpg

Yes DDO is actually quite good. For a "Free 2 Play" game it is probably the top of its tier. It is best if you can get a static group to play with who all have VIP access to the game. (unlocking all quest lines).

DDO is unique in a lot of ways, and definitely a fun game imo. It's not perfect, but it shines in its unique gameplay. Some DnD knowledge will help a lot.

Xbox 360 for example has approx a 5% piracy rate, PC games on the other hand have a 400% piracy rate (although it varies widely by title, about 4 times as many PC games are pirated than sold).

Where did you get these numbers? Don't seem very accurate to me, in fact i'd even guess they're way off. Steam anyone?

ASJD wrote on Mar 18, 2010, 05:51:
Finally compare the 'modern' PC gaming installed base (that is decent hardware) to say the Xbox 360 installed base, and the 360 comes ahead in both installed base and piracy rates.

Hold on a second.. did you not just say... AND I QUOTE.. "Xbox 360 for example has approx a 5% piracy rate, PC games on the other hand have a 400% piracy rate" .. Did you just contradict yourself in the second paragraph of the same comment?

Typical AMD/ATI propaganda BS. That statement, like 99% of theirs, is not true at all. AMD/ATI isn't doing jack for graphics and gaming. Nothing worthwhile anyway. They continue to play catchup to NVIDIA and at the same time spread BS to discredit them.

AMD/ATI has words, NVIDIA has solutions/products. Period.

DirectX11 sure works really well on those NVidia cards...

Late is late, and developers are no longer waiting.
