The previous time they were going to upgrade the extremely outdated U:O1 they binned it halfway through as they eventually realised that the majority of the subscribers for the new game would be already existing subscribers to U:O1, and that these subscribers would not likely pay two subscriptions.

So it was either spend a lot of money creating a new product (development time, servers, etc) for a resulting steady subscription base that wouldn't be much more than the current one they already have, or just keep rehasing the existing (old) game.

Said it before and I'll say it again, last good ultima was #7 (part 1 and part 2)

U9 sucked balls. It was the buggiest POS to have been released and to be even released as an "Ultima" game was a major slap in the face for the waiting fans. It had none of the feel or depth of the previous games.
Last good Ultima was 7. 8 had some good bits but if I want to play a platform game I'll go play some mario.

"The ForceWare release 50 graphics drivers include the NVIDIA unified compiler technology that translates shader programs so that they are optimized for the NVIDIA GPU architecture"

Translation - Unfortunatly our hardware it total sh1te at doing things the way the game programmers intended so instead we're going to optimise/hack the shaders so you can actually get a playable speed.

Bollox am I going to buy it after what those wankers did to Dynamix.
I loved Tribes, grew quite fond of Tribes 2 (still play it occasionly :D).
Besides, I thought all Sierra did now was keep re-releasing half life.
How the bloody hell are they supposed to do a new game?!?!

"New nVidia chip to bring cinema-quality graphics to Sims, EverQuest programs."

lol, everquest looks like total shite - what the hell does bringing cinema style graphics to it do, apart from empahsising the poor models and crappy textures

Sierra can suck my left nut. The firing of the T2 development team stuck the final nail into the coffin as far as buying another sierra game goes (bastards canned the Babylon 5 sim as well).
I must be one of the few people who runs T2 succesfully though reading some of the other comments and general negativity - and thats on Win2k with a GF1 (32meg DDR).

Longtime member of PUF - who might you be? - I see you declined to post your name
If your a long time member you would have picked up on all the posts by the admins/mods running the new BU site stating that they have a sound financial backing/plan and expect to be turning a profit in a couple of weeks (BTW at the moment the mods are financing this themselves - hows that for a community?). There has also been ahuge response from members requesting that they be allowed to help out financially (via PayPal or some other way).

Besides - GSI started it and it was NOT "their shite", it was ours - we just were parking it there for the time being.
As I've said before - do a bit of reading up before posting illiterate misspelled rants where its obviously clear that you have no clue as to what is going on.

Have a nice day

Wrong,

The community had constantly indicated they did NOT want to move to fourmplanet - as anyone can tell whose used it and vBulletin - FP really does suck cheesy donkey scrotum.
The move was initiated when the community members discovered a test forum (it was called "example" at the time) after several GSI people had assured the "PuF" commmunity that they wouldn't be railroaded. Then the new GSI site director of PU (redef) posted that they would go to the FP s/ware DESPITE the wholesale objection to it by the community members.
Clambert (who owns the vB license for the OG PuF fourms), assisted by previous (volunteer) site directors/admins/moderators of PU initated the move (in this community the majority of mods/admins were voted for by the community itself - Democracy at its best ;)), copying all data etc to a new server whilst informing by email all 26,000 members.
After the move GSI had to quickly set about damage limitation (as the main reason they wanted PuF on fp was because it is a piece of software which they are looking to market to other companies, and it doesn't look good if one of your busiest forums is using a competitors piece of s/ware ) by finishing off the test forums and redirecting the urls to the new Fileplanet forums. They had to do this pretty smartish as they didn't have a license for vBulletin (as it was Clamberts).
Please check your facts before posting.

Thanks,

Thanks for posting this Blue - I notice you didn't put anything about GSI's rection (deleting of access to hosted sites/mail accounts - sometimes even the site files themselves etc for the the hosted site creators/admins/moderators if they had the audacity to post at the transplanted forums - including such sites as modelfarm, fusion and nalicity).
But at least people who might have missed the email that went out to all 26,000 odd members can see that we moved (if their profile had an out of date email address they wouldn't have got it)- which was the main reason I posted the tidbit in anyway.

Thanks again Blue.
