Refresh fix? Aug 2, 2002, 15:22

What I don't see, (I may have missed it.) is a fix to the screen resfresh problem. Does anyone know if this is fixed?

Mr. Romero might like to think he "left" id, but as I remember it, he was fired. His work didn't measure up and he was let go.

What color is the sky in your reality? Quake 3 did not bomb. It sold very well..still does. And there are more quality games based on the Q3 engine than any other engine.

The bottom on line is this: I have no respect for anyone who cares only how much their product sells. That's no criteria for quality. Garriot seemed not to care about quality, only the dollars pouring in. This is ok if you are selling drugs or scamming people. But it's not ok when it comes to computer games. If a game designer\coder is not primarily interested in quality, he's not worth a damn.

I have no problem with games that work making a profit. if you remember, UO was trash when it first came out. (Never really got much better IMHO) Why people played it, I don't know. But my point was, he didn't seem to care that game was garbage...as long as it made money.

If you can't see a problem with that attitude....

- Don't bother. This is me taking a walk. I'm f**king off now...bye-bye...(making the sound of footsteps getting distant)

Easily the best news I've heard all year.

Mr. Garriot may have created some worthy titles in the past. But he lost my vote of support when he was bragging about how much money UO was bringing in....not mentioning the serious problems that made the game nearly unplayable. He certainly derserves acclaim for his contributions, but reserved acclaim.

If only Mr. Romero viewed it as a "learning experience". I don't recall him ever really coming to grips with the critics and players branding Daikatana as a failed game. All the quote from him on the subject proclaimed it to be exactly what he wanted it to be. I don't see that he learned anything from the experience...except perhaps how to deny the obvious.

Regarding what might have been had he stayed at id...he didn't have the option. He was fired. He might like to remember it differently, but that's the bottom line. He didn't have the choice to stay.

I'm not trying to defend CS or try to proclaim it the greatest game of all time. The simple truth is that there are ten times as many people playing CS as there are any other game. The numbers speak for themselves. The idea that hype alone would keep those numbers high is beyond stupid. If there were nothing to the game, people would try it and stop. That's clearly not happening. People are trying it and continuing to play.

Like it or not, believe it or not, it's the most popular (non-mmog) FPS multiplayer game on the net, and it has been for quite some time.

I appreciate the effort Valve has put into the game.

Shows how much you gentlemen know...

There are over 70,000 Counter-Strike players RIGHT NOW (Per www.csports.net)

The next highest game is Medal of Honor with a whopping 5,900 players. You do the math.

Someone apparently still likes this game.

The bottom line is simply this: DNF has been in development for an unreasonable amount of time. Why? What will it bring to the table that's worth the time and anticipation? Or are you setting yourself up to be the next Daikatana? It's a very real possibility.
