They are basically on the guild wars system. Free to play, no subscription, buy expansions. Or don't buy them and still play.

But, go ahead, buy your Star Citizen ships with real money every few days...that's way cheaper than a $50 game.

star citizen has announced nothing like this. as of now, buying the star citizen game for $50 or whatever gets you ALL of it.

and to me it's not like guild wars either. guild wars had independent expansions. for elite, you're buying primary features, or chunks of the game, as they make them. you either fund the development with a virtual monthly fee, or you are stuck with a feature-incomplete game. I do not think of elite horizons as an expansion pack

I would rather fund a game with rich people collecting ships than everyone paying $50/year. but if it works for them, good for them

update: played the new release. impressive tech. the "MMO" star citizen looks on schedule for first release in 2 years. nothing to see here but normal software development

anyone who thinks this release is done because of derek smart has never worked in software. this release is done now because 300 people have been working on it for months. there is nothing ds can do to change that

to be fair, you're wrong. they did not spend 5 years working on the game. and they did not spend $100M on the game.

by the way, how long do you think it should take to create a 300-person studio from scratch?

this is the "let's make it like overwatch" patch. the original game design is just not fun enough. NS combat was better and they ignored it

all of this work needed to be done, and more needs to be done. I actually think valve started this work many years too late. the writing was on the wall 15 years ago. windows will not be the gaming platform of choice forever. someone or something will fill that void. valve developing up a linux distro is as good a direction as any.

and now that they've built this early platform, they're in position to take advantage of the next 10 years of vulkan game development. the games of 2016 and beyond won't have 50% performance penalty in steamos.

this game is more of the same. the complaints below are valid. but yes, the game is still fun.

activision does the same thing with call of duty. they've been milking it for as long as bethesda has milked morrowind. I guess people complain more about call of duty because it's more popular and is has 2x+ more releases. but the time span of milkage is the same

the way I see it, problem with fallout 4 is the same as fallout 3. it's morrowind with guns. the fact that the graphics and other qualities of fallout 4 have barely kept pace with the status quo seems secondary to me compared to how IT'S THE SAME FUCKING GAME OVER AND OVER AGAIN

despite all this work, fallout 4 looks like fallout 3 with bigger textures. sorry bethesda, but time is running out. invest profits now into the engine of the future, or else be left in the past

the best old game they've got is probably diablo 2 after all the patches. they really took it from a bad clone of diablo 1, into something really spectacular. it just needs a graphics upgrade (but not a style change)

if you're interesting in this game, take my advice and save yourself some time and frustration. only play the DLC. this game has an hour of gameplay in it and one or two of the DLC is the best of it. I'd say it's worth $30 if you're a big fan, but no more

And also, this is one of these things... I am probably a really bad person, but female let's players are for me instant turn-off. I like male players with good humor and soothing voices. Never seen that in a female driven let's play. I mean, I seriously, NEVER, seen a decent (commented) let's play by a female, ever. Either it's the mic or the modulation of the voices... or maybe I am just strange.

not liking girls doesn't make you strange or a bad person. it's called being gay and it's perfectly normal

"Under the hood" changes are entirely fucking retarded because the fucking patcher downloads the entire game for every patch anyway....

Or they could just do patching in a sensible, or at least, non retarded way.

I don't care what game is in question, patches that cause one to download more than is needed, nevermind loads more, is a sign of either stupidity, incompetence, or simply an attitude of not giving a crap about customers. Even an untrained desk-monkey could be shown how to make a delta patch if they can't be bothered or are unable to make a decent patching process.

it's not as simple as you propose. cryengine uses these huge piggy data files which are encrypted and change randomly all the time. so making patching better involves changing the development and build process, not just the patch distribution and patching process. they'll get it eventually

they've spent months working on patching, and we know this because they've spent months talking about working on patching. I think they may have even laid off some of the people working on it and given the job to the formerly-cryengine team in germany

I wonder how much of that money they're wasting on big actors?

Figure about 4-5 million per A-List actor for 4 months of voice acting and MoCap performance.

- Gary Oldman (5 million)
- Mark Hamill (5 million)
- Mark Strong (5 million)
- Gillian Anderson (4 million)
- Andy Serkis (5 million)

stop embarrassing yourself and stop posting in star citizen threads. honestly, stick to topics where we can't tell you're crazy. because now that I know, I won't be able to unsee it. you're ruined for me forever
