Really liking this game so far. Besides some CTDs, I haven't experienced any bugs at all. The atmosphere is great, and there are so many quests!

A world of wonder, a land of beauty, across the mountains and over the sea but I still haven't found any diamonds.

I've been walking around for miles, still no diamonds to be found. Maybe I should look underground?

You're never going to find diamonds at ground level, the simplest way to find diamonds is to dig a staircase down until you find bedrock, then tunnel around that same depth. Be sure to have an iron pickaxe or better on hand to mine them.

Regardless of the new OFPs being crap, it always sucks to hear a studio being shut down and a bunch of people losing their jobs.

Aw, never release on Fridays?? I can't think of a better day of the friggin' week to release awesomeness!

There was an update released on a Friday a while back that broke a mess of things, since Notch and Co. tend to not work on weekends, the game went broken until Monday.

I read a great article by a developer not too long ago that delved into the whole "Heroes hate helmets" thing, though I can't seem to find it anymore... Anyway, the main reason why is good ol' fashioned individuality, to make the hero stand out among all the faceless goons.

Dead Space 2 is, so far, the best example of a game getting around this popular trope with the hero's neat collapsible helmets.

Speaking of 40k in particular I recall a bit in one of the fluff pieces describing the typical suit of powered armor and how the first thing that fails on them is usually the air filtration system, forcing the wearer to remove his helmet in order to continue breathing.

In the table top game, most of the metallic officer and commander unit models don't even come with a helmet and when they do it's usually a different design than what the basic units come with, though you can take the helmet from one of the fancier plastic units that come with separate parts and use it on the metallic one. From a gameplay standpoint, it's a good idea for heroes to go without helmets so that players can easily identify where their more important units are among the gaggle of basic units, though you can get around this by painting the hero's helmet a different color scheme.

Then there's the whole Space Wolves "We don't like helmets because we can track smells better without them" deal their scouts swear by.

Not sure to what degree but that artifact is present in many FPS. Unless I'm mistaken it is/was in Quake engine based games.
No, iD software has fixed this issue since Quake, but in their previous games, it was present (Doom 1+2, Wolfenstein). If you watch Doom speedruns, they always run diagonally which looks kinda funny

I wonder when they fixed it... I'm pretty certain this was an issue even in in HL.

I think Valve fixed it for HL, but it had a different movement related oddity: Hugging the walls by running forwards and towards the wall gave you extra speed.

In addition to that, the Aether mod and the Titans mod are must haves these days.

Really, any mod that adds objectives and things to shoot for are highly recommended.

Some people call it a difficulty curve.

The people who stick it out with the game call it a difficulty wall.

The realists among us call it a difficulty precipice.

That said, Bay 12 have repeatedly said a UI overhaul is coming, but that there are more important things to work on before they can get to there, unfortunately they've been saying this for quite some time now.

It had some pretty funny dialog, actually better than a lot of games manage, but it was more in the vein of stuff like, well, pretty much any movie with Vin Diesel in it.

I found the dialog more comparable to something like American Pie or any of the Scary Movie/Typical-Spoof-Movie than The typical Vin Diesel yarn.

For the record, I also liked Bulletstorm. A balls to the wall action shooter that came during a time when I was swimming in tactical shooters, felt like a breath of fresh air.

As a result, the paid version of the game was removed from the site and as of now, customers who have paid for the game (including myself) can't download the game they paid for.

About this bit: Maybe it was me dreaming it or something but I could swear reading somewhere that Valve had allowed Indie Stone the use of Steam's servers for distribution, do you know anything about this?

I only got to play the alpha a couple of times back when it was still available, saw great potential but figured I'd just let the game simmer for a while before getting back to it again. Since then I've been reading on Reddit about all the hardships the team has been going through. (The whole "Paypal freezing their account" fiasco was particularly painful)

Damn, it's incredible how bad things were at Bondi, and how LA Noire still turned out to be so cool. (YMMV)

I guess Bondi being kicked out of the R* fold won't really be a bad thing, judging by everything said here. And perhaps LA Noire 2 will be even better.

Creston

Your last point actually has some precedence: Red Dead Revolver was originally a quirky third person shooter by Capcom that had to be dropped, was later picked up by Rockstar and finally slapped into shape to what it is today, turning out to be above average but nothing really special.

Red Dead Redemption eventually came along and blew everyone away.

Perhaps if Rockstar do acquire to rights, they'll be able to turn out something special for the sequel.
