It's irrelevant what they 'could' get - we all have a right to PRIVACY.

That includes what we buy and where we buy it.

Any corrupt employee (yes, you can trust everyone who has access to data eh?) or anyone else if the data is leaked can use this sort of information to determine your regular patterns, or other patterns.

For instance one of my clients went on an overseas trip - while he was away a crime syndicate forged his identity and bought all the hardware necessary to set up a grow op. It was determined by the local authorities that this was done by someone who had access to enough computer records to not only know a large amount of data on him and his family but enough to have a new credit card issued at exactly the same time he was travelling overseas.

Data is NEVER safe - Personal data accumulated by governments IS a target because it is valuable. People screw up and not everyone with 'legal' access to the data is trustworthy.

The best way to prevent abuse is to remove the mechanism that gathers it in the first place.

1. WW2 online is still going? Sep 2, 2009, 00:59 Bard

I have a box from when it first came out gathering dust .. from oh... MANY years ago.

I like my products working - especially ones I have to pay money to play and WW2OL never worked as far as I was concerned.

Maybe if they do another welcome back soldier type of thing i'll give it another go but it's kind of pathetic that it's 8 years later and i'm still waiting for a quality product.

hardcore=willing to put up with bugs that would be unacceptable in any other piece of software.

You can always count on eastern european and russian developers to shovel unfinished shit out the door and abandon it before completing it.

..with their lack of fixing things that are broken.

Not buying any of their products where the word 'potential' is mentioned - it has to BE good, not just have the potential to get there - as we know the dev will never bother.

ABSOLUTELY spot on movie.

To the guy who thinks that we shouldn't expect something this complex to be solid - I call bullshit. Arma2 is what.. the 3rd iteration of the same product, on the same code base - by now it should be rock solid.

"and despite bugs"

... when it's this buggy it precludes anything but being crap.

I wasted my money on ARMA 1.

Basically it was an engine - it took the community to come up with something playable - the netcode sucked, the AI sucked. The physics - in particular flying - was not anywhere near realistic.

It was glitchy, buggy, unstable. From what I've heard from friends who bought it it's not much different.

Australia is a testing ground for the mechanisms that'll be used to suppress free speech - this filtering is simply putting in place the bits and pieces that will allow the Aus government to filter anything that they wish, in secret. Already it's been shown that this filtering is being abused - such as one politician's relative running a travel agency in a town, and somehow his competitor got on the 'filter' list.... yay corruption

We don't need no stinking filtering

If you didn't make crap you wouldn't be worried about people talking.

How about gamers being sick and tired of the issues most DRM introduces to operating system stability and security and pirates can download the same game without the DRM and not suffer problems.

Why is it that people who are willing to fork over the money to buy the product have to deal with all this extra bullshit that pirates don't?

It's gotten stupid.

I don't walk through stores and hear people talking about the DRM

I do... and amongst my gamer friends the DRM scheme is the next thing we discuss after finding out about it.

I won't be buying anything with DRM.

Here in Canada most forms of DRM on software are currently illegal. We are allowed to "Create a FULLY FUNCTIONAL backup of software purchased".

Until my consumer rights are guaranteed I won't purchase DRM protected software products.

Why not have a shooter where you go after the NEOCONS and their blackwater uber evangelist private army?

Travel the world countering MOSSAD false flag operations, preventing their blowing up of skyscrapers and aircraft and blaming it on other people?

Locate and defuse bombs planted during a terrorist exercise by MI-5.

Chase and hunt down Rupert Murdoch and bring him and other 'news' moguls to justice
