my work went from planning and implementation and a little bit of support, to a never ending cycle of patching backdoors and other state requested surveillance stupidity and dealing with issues caused by these backdoors.

the whole surveillance culture should bugger off - it's completely screwed both our security and privacy, while protecting us from not much more than potential whistleblowers and journalists.

Facebook news?

During the election I noticed some trended Trump attack ads (disclosure, i think neither choice was a decent human being).

Out of curiosity I checked out the Domain Registration history of the trended sites in question, and went back through the internet time machine, and found pretty quickly that the sites were purchases of lapsed domains that had contained other things (HeatStreet for example, was a driveway heating company). Before the registration had been anonymized I found that a PR company in Washington had bought them.

Both domains had been purchased, basic RSS fed CMS's had been set up, and were being pumped with the same generic clickbait stuff.

Alexa (the web site statistics site) showed that the sites had pretty much zero traffic.

Yet all of a sudden, Trump attack stuff being hosted on these two sites was trended in Facebook immediately?

When I presented the heatstreet facebook account with the information I found, on their facebook page, the facebook account went dark within minutes. Only to come back sometime later with a new and clean facebook account.

Facebook getting into News looks suspect as hell....

But in the new XCOM you also fight the thin men, who are g-men that have integrated into higher levels of government and... omg, they represent creeping sharia, don't they!!!!!!!!!!`1!!?

No, no. See, these games are pro-right wing and Trump, so the thin men are the evil Deep State.

Play any military shooter and it becomes obvious within seconds how utterly brainwashed into supporting the never ending regime change in the middle east foreign policy most players are.

2. Re: That is rather nice of them Mar 8, 2018, 12:53 Bard

The only compensation I think should be made is to REMOVE THE STUPID DRM being used!

If it doesn't operate without an internet connection - fix it so that it does.

Why do you need active Internet connection to use the Oculus Rift? It's same as needing one to use a monitor...

DRM.

It's when their DRM is more important than reliability or privacy.

Wow that Facebook headline is such enormous bullshit that I wish I could burn down CNBC right about now for wasting my time with that clickbait crap.

I am starting to get really angry at news sites that pull complete inverse news like this, because that is literally the exact opposite of what facebook asked and with the spin they added it's even complete fake news. Read the actual poll from Facebook and realize what utter BS this news is. And they wonder why everyone sees fake news nowadays.

Fuck CNBC, they are a disgrace to journalism

All media has an Agenda that's easy to see when you pay attention - people just don't notice because aaaw puppies

I'm not sure what the appeal of being an Uber driver is. Everything I've read about it is negative. Maybe it's just some kind of evolution of social media?

For some people, it's the only source of income they can get. You know, with Socialism only being for commies...

I would like to see presentation of the information we were supplied by the Russian Trolls.

I've noticed a few subscribed youtube accounts of mine that have been taken offline - however i know for certain the information provided to me by them was 100% correct (mostly being reports on information contained in wikileaks data, which has a track record of 100% correct 100% of the time).

It seems this is not so much about doing anything dodgy, like say, the privately owned north american media which happens to be owned by parent companies making their money off military adventurism - but providing voters with true information and influencing them so that they are informed voters.

Seems like this is a war on truth, rather than a war on lines, because the truth is inconvenient to the current political elite.

This is a great example of, if you say it for long enough, people believe it

New. Cold. War. False narrative. Learn from History.

They had better come up with a business model quick. A free press is vital in preventing abuse of power and corruption.

It used to be.

Now we have access to uncorrupted independent media organisations who are completely online. Like the Intercept.

The traditional press was made a target following Vietnam, and since then has become totally compromised.

Social media is bad for humanity, color me surprised.

yep!

social media is a double edged sword. you can have people spreading true information, and others spreading false information.

you can be sure, that there are interests at play that see the true information being the threat to business as usual.
