News Comments > "Supernanny" Takes on Violent Games
17. Re: "Supernanny" Takes on Violent Games Feb 10, 2010, 18:29 RenownWolf
I grew up watching things I shouldn't (18+ horror movies at age 9), playing violent video games (Doom, Quake etc..) and yet out of my friends I'm the most grounded. I disapprove of violence unless in defence of myself or even more so my better half.

Games haven't harmed me, if anything they helped when in school I had an issue with a person I'd go kill some people in Quake rather then battle it out.

Then again, there was kids at school who had issues regardless if they were copying movies, games or even their parents (it's amazing how many kids still get beat on by their parents).

Self control is key, just because seeing somebody being killed on a video game doesn't mean I'll laugh like a mad man and ask for more when somebody dies in the street. Then again, I've always been curious to see a car accident, but that's more because I just never get to see one take place infront of my own eyes.

But the much more important question is why Microsoft, Americaís most famous and prosperous technology company, no longer brings us the future, whether itís tablet computers like the iPad, e-books like Amazonís Kindle, smartphones like the BlackBerry and iPhone, search engines like Google, digital music systems like iPod and iTunes or popular Web services like Facebook and Twitter.

Lol this guy is an idiot. My previous phone ran Windows Mobile, it beats the crap out of what I've used of the iphone and the nokia os I have on my new phone. Plenty of tablet pcs coming with windows on them, I believe Bing is their search engine, MSN Messenger and it's tools are fairly popular (they aren't facebook, but they work plenty fine), and the latest version of their mp3 player is actually quite nice.

And dare I say it, Xbox Live has changed the multiplayer console game completely. I don't personally want to pay for it, but I agree it's a well designed system.

Bahh iPad.... the iWasteoftime.

So if you can get all parts for free who will they make money? I realise a lot of people will pay the cash to get the champions asap.

They'll either have to add more heros or more reasons to use points. Just interested in it mostly for the business aspect of how this will work vs the usual pay $20 and own everything model.

Science: 10 Amazing Space Projects from NASA and Beyond.

Mmm... I had heard they canceled going back to the moon. In my opinion they should as it would give the Americans a big boost in the ego department which they kind of need (Yes blah blah Americans evil etc...). But after the economic issues they have had and the impact that has been made on them (really bailing out the guys who fucked up and leaving the littles guys screwed??).

Go back to the moon, have a big party with all the fanfare. Be the Americans of the past. Start building a moonbase and say "The moon, land of the free" just to do it.

If the chinese or Russians get there first they'll take it, and you bet they'd have far more deaths and issues then the Americans due to their attitudes on their people and safety.

Sorry for the mini-rant, but I am big into humans surpassing our current way of life and expanding into the universe but I don't believe the Russians or Chinese are likely to do it right.

I had a conversation with a customer at work at the iPad. He already owns a iMac and he sees this as a awesome new item.

My biggest gripe is the lack of flash support... that in itself could be the winner for apple if included. People like youtube, those crazy flash games, or even those retarded e-cards.

It reminds me of the early days where you would only find Java on phones (ohh wait). They want to control the platform which is fine, but they need to know when choices are relevant to the user.

Honestly... my cheapy smartphone from Nokia Supports flash ffs.

Games are art if the creator calls it art. No doubt somebody will see it and agree or disagree, this is the case with all art since art was even called art.

It doesn't matter if some critic calls it not art, as long as one does and the creator thinks it as such.

Forget the naysayers and just do what you love and create more beautiful gaming art my friends.

Mmm... Interesting to see they fked the game browser again. I remember the issues with BF2 and that... ohh wait they are still an issue.

Dice really needs to rip some of that stuff out and start from stratch. Even with the 1.5 patch BF2 still has the Coloured tag bug.

Sigh, guess I'll pass on this from the sounds of things. I'll still to BF2 and BF2142. Though the cheaters in BF2 are unbearable.

A downloader for patches would be fine, but using the downloader to share the actual games to others is a bit annoying imo.

After being on previous connections here in Aust that method is cruel to the general user as some of our major isps count usage in both directions (yep, up and down).

Ontopic: I remember playing WC2 against my friend on his mac and me on my pc back in the day. At least blizz does support them, even though personally macs are not for me.

Does anybody know anything about this? I mean inregards to what they were actually doing.

They appeared... did nothing and still haven't got anything to show, good 4 years or so now. That's enough for an FPS with it's own engine or 2 with a premade engine.

Eww intel graphics.

Built a pc for the missus parents recently with a intel mobo (they didn't have what I needed in stock so settled for the intel) which came with Intel onboard... First action, disable onboard video, install a nice ATI card.

Now they have access to anything upto DirectX 9.x games wise. Although they aren't big gamers, at least they have the ability to run it and also do HD videos without lagging the pc to hell and back.

Agreed there Grokk. I am an Australian with the same issue.

$50us, sure why not... $100au GET STUFFED!

With a rate of .92 to the us dollar I should be paying around $55. Heck $60 if they wannt throw GST into the mix.

I just don't purchase those games, I still can't understand $120 Xbox 360 games... I own 3 games for my 360 and that's why (I waited until these games went platium for $40).

$80 (around $60us last year) is about the most I would pay, but $100 bah!

Having a lady of the house tends to stop massive gaming sessions. Mowing the lawn, washing the pets, trolling the supermarket for real food etc... tends to kill those massive 10 hour play sessions on weekends.

Then again, if she's in the thick of it with you I guess it could be different. My missus plays, but prefers to watch especially in FPS's and Strats. Not enough good co-ops around =D

It reminds me off Sins of a Solar Empire matches... 6 hours for a good match, but I don't have that kind of time these days. I use to play Wow too but stopped. It was a massive time sink and I was always behind the curve because I was "casual" meaning I couldn't collect all the gear required within the time frame.

Sold all my characters in the end (I botted some, because you don't know what it's really about until top level imo).

Wow isn't a lifestyle, it's just a game and should be treated as such. I stick to short action games now, or a epic story I can complete on my own time. I never want the feeling of 9-24 people waiting on me to complete a task that is meant to be "enjoyable". Then again I work and enjoy that when working on a project but that has structure (9 to 5, 5 days a week) that allows you to live a life without giving up things that matter more imo.

Actually my copy of Fight Club has a pink bar of soap. I swear it speaks to me and makes me to evils.

Washing oneself is the truest form of all evil. FEAR THE SHOWER.

With MA15+ the way it is these days, you hardly need R18+ anymore. Too bad with games they are stricter than movies, at least in my opinion.

It's our own fault. Everyone who isn't a politician is getting drunk, high, playing games, spending money, working way too hard for money, being consumed with racial bigotry, having 4 wanks a day, hanging out at the beach or some combination of the above. This country is so fun that only Ned Flanders can be fucked trying to manage it.

Hehe. Actually a lot of the more intelligent ones leave the country. We don't have enough locally trained doctors, tradies or IT people according to the media.

His points may apply to some people, but I've seen R18+ movies as a kid (horror, action etc...) and I'm not some twisted nut bag. My mum's a nurse and when I was old enough I asked to see what she did, that stuff is far more scary imo. Old people with dementia scare the shit outta me not some pixel on a screen.

Or gangs of teenagers walking the street at night... they should be at home playing some fkin games!

Should google start charging for their os and have a large share of the market the same will apply.

I do wonder which codecs they will supply out of the box, and how soon before somebody adds more to their list.

Heh, watching through Voyager atm and often amused by it.

Just gotta love that they all have a science background on her ship. OMG it broke, I know how to fix that... sure ya do buddy.

I'd just like to say, "On behalf of all the redshirts that fell before me, it makes me proud to say the following sentence... I'm the only one who brought a gun."

Hehe, I can stay I knew what you were getting at.. I've read masters of doom a few times over the years (it sits next to the loo).

I must say nobody tries to make themselves a brand like that anymore really. There are a couple but that don't seem to be able to get people on their knees like Romero.

Ms. Case are a business expert... don't see it myself, but then again, me as a caring human being? stranger things have happened.
