News Comments > NVIDIA Reference Drivers
6. Re: NVIDIA Reference Drivers Jun 15, 2010, 23:22 RenownWolf
How hot does the 480 run? Does it really suck down the juice, or do you not know?

I've been a Nvidia user for a long time, but I sway when ATI releases the better offerings for the generation (9800pro vs GeforceFX). Their drivers left me with a bad taste at the time, so I've mostly stuck with Geforce and currently have a GTX 275.

Would be nice to see another player enter the market, then again I'm more of a midrage card kind of person.... paying the usual $200+ extra for another 10fps has never appealed to me.

Creston! Excatly what I was thinking about when playing through recently. Level streaming has come along way and HL2 would feel even more "open" than it does even though it's pretty linear in where you can go.

They did a good job with level design to make you feel like it was much bigger than it really was, but it was all just BSP levels like most games.

I wouldn't mind seeing a new engine taking advantage of some new features. The minor updates so far are nice but somethings could be changed on a lower level.

Considering the code base comes from Quake I have no problems with how it works, but I'd like to see support for a new renderer for some of the nice features that have come from Opengl 3.x and DX10/11.

That said, I always thought that source games felt more "real" especially Half-Life 2 than most other FPS games I've played, but that most likely comes from the setting of Half-Life 2 and knowing how to use the engine right rather than the engine itself.

Eh I'd say he does, but like anybody elses anti-virus it doesn't catch everything.

I wish one of them did because then I'd only have to install 1 anti-virus program and never have to use various online ones to find a virus when somebody gets one.

They should be doing some cardio each day, regardless of their profession. It's good for your body and could only be of benefit.

Give up 1 hour of training at games, for physical activity and they'll find they will improve at their game.

Sad but highly likely.

Source engine, UDK style release?

I'd get behind that on the basis it's min requirements mean it would work for plenty of people.

I've been reading along, rather interested in the discussion the guys at indiegamer will have about it all.

Interesting way to gather data about the game here Cliffski, ingenius =) Trying to target the scifi space market for our company at the moment and the things I've seen here are excellent to prove sometimes an indie can just ask.

On your questions, I played the demo. Truth is I'm a action strategy person, rather then a long termer, so I passed. Not my style of the strategy genre.

One thing that does stand out, is what was mentioned about the min specs listed on the site. I have a P4 1.6ghz 512mb ram with a old Geforce in it I'll test it on and tell you if it's playable if that helps. At least then you can say that it will run on that. I'll even test it on my netbook (1.66ghz Atom 450 with the intel graphics, 1gig ram, win7 starter).

Again, well done on asking the questions. And to everybody answered, thanks for showing you're willing to answer the questions without getting aggressive and hateful. *gets tearful* This is why I love some of the gaming community =D

This has been running in some parts of Asia for awhile. It was in last years WCG finals are a showcase sort of game.

From what I gathered you level up something similar to that of League of Legends, to get extra abilities for your troops/tanks and allows you to use more units. The games showed on the WCG were top level players and it was rather cool to watch.

I'm not sure how the transaction parts work, but I assume it's to level faster and other things along those lines.

It comes down to the part where you are tricking the eyes to see what isn't there. This gives me a headache and I won't even bother with it.

I saw Avatar in 2d and don't think seeing it in 3D with a headache would change it for me.

3D tricks, no thank you. There is better 3d tech out there, it's just expensive and takes up space.

I'm guessing they built it on the cheap. From what I've read it's built using the Unity engine, which is a fair chunk cheaper than their other engines, but also has support for the style MMO setup they have gone with.

I tried to get into the beta just to check it out. I'm curious to know if it supports the webplayer plugin, or if it's download only.

I would say that Blue just posts the links that Hardocp provides and credits him with a link like he does for everybody that asks.

No different from ANT and his site =)

Podcast always got me... want an awful name for a pre-recorded radio show.

I've never downloaded one on the basis I don't own an ipod. It's like people who say they are going to "xerox this page"... You mean make a copy of it retard!

Stupid words for common tasks. I better Ford myself down to the shops and get some dinner.

Heh, as apart of "this evil greedy generation" I find all of it funny!

I pay my rent, I paid off my first loan early and learnt that saving is 100000 times nicer (buying my next car outright, no loans kthx). My ultimate goal is to buy a house without a major loan (ie the lower the better, 50% deposit would be sweet!).

I finished my high school with good marks, started my first career and found I didn't like it and returned to uni. I still am doing my uni, but also work fulltime while the rest of my time is devoted to what I love and want to do for my career. I'm not lazy, well I'm a bit chubby... the lady likes to cook some god damn good meals.

Want to know the big issue with his statement? I did this all while playing Quake 3 Arena and Counter-Strike throughout high school for 3-6 hours a night most nights. And then during my first job while studying playing wow (although only like 15 hours a week).

Guess they have killed my education then aye! Then again... I play PC games, not consoles! =O

"Games are overpriced"

I hardly think so, everything else has gone up and yet games have sat a a similar rate. You can still buy a $50us game after almost 20 years, yet you can't buy a brand new car for $5000us (well a decent one).

Games have stayed the same price for a long time, not even keeping up with inflation and instead have used their increased numbers of sales to stay ahead of the game. At some point it will lead to such thin margins it won't be feasible to even make a game as it will cost more than it will make. That is when prices will be driven up.

Well it's even taking place now with Activision and others increasing their prices to $60us. This has everybody crying foul, but it's a fact of life when you have a money system built on inflation as a natural factor. When games are costing more to make, the people making them still need to make money, this is business.

I agree certain things are a bit too far in regards to their pricing, but that's why it's a free market that corrects itself with lots of sales, price drops and competition.

Seriously, stop being ignorant and realise games are a business like anything in life. I'm not justifying massive profit increases by ripping people off, but asking a fair price for a good product is fine by me.

And piracy is ass! Pay for the product you use. Claiming because it's digital is a lame excuse.

Rappelz, Return of Warrior, Tales of Fantasy, Nida Online, Turf Battles and it goes on and on.

Really a lot of them look alike, hence the asian comment. Then again, there are lots of anime ones too.
