The real shocker is that the British government extradites its own citizens to a foreign nation. that the British populace even accepts such a law to exist is astounding. No developed nation (germany, france) extradites its own citizens, EVER.

Education is a wonderful thing. The US has extradition treaties with almost every '1st world' countries.

One machine, many players.

All on one screen so the 4 that are playing know exactly where the other 3 are. Wow that sounds like fun...NOT.

Yeah, there are LAN parties and gaming conventions, but those have a much higher barrier to entry than walking to your living room, plugging in a few controllers, and having some fun.

I'm not just talking LAN/Conventions like Quakecon. I'm also talking home based LAN parties. I hold a weekly LAN (8-10 people) at our home and have been doing so for almost 10-15yrs now. We setup in the dining and living rooms and play all weekend long, with the odd sleep/food break. We also hold LAN's at work all the time. I have numerous friends that do the exact same thing every week.

You make far too many assumptions regarding the death knell of PC gaming. Do you seriously think an entity like MS would invest the millions of dollars they have into the 'Games for Windows' campaign, knowing that it's just wasted money? Seriously, look at the issue logically, and you'll see PC gaming isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

PC gaming isn't dying anytime soon, sorry to break it to you.

A PC gamer can maybe find someone to play multiplayer with in some games, but largely there's nothing you can do with a PC in a social setting. Most gamers are social folks, they are not basement dwellers like it used to be.

Ever heard of a LAN party or a gaming convention? If the PC games userbase had shrunken, to the point you'd have us believe, neither of the aforementioned would be financially feasible and wouldn't exist. Methinks you need to paint your points with far less wide brushstroke(s).

Sorry, but that's a pipedream.

Beta, not just open, has completely lost it's meaning. Imho this is also one of the primary reasons games aren't nearly as stable, and the majority of the time a shell of what people were actually expecting.

We've gone from companies looking for people who are knowledgeable in different aspects of both hardware and software, to 'closed beta' keys being tossed out to the 1st '100 respondents to this facebook post'. It's almost like developers just don't want to wade through all the beta apps to see if there's more than tools applying, which unfortunately has been the case for almost every beta I've been involved in for almost 10yrs now. There are exceptions to the rule, but those are a rarity and not the norm.

One thing about COX is you can download the installer and just pay for the game per month.

Except you also need an account key. So no you can't just download the installer and play COX.

your all so good at painting Roper as the Supervillian of the gaming industry.

Exactly. Everyone's great at regurgitating what they read. I doubt any of the detractors, in this thread, even played H:L.

1 person alone does not kill a title. But most of the mouthbreathers here have their blinders on and haven't a clue how a company works, let alone a game developer. Yet they have no qualms thinking they could do a better job, which is completely unrealistic. If half the negative nellies, that post here about Roper and how horrible he is, were running the industry we'd have less what than what we do now.

80% less e coli doesn't guarantee you won't get it, it just means you have less chance of getting it. If it's not slaughtered properly you can still get e coli. All it takes is someone to nick the stomach or the bowel and you've got tainted meat, regardless of having 80% less e coli in the system.

I as well blame Scientology, as well as Jett's parents, but not regarding Kawasaki's syndrome.
This has to do with Autism, something there's been a lot of conjecture about in news stories. The way scientology deals with the diagnosis of autism, is to shun the person diagnosed. So it's extremely understandable why Mr Travolta has been so emphatic that that is not what Jett was diagnosed with. If you look really closely at a lot of the videos that have recently surfaced, you'll notice that Jett takes a lot of cues from the people handling him, especially in social situations. Even his father grabs his arm to make sure he stays with him in front of the cameras and not continue on to the mode of transportation they're using. Autistics have major issues regarding social situations. They don't pick up facial cues, nor do they pick up verbal cues that well. You'll also notice he averts direct eye contact, another classic autistic symptom. Since autism is a spectrum disorder, it is also possible that his seizures were due to that as well, as some autistics do have seizures not affiliated with other diseases and these seizures usually rear their ugly head in the 12-15yr age range.

Having a son of my own that's autistic has been quite the educational experience, an education that is not going to allow the Travolta's mouthpiece to pull the wool over my eyes regarding his death or the fact Jett clearly shows classic signs of being autistic.

'So you're saying id sold the rights to the Quake 2 universe for two fledgling companies to make expansions for Quake 2?'

Rogue is/was hardly a fledgling company. I guess they were so fledgling that they couldn't afford to have put out Hexxen either, right? They're now Raven software. No idea if Xatrix was fledgling or not.

And none of this is accusation or conjecture, it's fact. Anyone that was active in the gaming community back then was more than aware of the practice, which jasn't changed at all. It's no different than one developer paying another developer to use their game engine (Duke Nukem Forever anyone? How many engines have they paid licensing fees for now? 4-5?).
