Kudos to you for your work with Autistics! Speaking strictly about Autism, a friend of ours has an "Autistic" son who the state just took custody of by court order because in a violent fit he put his mom and one of her house guests in the hospital and it was ruled that he is a danger to himself and others and that she can't control him.. These fits of his have been very common throughout his, but he is 17 now and a pretty big kid. You'll notice I put "Autistic" in quotes because what this woman has learned is that in recent years it has come to the attention of many medical groups that Autism is quickly becoming one of the most misdiagnosed mental disabilities in the field of mental health. So, while you may very well be correct in saying that true Autism is not generally associated with violent or sociopathic behavior, it is very possible that a person who has been diagnosed with autism could easily display these traits simply because it was an incomplete or incorrect diagnosis. Also, it isn't like the news media ever vets anything like this before they just throw it out there for public consumption.

All special needs kids have the ability to have "fits" like that. It's not specific to the autism spectrum. The fit that you're talking about is not something that is planned (collecting guns and going to a school). It's something that happens due to varying factors (frustration, illness, over stimulation etc.), but it's always immediate and the focus is always on one or 2 people. But you'll never find a single psychologist or pychiatrist that will give an Autistic a diagnosis of sociopath. It also depends where on the spectrum a child, or adult, is. The fit you're describing tends to happen with lower functioning Autistics due to the aforementioned issues. Aspergers is high functioning autism. Most people with Aspergers end up with university degrees and/or are in the genius IQ range.
Mental health professionals shouldn't be diagnosing Autism either, perhaps that's the problem in the states. Up here in Canada it is a team based approach with both mental health professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, behavioural consultants and psychiatric nurses) as well as medical specialists and the family GP. From what I know, from meeting with the broad range of health professionals, that it's actually the opposite. A lot of Autistics, especially those that would fall into Aspergers category, tend to be misdiagnosed with a variety of mental illnesses. But these tend to be those that are higher functioning. When I was a teenager, 30 years ago, a lot of higher functioning Autistics were diagnosed with ADD/ADHD due to certain aspects of Autism being very similar to ADD/ADHD. Those kids never improved due to misdiagnosis and a good majority of them ended up living in mental health institutions. That's one of the issues with Autism, it's a spectrum disorder.

The news media is nothing more than sensationalism for profit especially in situations like this. Did you even read the article that Blue linked? Their business is to sell news and over the last 10yrs that means sensationalism. A perfect example is "bathsalts zombie". If they called it for what it was, a drug overdose, people would'nt even bother to read it. These school shootings are no different.

Read up!

I don't need to read wiki to know it's bs. And nowhere in that wiki article does it state that Autistics are void of empathy. You do know what a theory is right? Theory ≠ fact. 1 shooter with Aspergers (which is part of the autistim spectrum disorder) and you somehow find correlation to insinuate there's been a "rash of young men in their 20s causing this violence and they all seem to have some sort of autism." And then attempt to use a wiki article that doesn't even back your asinine assertion.

My son's autistic and I work with 10+ autistic children, and have worked with hundreds of Autistics over my career, and not a single one of them showed sociopathic behaviour. Perhaps you should actually do more study than wiki when attempting to sound intelligent, something you completely failed at.

Where exactly did you get that Autistics aren't empathetic? Probably one of the most inane statements I've ever read.

Wow... Way to fail at testing a PSU Madshrimps. Testing methodology is a joke. Ever heard of a load tester? OC3D certainly has ( http://youtu.be/MCuKM6Ux4B4?hd=1&t=4m24s ) and the Thortech PSU failed miserably. Not only is there an insane amount of ripple on the 12v rail, but the unit actually failed before reaching it's rated wattage. But Madshrimps recommends it...

I knew this was going to fail after the "friends and family" alpha shut down not even a month into it. I don't tend to expect much from early alphas, but this was absolute shite. That was a few years back, if recollection serves correct. One of our guildies did a short stint on the development team. Think he stayed with them for about 6 months before he jumped ship.

Good IP left in the hands of fools who had obviously never seen the series or even remotely had passion for sci-fi.

They took the concept from the Humble Indie Bundle, so when people see "Indie Bundle" they assume that this is being handled as a 'pay what you want' promotion, and some of the money goes to charity.

Even though I can't stand EA, that's more than just a stretch. Only a simp would equate a $20 game bundle, sold on digital distribution, to a pay what you want and split who gets what ideology sold from the humble bundle site.

Beelzebud wrote on May 5, 2012, 15:49:
What EA did was co-opt the "indie bundle" brand, and charge 20.00 for it, with no money going to charity. If they don't see why people are upset about it, they're more tone deaf than I imagined.

What EA did was call the bundle something it wasn't, to cash in on the "indie" craze going on. Again only a simp would confuse the humble bundle ideology and what EA offered as an indie product.

Beelzebud wrote on May 5, 2012, 15:49:
Are these games technically made by indie studios? Yeah, but that's not what people are pissed about here. It's EA brazenly using the "indie bundle" concept to turn a quick buck for themselves.

Technically, no they're not indie if EA is involved as a publisher. And that's what people are upset about. Not your assertion that EA attempted to cash in on the humble bundle craze by using indie bundle as a name for a group of games. The only thing you got right, and only that partially, is the fact that EA's attempting to cash in on the indie game craze.

You read it wrong. He's saying that, if Rage had been PC exclusive, it would have had a much smaller budget, and that he'd rather have the budget to realize his team's vision, even if it means a rough launch like this one.

You can agree or disagree, but at least read what he's saying before doing so.

Actually reverse that statement because you obviously read it wrong. What he said was if they'd been budgeted to expend the same dollar amount for the PC port, it would've been a comparable experience. Their design point was to create the game for consoles and the majority of their budget was used for the development of a console title and a small portion of the budget was spent on the PC port.

"A game built with a tenth the resources on a platform 10 times as powerful would be an inferior product in almost all cases"

So yes you can agree to disagree, but take your own advice and actually read the article.

Yeah those people haven't provided one example how EA violated their family or homes yet though I am just extremely pissed when people rant and rant without actually providing at least a proper anecdote.

Having your feelings insulted by imaginary moral values that are not met by a corporation (like thats a surprise ,p) is not a proper rant-reason. Nor is it an anecdote, or a logical non-flawed argument.

But i admit i was trolling this topic because i love poking at EA haters, they all will buy BF3 anyway (if they even remotely ever cared about Battlefield that is)

I don't hate EA, I own quite a few of their games, none of the FPS' since I really could care less about them. Now, since I made the mistake of buying those games through EADM (which is now Origin), and none of this data collection garbage was an issue at that time, I have to install Origin to even get access to them. Am I going to install Origin knowing that they're going to collect data on everything that I do on any of the systems it would be installed on? Um no. Would I care if the data collected was within the scope of the games they sell? Nope. But that's not the case.

26. It's still spyware... Aug 27, 2011, 22:03 Lesaonar

They tweaked a bit here and there but it still remains that they are gathering information outside of the scope they should be. They might not be selling the info, which I really could care less about, but they still are gathering information on everything you do on the system(s) Origin is installed on. They should be limiting the scope to the games sold over Origin/EADM. Anything broader and it's spyware by definition.
