Thanks for the reply Joss, do the manual patches work with the Steam version just out of curiosity? At any rate I'll prolly bite the bullet and snag it.
The patch also works with the Steam version.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

* ANY ORIGINAL VERSION OF ARMA 2 from 1.00 to 1.04 (including the Steam version, note that Verify file cache and autoupdate will not work properly until the full 1.05 is also out directly on Steam)

Also play the Eagle Wing mini-campaign. It's quite short but definitely worth playing thru, great atmosphere. Thumbsup

It's just the Hotfix for the new Mini-Campaign Eagle Wing, which is short but great. That's it.
The patches and some of the latest drivers made the game quite playable and enjoyable. It still has some bugs for sure but there is no other tactical shooter/milsim game that offers that much freedom to the player, besides the original OFP and ArmA1 of course.

The desert campaign from the first release might have been boring/not attractive for some, but the Normandy theater that came along with 2.2 is totaly different. The new maps are beautifull, tons of new equipment and so on. Nearly everything is as historically correct as possible. Only minor tweaks were made to keep it still fun. The BF2 engine has many limititations but the FH2 devs did one hell of a job to push it to the max with the new release.

Definitely worth a try.

Nice, going to download this later. Footage of the game looked promising. And this has the potential to fill that huge hole in my heart left by BF2...will there be another day where I can crash my jet into a blackhawk full of players? I hope so...
If you are just into this kind of gameplay style i guess you won't make many friends in ArmA2...

Great game for sure even with some bugs/flaws still present, still playing and loving it.

What would be really new, is the today released faction update for ArmA II on the official homepage.

The information from the interview is actually pretty poor, so it is hard to say what we can really expect in the official announcement on Monday.

A german games magazine page has some more details:

* Free Client
* Playable only thru Internet-Portal
* Comic-Look
* 3rdPerson only
* Preassigned chooseable character
* 3 Classes
* Level-System
* Financing thru ads and buyable items
* Low Hardware Requirements
* Open Betatest in Summer

There will be some kind of unlocks when you level up, all buyable items are only visual improvements but you can also buy XP to level up and unlock stuff without playing. The ads will be shown on the unavoidable internet portal and in the menus.

Classes are described as:

* Commando using stealth, is equiped with a sniperrifle but has low armour
* Soldier is tossing tons of grenades and is able to see thru walls
* Gunner is using explosives, has many hitpoints and can toss back grenades

Overall it seems like they try to mix up the look of the successfull TF2 with the casual gamingstyle of the successfull Nintendo Wii and try to finance the basic free game via ads and the successfull (mostly in asia) buyable items system...

Gamers will be able to buy items which customise their appearance in the world, but will not be able to seek an advantage through buying weapons.

This was already overwritten by the statement in the NY Times article...

Players can pay not only for decorative items like shoes and jerseys but also for boosts in their players’ speed, agility and accuracy. Mr. Florin said that while most users do not buy anything, a sizable minority ends up spending $15 to $20 a month.

So to stay in the competition you have to pay...

Now the patch is finaly available and it is exactly the same that was already posted by Jerry Hopper...wonder what Atari would have done if they found anything not working...sending it back or what?

But their new ArmA trailer with faked sounds or their ArmA Guide with stuff mentioned that is not in ArmA at all is just dissapointing.
Guide:

Trailer:

Note: The Trailer was made by Dslyecxi but the faked sounds were added by Atari!

I wonder why the included DirectX 9.0c that comes with the demo is dated December 2005...i mean if not the latest from June this year is in it could have been at least the one from April 2007.

To me it just looks like EA is trying to port their ingame add system from BF2142 to BF2.
The add billboards are scattered all over this desert map and look pretty misplaced. Who would advertise in the middle of nowhere? Also the viewdistance is extremly low on this map.
Maybe EA did not get enough customers with BF2142 for their ingame add contracs and now going to use BF2 also...who knows...

Edit:
SP and Coop are not supported.

@ xXBatmanXx

Try the CTF mission from the demo instead to get used to ArmA. The co-op mission is way to hard for beginners imo. In the demo co-op mission you can change your gear when double clicking your name on the notepad under 'group'and there should also be a weapons create next to the start location.
