I have to wonder how the Warhammer 40k universe can have so many people (in theory) if they die so rapidly, with nonstop combat seemingly throughout the galaxy.

I believe it's due to humans populating some 10,000 planets, so there are trillions of humans. Hive cities where 1 billion people live are common.

However, humanity IS on the decline though, due to nonstop attacks on all fronts from xeno (alien) species, mutants, and chaos.

The thing I didn't care for about Starpoint Gemini 2 wasn't the lack of content...but the lack of atmosphere. It just seemed so dull and lifeless, which is unfortunate, because far older games like Privateer were the exact opposite.

Is this something they addressed with this one?

These servers don't "rely on donations to keep the server running"...they are actually making exhorbinant amounts of money.

I remember a couple years ago one got shut down after it was realized that the server's owner was making $250,000 a MONTH running it.

I currently play on one off and on that runs multiple servers from multiple expansions, and I know they are easily making millions of dollars a year.

Is it theft? Well, they are profiting off of someone else's intellectual property...so yes.

When Blizzard serves them with papers, they shut down. Ironically, Blizzard rarely ever does however. (and when they do, they pop right back up under a different name a week later) So it's all properly just an exercise in futility.

I was a staff member of Nostalrius so I can tell you for a fact they were not making exorbitant amounts of money. In fact they made practical nothing. The server was a labor of love for the vanilla WOW community.

Don't worry, the support staff of the other servers were told the same thing. Free labor. Don't let it bother you.

I've been playing Stardew Valley with my 7 year old son for the past 3 weeks. It's been a nice break from Minecraft!

You should play The Culling with your 7 year old.

I actually bought the first one, found out you couldn't even remap your keys, and promptly asked for a refund.

Their developer is incompetent, will never buy another game from them.

If you can't get 101 stuff right, get out of the business.

I have been having a blast playing The Culling. It is one of the most intense games I've played in a very long time. Not for the feint of heart though, you have to be really good to survive a 16 player FFA. If you're below average or average in skill, might not be a good buy for you, but still fun to watch on www.twitch.tv

Remember, just because it's Master of Orion, doesn't mean it is a "must buy". Moo 1 and 2 were fantastic, 3 was atrocious. Have to wait and see which this ends up being.

Moo3 had real-time combat

Yeah, and that's a perfect fucking reason why the new one shouldn't.

The devs said they plan to improve space combat.

Real time combat? Oh, come on! That was an asinine decision. People have every right to be upset.

There are other space sims that have real time combat, but a Master of Orion game shouldn't have been one of them.

The early access version is quite polished. I've played 200+ turns so far. Reminds me of MoO2 but with much better graphics.

Does it have a ridiculous amount of micromanagement like MoO2 did?

I loved MoO1, much simpler, but effective.

What the hell? Increase fees to reduce transactions as a solution?

I'm not a Bitcoin expert, but I've read several articles about this situation and it definitely appears to be critical time for Bitcoin. It will be interesting to see where it all ends up...

I don't think they are saying fees should be increased to reduce transactions, they are saying if you want your transaction to be a priroity, then pay a higher fee. If you want your transaction to be free, then be prepared to wait longer.

Both sides make good points about the blocksize limit, so you're right, it's going to be an interesting couple of months.

I tried to play Tie Fighter again recently, but I can't find any joysticks like the Kraft KC-3 for modern day systems. Everything is ultra complicated, this game just needed a simple stick.

He has every right to be pissed.

No he doesn't. The new Star Wars movie is one of the biggest cinematic events in the last 2 decades. Whether you like it or not, this is fact. Of course it's going to take priority over...literally anything else. Tarantino was stupid to release his movie at the same time, most people aren't even aware it's coming out, that's how overshadowed it is. His own ego backfired.

Does this game still have a skill cap that takes roughly 3,600 hours to hit? It is simply unattainable unless 16 hours a day of your entire life is devoted to it.

That's the only reason I don't play it. I preferred games like UO where it took quite a bit of effort to reach skill cap, but was still doable for most people. I like a somewhat level playing field where skill matters more than time spent grinding.

I am obsessed with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare. I will play it and go 10-0 in duels, go 10-0 in duels again, go 10-0 in duels again, go 9-1 due to some BS, and ragequit "permanently" by deleting all trace of local content.

But with the damn game sitting in my library, it just keeps tempting me. I've deleted it "for good"...only to later reinstall it at least 25 times.

Thank god they finally gave us the option to remove it from our library. Perhaps making me pay money for it over and over will finally help me kick this addiction.

Haven't had this problem since Ultima Online, hopefully won't have it again.

Whenever I hear about how great/classic System Shock is, it is always System Shock 2. *literally almost never the 1st*

Why are they remaking the 1st instead?

5. Meh, pointless. Nov 11, 2015, 21:42 JohnBirshire

I played on a World of Warcraft free server that was making over $500,000 a month in "donations". After years of doing it, Blizzard sued them for a massive amount of money.

End result? They closed the server, paid Blizzard nothing, laid low for a couple months, then reopened the server under a different name.

Back to making millions, Blizzard has never bothered to try again.

This stuff isn't an effective deterrent whatsoever.
