So dumping 1 million to Valve for a three year old game that still has to go through a lengthy development period for conversion by a third party developer with complete over site by valve is a good investment? Tell that to Gearbox with Halo for the PC. Apple knows that third party ports never do as well as having the original company make the game, and Mac sales would not really increase much for Half-Life 2. What mac gaming needs is a hot new IP that isn't old hat for the rest of the world, or something developed for the mac at the same time as the PC/consoles. Dumping 1 million to valve wouldn't be a great investment.

Not if you don't think you will get 1 million back in your share of sales...

Oh hell no. They still haven't delivered on patching the First Decade. Now they want us to buy a new pack with one extra game? Guess we know why they stopped patching The First Decade. So when the C&C3 expansion comes out, do we get another pack? Stop milking our money and fix what you have already sold us.

Bridge Construction Set is an older game I used to play the hell out of. It used to be named Potifex I believe.

Good luck with that Pirate Bay lawsuit there buddy....

And taking down Ebay auctions? Are they auctions of pirated material or is he keeping people from selling their music used.

Not Microsofts fault in this case. Read it again. What they are saying is that Directx 10 enabled games guarantee that your system meets specific high end requirements that can handle the load. If you have directx 9 your hardware may not be able to handle the load. As such this is not a Directx 9 limitation, but rather the company is using directx as a indicator for your machines capability and giving the higher machines a full featured playground free of lower end machines that may not be able to handle the load.

This really has nothing to do with DirectX Version limitations...

What's unfortunate is that there isn't a better way to implement this reliably... In all fairness, games that upload your system specs are usually met with consumer bitching about spy ware so making the limitation via directx is understandable.

Here is what I don't get...

If you are interested in HL episode 2 and TF2 then most likely you have already purchased HLII and EP 1. Sure you can give away your keys to a friend, but then, if that friend doesn't already own them, then they haven't been interested in the last three years and probably still are not interested... Say they do become interested, isn't it a bloody waste for them to get the two free keys off you when they can go out and get the orange box and have everything? Sure, you got two free games, but if you suddenly are interested, then your going to want epII to have a complete experiance, right? So you buy your orange box, and because you got your friends free keys... you now have two keys to try to push on someone who hasn't given a shit in the last three years... Suddenly, I'm smelling a whole lot of wasted, pointless keys under the banner of give to your friends...

Myst Uru plays nothing like the Myst you remember. And the online version is quite a social place.

Starforce would probably not work in the gametap code as you don't run an installation on the individual programs. They are downloaded ready to play and encoded on your HD. I love my gametap, best investment I have ever made gaming wise.

The problem with steam is that it is a success. Now EA is getting in the game with EA Link. Great, more bloatware running in the background stealing my RAM. Steam takes up my resources. Now other companies want in on the pie and they want to steal my resources. I know some of you like your 50 little icons on your tray but some of us like to use that ram for games. Silly Idea, that whole not having useless crap running in background. Steam running in background, DL updates to stuff while I'm playing a game means I'm losing bandwidth and ram. How can this be considered a bad thing. Not to mention Steam resists you telling it to not start up with your PC. I tried to like Steam... I guess I'd feel better if buying off steam got me a cheaper price than if I bought the disk in store but even that didn't really happen.

So they are giving away stuff that if you don't have by now you most likely didn't care anyway and stuffing Steam (free download already) into video drivers thus adding the extra step of allowing or disallowing the steam install for video driver installation.

"I'd like to state for the record judge, No, we at Valve are not sleeping with those members of ATI, it was just a one night stand."

Next you will have to log on to steam to verify and update your video drivers LOL

I'd love to purchase by steam, but so far they are the only online retailer who refuses my debit card.
