I don't have the game yet, so it may very well suck as bad as some of the reviewers make it out to be.
That being said, is it possible to review this game properly? Does anyone remember
Exile on Main Street from the Rolling Stones? (yes it was out before I was born) That album got horrible reviews when it came out, mostly because it sounded nothing like "classic" Stones. Over time though people and critics decided that this was the best album the Stones ever did and probably one of the best albums ever made (something the Stones anticipated - the
Exile in the title was part of their plan).
So perhaps the critics all pan
MOO3, but as months and years go by perhaps the hidden genius of the game will come out. Plus remember that for the most part the review infrastructure of today wasn't in place in 1995 or 1996 when
MOO2 came out - perhaps that game would have gotten panned, too. This may be why, even though the game went gold early last month, the release date wasn't until now.
Remember though that any average person on message boards couldn't have been playing this game for more than a day.
Or perhaps its that critics want to jump on the "it took a long time so it sucks" bandwagon (
Daikatana,
Battlecruiser 3000AD, etc.). Sometimes its justified. I'm curious what PC Gamer has to say - their reviews are usually pretty good.
