Well I for one have not only listened to the album, but bought it as well (it's $9.99 at Best Buy for chrissakes). I like it. No, it's not Metallica pre-1992. No, it's not Metallica 1992-2002. It's like Metallica Phase III. Have a listen to it and for just an hour or so, pretend like you're not trying to compare it to previous Metallica.
Plus a lot of people on here seem to want Metallica to go away or die or lose or something. OK, but why? Do you realize what the alternatives are? Boy bands, Britney Spears, J-Lo and that Nu Metal shit. This new Metallica record is trying to revive hard edged heavy metal and I for one am all for it. I don't have a problem with those other forms of music I mentioned existing, but I don't want that to be all there is.
Of course it occurs to me that a lot of people on this thread (with the exception of those guys who said they were thirty) aren't very old - so they like that Nu Metal stuff that's going around. Same reason I love The Black Album - it was out when I was in High School. So no, these guys aren't probably going to like
St. Anger. Oh well.
As for the old timers - Cliff's dead, Newsted's gone, this is Metallica III. No, it's not the Second Coming but it's a nice hard album to listen to. I'll take that over Staind/Trapt/Linkin/Bizkit any day.
