The point is that Unreal 2 either didn't sell too well or that sales leveled off - they hope they can spur more interest with a MP mode.

Actually my idea was something similar - every time you see someone annoying, send Blue a dollar asking that he remove the person's account. Enough money and the person gets booted.

Of course there's problems with that plan...

Yeah from what I understand it's an attempt by the Tribes community to make a game like Tribes 2 but with more Tribes (1) elements. I think Sierra threatened legal action against them, despite the non-commercial nature of the game. If what you say is true then they haven't been too successful yet.

I dunno - I played it earlier tonight and it's damnned impressive looking "in the flesh" - not sure why the screenies don't do it justice.

But yeah it's pretty standard deathmatch. The big thing you see in the shots is this laser thing which fucks you up good, but between shots there's a berserker powerup - and the screaming you do when you have it is downright freaky.

Yeah, standard deathmatch with a few twists but it's really good looking.

I worked for a Babbage's (GameStop) about three years ago. Basically Babbage's has (or had) a very leniant takeback policy - they'd take back anything within seven days. This meant of course that some people would buy something, go home to copy it (or just play it to death for seven days) and then bring it back. But then there were people who couldn't get it to work. With PC titles it was a crapshoot - sometimes it would be a legit problem with the game or the install media - often times though it would be simply a defective user - someone who didn't know what the heck they were doing. Our undocumented policy in the store was to take any PC game back, re-seal it, and put it back out. If it came back a second time then we'd send it back to the mother ship.

Note that this didn't apply to console games - their seals would be broken and therefore unsellable. Plus people brought them back less often since consoles are mostly idiot proof.

Also, any game involving a CD Key of any sort (Quake 3, Half-Life) or a subsctription (EQ, UO) was unreturnable.

Really though, if the game store has to get rid of any copy of any game sold and returned then it just results in higher prices for everyone involved. If they sold you something defective, take it back. If the registration card is missing, demand a new one. But if nothing's wrong with it and you're furious that someone else may have played your copy before you, get over it.

According to a posting by Darcy Pajak on BioWare's new forums for Hordes of the Underdark, there will be over 200 new feats...

So lots and lots more of the same

Yeah I'll buy it too...

Cancelling it now, I just don't see how that WINS them any money.

Either it wasn't really close to completion, or they figured the costs of making it wouldn't make it worth it.

Let's say (hypothetically) that the game costs $1000 to develop, and it takes $300 to manufacture it and put it in stores. Let's say it sells really bad - only pulls in $200. Then the publisher is out $1100 - whereas they would be out $1000 if they had just buried it (less if it wasn't finished). And when you're struggling as a company under shareholders, these are the calls you get to make.

This is what happened with Dreamcast Half-Life (egged on of course by the fact that the Dreamcast had been discontinued).

Outlaw Josey Wales: Torrent files are used by BitTorrent, a program which allows you to download not from a central server, but rather from the other people who are downloading it. The result of all of this is that now the most popular and largest files become the easiest to get, not the hardest. It's not spyware or anything funky and it's even open source.

Perhaps I'm too young, but wasn't Jaws 3-D just Jaws 3 in 3-D? I remember seeing it on video and the opening underwater scene was the kind that would be perfect for the obligatory "dangle something right in front of the audience" shot you see in 3-D movies. So was it that Jaws 3 was really bad or that being in 3-D somehow made it worse? Or have I got this wrong?

What's more shocking? That they're still making a PSOne version of the game, or that there's no Game Boy Color version? They almost had as many ports of this one as they did of the last Harry Potter game.

And how humiliating for Mac users - they don't even get a port. You know, while I'm at it, if Linux users ever want their OS to go mainstream they need to be pestering EA, not Bioware.

Actually WTF were they thinking? Was BeOS ever viable?

4 Player deathmatch? Please. That sucks donkey.
Not neccessarily, if done right. And remember what Willtis said post-QuakeCon last year - the engine can do more than 4 easy, so mod makers go nuts.

Ofcourse, the fact that every other day there is another "windows critical" patch shows that despite their Trusted Computing broohaha, they still don't know jack shit about security.

I never understand why people complain about this. It used to be that MS would never patch critical system flaws in a timely fashion - now they patch most of them before we hear about them. Their Trusted Computing bit is to make everything work the way it's supposed to, and largely the way it's not working already - be glad they're not making the changes to future OS' only.

Sure, the best thing would be to have come out with an OS that never had the problems to begin with, but get over it.

I don't think I've ever heard of that before.

IIRC, Team Arena did it, as well as Mysteries of the Sith (Jedi Knight (1))

...if Unreal II had been an Xbox exclusive, would people have cried foul? I mean they usually do if/when a sequel to a PC game is destined for a console.

Then again Obi-Wan did the same thing and people complained - until they played it. Then they were happy it didn't grace the PC.

So which is worse? Obi-Wan or Unreal II?
