How is it that so many devs manage to do things this way? Do they not actually play the games they make? Console port is not a good enough excuse, either.
Well in this case it's a Japanese console developer, and was made for the Japanese market. They're a little different than us - they love RPG's, Resident Evil and loathe FPS's and GTA3 (though bafflingly GTA3 is selling well over there).

Carmack put it best when he was referring to why their console designers never listen to his advice on graphic chip design: "They're sitting on a big pile of billions of dollars that say that they're right and you're wrong."

I've heard that my ISP (Comcast) sends you a nasty letter when you go over a certian untold limit. Since I download gigabytes per week, I can only imagine what the people who get that letter must be doing...

A SimCasino game. Actually, that's not a bad idea - too bad the title's use of dollar signs takes away some of the credibility. Anyone played this? Any good?

And wasn't there a Casino Tycoon or something at some point?

I know this is a bad question since it's not on PC yet, but as much as I love PC RPG's like NWN and its ilk, I like a good console RPG too. I'm also big on the "original platform" idea. However, I hear KOTOR suffers from bugs (like not letting you save sometimes). So - should I get KOTOR on Xbox or PC?

yeah because we know the money is with the handful of ultra-hardcore players who upgrade for every single new game. Who wants the cash of those millions upon millions of unsuspecting casual PC users who like Golf and recognize Tiger Woods.

What was EA thinking? Next thing you know they'll release a SIMS expansion pack. Seven times.

And yes, I did just feed a troll

Wait - how did they over hype it? They kept it secret for five years. They just showed some movies of gameplay. No print ads. No "make you their bitch". No purported second coming. It was goingg to be Holiday 2003 and now it's delayed because of asshats. Except for the source code and Steam nightmares, this is a textbook case on how to not overhype something.

My guess is that the notions of "a third" or "a small portion" are either:

1) A lie to keep people at bay, since I've seen plenty of posts from people on Slashdot saying it compiles.

2) A quote from people at VU who don't understand the difference between "source code" and "game assets". Indeed the source code may only be a third of the deal, but it's the whole tree.

yeah it was a budgetware title that sold pretty well apparently, probably because the show is still so fanatically popular (it's in like it's sixteenth season or something). It kills me because I never thought I'd see the day when that old fart cop (Lenny Brisco I think his character's name is) done up as a 3-D model in a game. I guess we should be glad they didn't go all Enter the Matrix and make it an FMV game.

Let me preface by saying that at the outset, the Battlecruiser 3000AD game was one who you really really wanted to pull for - independent developer, ambitious title, perserverence, etc. But either I never "got" BC3K or it really was just a crap game, even after the patches.

Having said that, I notice how one of his games - I think it was the original Battlecruiser Millenium - was an "EB Exclusive". What really happened was that Smart self published the title and EB was the only retailer willing to talk to him. True, an ambitious and independent move - but it's just like him to spin his shortcomings into "features".

Really though I'd still pull for him (hell, I pull for John Romero) were it not for his arrogance, his lone photo, and that he got his PhD he brags about from a degree mill.

Am I the only one who's been unable to keep up with how many Battlecruiser games there are? Seems the first one took like eight years to complete - now they come out faster than slasher movies.

will be renamed from Battlecruiser Generations to Universal Combat

Translation: Let's get rid of the stigma of this title that won't sell

The story describes plans for a new degree of user-friendliness and a revised focus on action over complex simulation that will accompany the name change, all intended to broaden the project's appeal.

Translation: Either Derek Smart has decided to hell with it and he wants to be paid, or he's off the project.

Compare it to Neverwinter Nights. Specifically, how is this better than any of the other D&D/AD&D adventures converted to NWN?

Go!

well look at the dozens of patches to the Purge demo. These guys are former mod authors and no one minds if a mod has dozens of patches or little beta patches. I repsect them for being able to pull off as much as they did - they went from a mod team to a full retail product. If nothing else there's the sentimental favorite.

And to think I would have continued to ignore Purge had it not dropped to $2.99. Now all I need to do is to go try to play it...

I think they are actually getting rid of Purge, that's why it is $2.99.
Actually if you go to www.purgeworld.net and hit up the forums, the developers there were never told or informed of the dramatic price drop, and the general consenus there is that Tri Synergy, the publisher, is incompetent. Curiously the price change is only at EB and Tri Synergy is made up of former EB execs.

Purge can be had at EB for $2.99 - I know, I walked into one and got it. Now there's a free add-on for it.

Now I haven't played it worth a damn, but the three people online have always been friendly.

Thank you Radon Labs for clearing up the delay of Schwarzenberg. Now I think I speak for all Blue's News readers when I ask: "who the fuck are you and what the fuck is Schwarzenberg?"

Yeah yeah I know, Project Nomads...
