A launched product isn't what identifies a product as a killer app. The only condition is "any computer program that is so necessary or desirable that it proves the core value of some larger technology, such as computer hardware." The fact the Index sold out last year, and numerous other VR devices had their sales boosted, and the fact that Valve warns the device will likely sell out on Monday is PROOF it remains a killer app.
And if it flops? "Half-Life: Alyx, the killer app no one owned, that was a killer app till someone was able to run it, which then tanked the VR market is THE killer app for VR!"
That makes sense.
Edit: BTW, I've seen more than one recent article, not just the one I quoted in that thread, refer to HL:A as a *possible* killer app. Not one yet.
