Can someone tell me if the lipsync is really that bad? I'm staying away from trailers, as I've already pre-ordered and don't want any spoilers.

Can you compare them to some other game?

Bioware used Frostbite to make that last Dragon Age game, and there wasn't any lip sync issues there... perhaps it's the new version of Frostbite that's an issue? Or just incompetent devs?

If it's like that FFXV KingsGlaive movie, I'm going to be dissapoint. That movie had the best CG I've ever seen in my life, but somehow they still fucked up the lipsync, it was awful.

I played the first night before reading any of this controversy and nothing in those first 3 hours jarred me. I've now played 7 hours and there was one conversation where the facial animations resembled the comparison video from the other Blue's article. Guy just looked like he had way too much coffee and couldn't work his face and his eyes were locked at wide open.

The animations from ME1, which they used in that vid, were looped mo-cap animations. So while they looked great you would also eventually spot the same head nods, eyebrow raises, hand-on-hip movements over time. I don't see that kind of thing happening in this game.

Here's some positives: The environments on 4K HDR are fucking amazing. Maps are huge, so now you actually explore when you're on a mission. The combat and class skill system is fun as hell. Combat is WAY more deadly than any ME game before. Hardcore (the setting above normal) is kicking my ass on the first real mission. There's an interesting unlock system, which I wont spoil.. and there's actual crafting. Also I'm getting better frame rates than I was expecting, despite that the game ready drivers aren't out yet.

I'm not going to judge the story when I've only played what I feel is about 2% of the game. If it goes to complete shit along the way, I'm willing to gamble that, but so far it's actually had a few cool moments. I'm intrigued by one of the side quests I'm on and it's one of the first ones you get. Small spoiler --> involving a saboteur.

So yeah.. that's my take.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/03/14/mass-effect-andromeda-review-opening-hours/ I'm just gonna leave this here.. Now excuse me while I go cancel my pre-order.

Seriously, BioWare. What the fuck. "Learned a lot from Inquisition", huh.
That better be one huge day0 patch.

A reply to that article -

Any spoilers are mild at best. I didn't catch any specific story moments (I did skim some parts).

There's not too many SP focused RPG makers out there that can claim they have MP that's worth a damn. I don't ever expect anything great from these, but ME3's was surprisingly good.

Kind of regret never giving DA:I's a chance back when it prob had a decent player base.

Whatever Andromeda has it's just icing as far as I'm concerned (assuming the cake's good).

ooooh nOOOOOOO this has HDR on PC!? ALREADY?

Goddamnit, I need a new monitor/tv, I really don't want to wait to play this game though... fawkkkkk

The Samsung UN49KS8000 is serving me well. They improved the PC mode's latency in a firmware update (so don't go completely by early reviews). I don't even notice lag, but I did in PC mode when I first got it. It's as good, if not really close, to game mode, and I get 4:4:4 chroma this way while gaming.

This TV's game mode is the lowest latency of all the current HDR tv's. It's also one of the brightest. Only downsides are no display port, and it's edge lit. Doesn't end up being that big a deal, imo.

Then again those upcoming gsync monitors look pretty spiffy too.

From Relay-to-Relay is near instantaneous. From "ME: Revelation":

"...instantaneously traversing thousands of light years."

So for the record, Andromeda is 2.5 million light years, divided by 634 years = 3943 light years distance a year. So not thousands instantaneously, but the ships ftl at a slower rate. The gates are massively powerful. Also, we don't know the ship doesn't automatically break out of FTL to discharge in some manner. I know normal ships can't do this, but we don't know everything about the Arks ...yet? EDIT Forgot to add - if true the process probably takes much longer than is practical for a crew not in stasis.

It's all good man, relax.. enjoy the game...

Last I checked (quite a while ago) the combat was resolved using a draw-random-cards-from-a-deck system. So immersive.

Just reminiscing here, but the second best thing about PS:T were the spells. Some of them were like mini-movies. I usually play warrior types in RPG's, but I always go mage for a PS:T play through.

Looking forward to playing through Tides in the not too distant future...

Agreed. But it was more fun the harder it was. There's a lot of content you don't see if you don't die a bunch.

Really? I try to play most games without dying. Died on my first main run, started over and completed it without dying on the second.. I'd always progress time from a tower though before ending a game session. Figured that did the same thing for the orcs...

And for some reason I just can't bring myself to play through the dlc even though I enjoyed the main game. I'm usually completionist when it comes to that stuff.

My *only* complaint is the ragdolling I've seen in various videos (not just this one) seems way too "light". Like the bodies have no... sorry but it really is the right word to use here... no mass to them. Maybe it'll look better in the actual game.

That was awesome. It's not TOO light on story. In fact, I found the story in this one more interesting. But yeah, the action is insanely good with a nice dose of dry humor (sometimes played out during the action).

Anyone else hyped about the Sony OLED A1E? I think I'm going to pick one up. 65" OLED, with sony's supposedly legendary motion handling? fuck yeah.

Just looked it up... the screen is the speaker?? Woah.

I'll probably hold off one more year still, but OLED looks to be coming along nicely (finally).
