Such environment effects include changes in gravity, fuel consumption, physics, sensor range, and visibility.
I are downloading, last space game I played was wing commander: prophecy.

Quake doesn't have points on the map to capture
It does have powerful items that respawn in certain parts of the map. If you can control these areas, you have an advantage over your opponent. Rather similar, except Quake offers a tangible reason for map control versus Battlefield's seemingly arbitrary setup (note that I only played the BF2 demo).

It doesn't have classes that have different weapons
Since Quake is much more 1v1-centric than BF, this is probably a good thing (or not?). More importantly to me, Quake has much more diverse weapons which mean that players can master both 'normal' aim and 'prediction' aim (see rockets and hyperblaster, but especially rockets).

I assume that infantry combat in BF is largely about headshotting the other guy before he can headshot you . . . and this is why I think Quake has much more depth.

it doesn't have vehicles
Is it not usually easier to kill people when you are in a vehicle?

and it doesn't have a commander
yet coordination is the most important thing in a Team DeathMatch. I guess team mates do not need a commander when they have chat macros and teamspeak.

Apologies if my response sucks, I am le tired

Actually Jerykk I agree with what you say only in reverse. Anyone can play Quake. Not everyone can play the Battlefield Series.

Just curious - do you know what strafejumping is?

Also, why do you say this? I feel that Quake's item control + advanced movement + projectile weapons are quite unforgiving.

I stand with Jerykk.

Not sure, but I think I read that there were 10 levels, and in some focus tests people spent upwards of 2 hours playing through a single level. Sounds OK to me (assuming that the game will have great replay value like far cry does).

10 maps does seem a bit low, but I agree that some of Far Cry's 20 maps did drag.

edit: I think some dude from the ubi forum rang up a grand total of 2.5 hours of gameplay for a speedrun of Far Cry on realistic difficulty. It was nuts

I think you could move while using ironsights if you held shift. I think.

Also I remember the sounds seeming lacking, compared to COD2.

I mean, COD2 had more open combat environments (though being strictly linear more or less), if I remember correctly.

Developed for PC and X360. RPG/FPS game, screens remind me of Far Cry with a black market and NPCs.

Did Boiling Point ever get cleaned up by patches? Game looks OK, nothing very interesting or promising (to me).

in the demo at least, dropping in anywhere was cool but once you got on the ground the scripting kicked in and enemies seemed only to appear once you got to a certain area/objective. Also if I remember correctly there was only one way in/out of an objective. big jaded meh. I also thought the weapon upgrades were dumb, but that is more subjective I imagine.

World in Conflict: I tried the demo on a whim (I do not care too much for RTS games) and was really impressed.

If (when) the in-game ads come, I would rather see the 'real' ads in the menus and loadscreens. Once I am in the game, I would rather take cover behind a fizzy cola truck than a coca-cola truck.

Prince of Persia was pretty cool but I had trouble with the camera and the combat added nothing. Meh.

Hey AEon, are you the same AEon who did AEcanyon? Hi. What engine(s) are you mapping for these days?

Compared to COD2, this was OK. COD2 had better audio and was more immersive (though this is just a demo).

Although you could land anywhere, the combat felt scripted to a certain extent and also the environments felt fairly walled-in Also I think the weapon upgrade system is kind of silly. meh

I read on the arstechnica forums that the wacom drivers do not play nicely with Bioshock. Or at least, that worked for one person (uninstalling the tablet and waiting for patch, that is). I am too lazy to link.

err what Ray?
Bioshock is definitely GotY, hands down, an instant classic, and easily one of the best games ever made.

I do not see myself replaying it, though. I feel safe in saying that I found a good 99% of everything in the game

When I think of game of the year, I think of a game that is simply fun to play, even on the fourth playthrough. (for me, games like Painkiller, Far Cry and STALKER)

wic_demo.exe fails the unzipping when it gets to some d3dx10 file (I am windows XP . . .)

Anyways, trying wic_demo_us.exe from filefront and will see if that works.

So Jerykk, are you going to start a new game huh huh?

I am glad to see a new patch (even if no freeplay mode :() and I am glad there is no fast travel.

I think there is a freeplay mod that allows you to return to pripyat from the NPP, and also removes the blowout countdown at the NPP. I need to find that after class.

Anybody using the latest release of float32? Is it still buggy (shadowing bugs?) I think I am still using 1.5267a (which only has minor visual weirdness with barbed wire and camo nets), but I am going to try disabling it to compare 1.4 with float32 mod. I read somewhere that parts of float32 are the rumored 'shader improvements' in the patch.

Why did you not wait and just see how Bioshock runs on the X800? I think you were just looking for an excuse to upgrade . . . immediately
