For all this talk about veilguard sucking, consider that steam reviews have it at 69%, inquisition is at 75%, or only 6% more. Then you have to consider how many of those 31% negative reviews are purely political bias, it is seeming like there is a lot of bullshit going on and the audience for the game at large is being deceived.

Seems that people that are highly into the franchise thought it was absolute trash, people who have fucking stupid political biases thought it was trash, and casuals are just fine with it.

My work chat goes absolutely nuts with all the talk about the latest tentpole games on their release days, as the entire company tends to play most of the big games.

THere was one post about veilguard, and it was "Veilguard is ass, isn't it?" with about 180 thumbs up reactions.

Surgeon Simulator goes back to 1996 or 1997, ya douchebags.

IBM had it originally... which made NO FREAKING SENSE AT ALL

The original STALKER, with it's what, 6 years of delays, was one of the most underwhelming games ever, blah.

I wonder if she'd never smoked, how much different multiplayer gaming would be now, or at least how much faster it would've progressed?

Let's be real -- it's impossible, in the existing System Shock 2 configuration, to even configure it to have reasonable modern controller/keyboard support. How the *fk* are they going to VR it?

My suspicion, having witnessed various actions from all of these companies first hand, though not related to this matter directly, is this:

(keep in mind, this is a suspicion) HH went bankrupt a long time ago. Bethesda was keeping them afloat long enough to finish out their contracts, so that they could get all of the assets of the studio. Once the game hit the ship date, HH folded, and Bethesda took over.

Why would they do this? That I'm less sure of. My suspicion there is that they wanted both some bit or large quantity even of HH's IP, as well as the developers. What they didn't take, was HH's management, much of whom had already fled well before the Rune 2 release. So, they got a bunch of medium tier developers, and some IP, and I think didn't they also get the office? So, no need to actually do any work to setup their own studio in the area?

I may be completely off my rocker here, but I am basing this on what I believe to be likely based on things I've witnessed them do in the past.

HAHAHA

We don't have enough time to finish the game. We have about 10 months of work left. So let's just delay 5 months, burn out our developers, and still end up releasing the game too early.

Exactly what I was trying to say, but I said with a lot more foul language, because I've been a gamedev. I might have to return to it, too, now that I'm unemployed. ugh.

While nobody wants to crunch.... and crunch shouldn't be planned.... and it does show bad planning....

There's a difference between constant crunch and wrap-up crunch.

.... 5 months of crunch time, most likely. This means they fucked up, and fucked up big, and are going to continue fucking up for that 5 months, because if you have to do that, you're fucking up.

With the absolute garbage quality of most software that is turning out these days, this bullshit is inexcusable.

Developers are not an infinite resource, and they are *HUMAN*. You can't treat them like this.
Well, you can, but the results are .. well, we see the results in all the shit software we use, and the number of game devs that burn out of the industry completely.

While Human Head has had some pretty questionable practices in dealings with publishers in the past, I have significant doubts of any of this being intentionally malicious. They probably saw the end of the work they were being paid for coming, and needed more money to come in.

I'm quite familiar with many of the people who worked at HH, and I'm glad they all continue to have jobs.

Wait. If they're closing, and they're the publisher, who's getting the money? Epic?

The management I imagine. Bethesda didn't buy the Rune IP and they also didn't buy Human Head, they just hired all the employees to help start a new studio from scratch that they wholly own.

This was clearly something they planned to do for a long time. I thought the whole point of Epic exclusivity bribes was to provide financial cushioning so devs didn't have to risk going under if their game didn't sell. That's what both Sweeney and several devs have said. On top of this, their Twitter statement said the game has exceeded their day one sales expectations. Big deals with Bethesda don't happen overnight so this really looks like the management just took as much money as they could, shoved the game out the door and are now bailing out with the riches. Anyone who wants to see this game on consoles or something not the Epic store, don't count on it.

They claim the game will continue to get support but don't lay out how that's going to work when none of the employees work for the company any more and Bethesda's not going to want them spending time on their payroll supporting a game they don't own. If I were anyone who bought this rushed mess, I'd refund it and wait to see if they actually do step up and support it. If they do, buy it again.

It's probably likely that they had publishers paying their bills for the last few years while Rune II was in dev.

... so they ran a "open beta" last week? Either the least buggy beta ever, or not really a beta. Probably just really *now* entering beta.
