12 years to dev the first of 4 episodes? ... so we'll have the rest of it by 2050 or so?

I had picked up a copy of 1 and 2 at a thrift shop a while back, and was testing them out, to see if they worked, so I could resell them (because apparently they are slightly valuable) . . . good god, what awful, terrible games. I could not believe how awful they were.

> Its totally believable something like this could have gone undetected. Its easy to write code albeit wrong that compiles and throws no errors.

If the development was rushed they may have cut out the unit tests or quality assurance testing. The other thought is maybe the code being called was a stub/placeholder and they forgot to update the configuration file.

unit testing was pretty much unheard of in games when I last worked in the industry, 5 years ago, around the time this game came out. Maybe the really big studios had done some work with test driven stuff, but for almost everyone then, and I'd assume now still, writing tests is likely considered a waste of time, if it doesn't end up in the shipping product, it doesn't get written.

it was most definitely a typo. It was a misspelling of a word in a class name.

I bet that Epic makes some changes to how obvious INI file errors are in future releases of Unreal

I think 1 and 3 were the best, and 2 pretty much sucked. I can't remember why I thought 2 sucked, I just hated it.

I'm excited for this. Serious Sam is like cooler Duke Nukem.

Let me know when they fix the ass awful graphics, the ass awful sound effects, and figure out that the devs have absolutely no idea what they are doing, and why no one has created this game before them.

Rogue Legacy was awesome, I am going to have to give this a look.

I swore I read this twice and read "Full Metal Furries", though.

Lot of really strong opinions here.
I don't think I'd like the game, but I'm not going out of my way to call all involved idiots.

Just starting the game, you can tell the devs have no clue.

The developers of this game are absolutely rank amateur, and do not understand the technological reasons why no one has bothered to make this game before. Those technological reasons have not been solved, and they don't know the first thing about solving them.

This game is utter shit, it runs like utter shit, it looks like utter shit, it sounds like utter shit, and they are being handsomely rewarded for turning out utter shit.

Because this sounds like the holy grail of FPS online gaming . . but it's just a pile of shit.

Re: Action Center

Open it, turn on "Quiet Mode", forget it exists. If you can't forget it exists, install Actual Window Manager, and replace the Windows taskbar. (you'll still need to turn on Quiet Mode though, to prevent the Action Center from popping up unnecessarily all the f'ing time)

The multiplayer was just a shitshow, but the single player game was the most adrenaline packed experience i've had in a very long time, it was awesome.

They should Kickstart a new game and fund the lawsuit.

We all knew DH wouldn't succeed.

They're crowd funding their legal action. It's not going well.

lol...
They don't have my sympathy.

Their crowdfunding is costing them far more than it's netting them. People are donating the smallest amount possible and then issuing chargebacks through their card company, which is costing them like $25 a pop.

That's kinda funny, but also fraudulent use of the chargeback capability, which could be a felony.

25. Re: PC DOOM Sells 1M Aug 10, 2016, 15:17 The Magician

But how much playtime does anyone have on it?

I played the final test release to see how the multiplayer was, and that convinced me that I will never buy anything from id without playing it first. I own everything else id has ever made, and have bought it all on release day, since Doom 2.

The new Doom I will not purchase, unless maybe when it ends up in the $5 or less bin. They fucked up the best thing about Doom so hard that they have decided to make a new Quake game to make up for it.

I'm definitely buying Doom for the single player experience. I don't need a poor Quake game for multiplayer, though.

There are no more multiplayer games that I like.

9. Re: Street Fighter V Rage Quit Punishment Coming Feb 28, 2016, 02:19 The Magician

Sure, I've seen a lot of games that give the person who remains connected a win.. but a large number of games who fail to credit the disconnected person with a loss. I play a lot of Magic these days, and the current Magic games just have an AI take over against whatever player remains. If it's a network issue, and you both end up disconnected, you can both lose or both win!

So, it turns out, that the Magic player data is actually stored locally. It's utterly amazing that there's not massive rampant cheating on it.

IMO, CapCom hasn't done anything I'd give money to since Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition. I've been done with them since then.

why is this is difficult? quit = loss, end of story. you get disconnected, well thats your own fault for having shitty internet.

I can't think of any game that has successfully even bothered to implement any protection against players quitting. It's absolutely freaking ridiculous that these things aren't accounted for from the beginning of *every* game's network design.

It's ABSOLUTELY FKING RIDICULOUS.

A lot of games "solution" is to just prevent you from doing Alt-F4. LOL. As if that stops anything.

More ridiculous? They apparently don't have logs of this. They want everyone to video record the instances.

AMATEUR developers. Not even amateurs. Amateurs would log every event that happens. These guys are *below* amateur.
