Epic isn't failing and it's not even close, it will likely be here in one form or another after everyone here that has posted has died and moved on from this mortal life. Tim Sweeney is estimated to have a net worth of over 7 billion and still owns about 30% of Epic which has an average gross revenue of 6 billion a year and is projected to hit 7 billion by 2025 based on Statisca's model which would also match its trend for the last 4 years.

The move to layoff 16% of its employees' mostly from recent investments by Epic considered not to be (core development) at best will save Epic roughly 72 million in the first year and upwards to 144 million every year after as long as they never hire a single person ever again and no new employee expenses occur, unlikely as people will get promoted and raises and fired etc.

When we are talking millions to billions it's akin to throwing a bag of pennies at an US medical bill, and somehow this will stabilize the company to ensure next year that 5% increase in gross revenue is hit and these people are forgotten. Laughable at best.

The real story here is that leadership has failed and corporate greed is more important than these employees' lively hood. Nothing like getting laid off just before Christmas in a down turned tech market to start 2024 while Tim Sweeney and friends go out and spend that cash, and boy does Tim like to spend money feel free to check out some of the shit this guy owns.

At the end of the day C level executives are the ones making the decision that put the company in this position but once again it's the IC employee's that have to pay the cost for the incompetence of overpaid leadership which clearly in this case failed the company.

Anyways I digress, don't worry your little hearts Epic isn't going anywhere and nor is it C level staff, just people like you are getting shit on.

Shockingly, people and systems will take advantage of what you aren't aware of and use it against you easily and successfully throughout the entire justice system and it's enforcers.

Or we can merge the 2nd and 4th, then Americans will care. In fact we should just merge everything into the 2nd. 9 out of 10 Americans don't know any other than the 2nd anyways. This seems like an easy win for us all.

The first half of what you are saying is true, but the second half isn't.

The game isn't moving towards "more no-life/streamer" in fact it's the opposite, statistically speaking there are more players now reaching level 100 than ever before with more ways to achieve this once impossible feat.

The average player/casual total value of bank stashes is up over 30% and on average compared to previous leagues and players are making it further into the game than ever before. This has increased player power significantly which in turn has allowed players to push further in less time.

There are more guides and resources and tools than ever before to help players make currency faster and remove "complexity" from the game.

In fact if you were ever interested in playing POE now is really the best league to jump and and try it out. I've been playing since beta and can pretty much say this as a fact, I would love to see someone debate me on this.

And as far as Ruthless is concerned, now that's worthy of a "Rofl", head over to Twitch or Youtube and show me more than two streamers actually playing Ruthless at the moment. You wont because Kripp is the only person still playing the mode and streaming that mode of play currently.

Why, well I can't say with 100% certainty, but it's probably because it is a boring way to play the game and the majority of viewers on Twitch clearly aren't as interested in watching someone grind on white maps for a month in the hopes of a single drop that is common in POE live or I would have to assume more than 1 streamer would be playing the mode.

Just about every top streamer played Ruthless for the first week or a couple days and quickly abandoned it except for Kripp whom is really an outlier, he has always held the title of the person that played the game on harder difficulties for example he primarily plays Hard Core and really was the only popular streamer to do so during early POE, now probably thanks to him there are a lot of HC players and even SSF HC players. But can he do the same for Ruthless and bring over players? doubtful.

Now personally I think Ruthless is a complete waste of development time and the resources should be put towards POE 2 or fixing long standing issues and QOL with POE 1. There is no way you would have me believe out of the possible 500k players that POE brings in every cycle that more than 10k of those players on spending time in Ruthless. The technical debt doesn't seem worth it from an engineering point of view to support this mode long term which is another way of saying financially.

In fact the only thing you ever hear about Ruthless is from Krip or some random nobody that posts on Reddit showing they did something that is really simple in POE Live, that is boringly time consuming in Ruthless. All of which is anecdotal but if we are basing this popularity on Twitch, Youtube, and Reddit the mode isn't popular.

I'm willing to gamble money that Ruthless will be gone by the release of POE 2 or within 4 league cycles and if it's not gone it will be in maintenance mode until they can figure out what to do with the dead mode. If you want that bet go ahead and PM me and we will head over to Draft Kings, I would love to take that money and get some more POE MTX.

Bring it on Chris Wilson.

Hi, I build games that psychologically exploit most children and some adults into dark gambling patterns.

And boy do I love my job, I bring so much joy to the world!

*own children get exploited*

Oh No! You're not hurting the right people!

It's OK, I'll just censor it from my children and pivot to educational games to teach Critical Gambling Theory.

I'm doing my part!

I've played FPS for a very long time, and I've played just about every violent game ever made if not almost every game ever made.

I have yet to strike out against the public violently in regards to my gaming.

But if there was ever going to be a game that would lead me to this it would be League of Legends.. just saying..

Hmm .. This reminds me of the Risk Your Life mmo that came out and offered the same thing haha and then posted this ..

It is with regret that we announce the cancellation of the “RYL: Path of the Emperor” $1,000,000 skill-based tournament.

Here's a tip from me to you, don't fall for this scam. You are now warned!

Johnson added that MMOs are "successful because you can't pirate WoW. You cannot pirate an MMO. Period." Therefore, he said, "game design on the PC is going to bend toward persistence."

This is incorrect. You can pirate WoW and there is WoW pirate servers running, there is few popular german ones. MMO's have been pirated ever since Ultima Online and I'm sure even before that.

Imo WoW was successful becuase it was released by a respected company known for quality and It was easy to use and play even more so then Everquest. Not to mention the huge following Blizzard already had.

You will never hear someone say " WOW is to hard for me " atleast I never have. There is more reasons I could go on. But one you wont ever hear me say is what Johnson said, that would just be plain stupid.
