The disappearing bodies annoy me, too... The last game I recall leaving bodies around was Return to Castle Wolfenstein... I think SOF2 also made it available as an option...

If the game has a lot of sameness to the areas then I want the bodies left so I can tell at a glance where I've already been...

It truly scares me to think I'm already on what you're taking, but I'll learn to live with it, I guess... along with my, apparently, less than stellar communicative abilities...

I think I probably like Ritual as much as anyone could but, c'mon.... The opening scene of that video instantly had me thinking of those levels in HL1 just before Zen... the design, the textures. Everything, actually.

Even the iron girders he shoots down look straight from HL2... Player perception of the weapons is identical, too...

That said, I still think it looks good and anything they've done has always been a lot of fun, so I'll be first in line for the starting episode and I'll see how it goes from there... I don't think you can piss on a game until you've played it, which I'm going to assume nobody here has;P

As for Single Player being dead... I'd like to see your figures backing this up. You have the stats on all games sold Vs. the total individuals playing them?... So, if I consider all those kids with Playstations, XBox's, Nintendo's, Segas and PC.... and, assuming you're correct, the five people in the universe without broadband or any version of Internet access and a copy of BF2... They are, in fact, outnumbered by people playing online?... I'll have 2 of whatever you're on, then I'm going to click my heals together and say 'There's no place like home'.... do hope it works for me, too!

When I buy games, I avoid anything without SP... Some of us are in our late 30's with a wife and a child or 3... I don't have a few hundred hours to kill in Everquest, nor do I have time I feck around levelling up in BF2...

Can't speak for any of those games..... however, if Mortyr 2 is any relation to Mortyr and I'm going to assume it is, this doesn't bode well for a triple-a title.... Came out around the time of Quake 3 and was a rip off of Wolfenstein.

Going back to just before Quake 2 was released, or maybe just after..... Either John Cash or Michael Abrash covered in one of their .plans what Carmack was working on, which was Trinity.

I can't be stuffed trying to find it, but the main feature they talked about was the same as Gabe Newell spoke of wanting to do with the HL2 engine. Make the next map and all the action going on there, actually visible to the player from his current position/map and slowly increase the resolution and render it in, the closer you got, until you were playing in that map without having suffered a level load.

If memory serves me. They described a series of pillars used to blot out parts of the distant scenery for some technical reasons I don't understand, so they could achieve the desired result.

They were talking Pentium 90's at this time;P

For whatever reason they discussed at the time, it was disbanded and Carmack had found his much loved bezier curves that became the mainstay of Quake 3.

Graymatters game idea for Trinity came much later. I'm sure they themselves even mentioned it was to capitolize on name id used for what became the Quake 3. Graymatters Trinity was set to use the Quake 3 engine around late 2002 to early 2003. Roughly eight years after the .plans I'm talking about mentioned the end of the Trinity idea for id.

As for DooM3.... Didn't much care for it the first time. Looked awesome, but the monster closets shit me to death. Played through it again after the expansion came out. Really enjoyed it. It's production values left the expansion looking pretty shit in comparison, though.

Just finished Quake 4 and it was a fun romp. I'm sure some of the artwork there was from DooM 3. Especially all those walls and ground lights in that area where you had to repair the train line.

Well, there is a prize..... you get to spend an entire week with him, so you better hope he's right for a complete change of pace;P

Regardless of how I've felt about different id games, Adrian's work has been a major advantage to them imo.

As for Romero... I wish him well. I played Daikatana start to finish. It had some impressive bits. It had some shit. I won't spend sleepless nights waiting for his next game.... unless I had shares in the publisher funding it....then I'd be suicidal....

I'm sad to say I missed how he became 'Assley'.... But, on the other hand.... before I'd even opened this thread, I half expected him in here saying something along those lines. I suppose on this occasion, he might even use the argument that no speach animations at all in Daikatana helped keep the player inside of an 'it's a game' mindset and not one of 'dem damn murder simulators like HL2;P

I have the Gold package, too.

When I opened Steam, the usual Steam Update screen gave me a link to pre-load. Under Day of Defeat: Source, right clicking gives me the option to pre-load as well.

Although having to right click on Pre Load, then click on 'Pre Load Now' seems a bit redundant.

That Gabe and Robin from Valve interview the other week had video footage showing the difference it made. Not sure it's the second coming, but it has to be a guest at the same party. Looked pretty damn good to me.
