All visual, no gameplay changes in this, not worth it.

I think it is over priced for just reskins and few wargear swaps, but if they are going to charge for DLC I much prefer it to be cosmetic only if its going to involve multiplayer in any way shape or form.

CoX was not a super hero/villain game but the EQ ripoff with abstract gear and a modern day/pulp tecture set.

They did great things with character creation but everything else was standard MMO stuff but less good.

I'm looking forward to SC2. Not because I think Blizzard is creating the next great RTS (DoW2 or CoH2 will probably be that) but purely because I like the setting and enjoyed the first one.

"All games are a waste of time. It's not solely the realm of MMO's. We play games to distract us from real life."

All non-reproductive sex is a waste of time ...oh wait, its fun.

"FloridaHoudini:
Generally doesn't happen with monthly paying stuff since you have to have an active subscription to enable stuff. Presumably even with the buy it once thing, its still checking to see that your CD key is valid, so I doubt that will happen.

For instance, you don't see much use for a cracked version of WoW do you? You still have to have a valid paid up account to play WoW, so all the crack does is get you the stuff on the retail cd, which can't be used.
Especially since blizzard shut down the alternative servers.

Note: I own WoW but havne't opened it, its too much of a time sink."

There are still many cracked WoW servers and clients out there FYI. Most don't offer teh full experience but some get rather close. Same deal for Lineage 2, Ultima Online and so on.

"And don't forget the dynamic in-game ads, which you see whether you're a paying subscriber or not!"

They are a feature, they make the game more real!!!!1111

"Hmm see theres a demo anyone play it?"

Yeah I played it and was unimpressed. Its completely medicore verging on shit in all areas.

Some people on other forums posted the Beta was better. I tried that it was the same medicore game but with slightly more variety in enemies, weapons and environments (all the environments are sameish so not a huge +). To some thing sup: demo sucked, beta sucked less.

All signs point to an average game that I might have picked up just to bash around with my friends. I don't think its worth putting up with advertisements and I definitely not worth a subscription. Even my fan boy friend who rep-ordered and almost did the life time subscription thing is completely underwhelemed.

I bet the new classes they are adding are the 3 classes which were supposed to be included in the release version back before they announced the subscription.

edit: Im not even sure its worth pirateing unlesss some decent bootleg servers pop up

I have never ever said anything like this before but I hope everyone not only chooses not to buy this game but pirate and hack the fuck out of it.

Not happy at all. I can probably afford yet another subscription but I realy don't want to. Especialy not for a game comprised entirely on instances.

Most MMOs don't produce enough content or provide enough support to justify their subscription fees, let alone action games.

Even episodic content is better than this

From reading forums:
Vanguard is a month from release but its a premature release as the developer has run out of money and SOE is not prepared to fork out more. Its got lots of technical issues, requires a very very beefy PC and still gives poor performance for small average results and has lots of bugs remaining. The game install is 17 gigs. Graphics are on par if slightly better than EQ2. Some good scenery. Animations are reported to be wooden and lacking polish.

As far as gameplay goes its supposed to be like EQ1 with lots of WoW bits tacked on. Its entirely PvE focused although it will have at least 1 PvP server type. The combat is fairly standard MMORPG WoW/EQ clone affair. UI is a WoW clone. You can solo early levels but content is fairly unforgiving and not grouping makes things harder after the first 20 levels. Mid- High level content is currently a bit sparse. The crafting supposed to be good. The game world is massive but apparently lack polish. Lots of races and lots of classes. Character creation is good but has limited hair options. It adds a diplomacy system to gain favour with NPCs like Oblivion but more of a simplified Magic the gathering affair (I don't know the exact mechanics).

Don't get excited, if you can get into open beta and your realy keen do so. If not wait for release and read the reviews. Personaly from what I've read I'd wait at least 6 months after before considering getting into the game.

I've been looking at just about every MMO currently in development, that have recieved any amount of press. The sheer majority of the MMOs are lame carebear WoW/EQ Clones that we have all seen time and time again. I have found a grand total of 1 game that offers something cool and pushes forward on the gameplay front. That is Darkfall. Unfortunatley this games been in development for so long its probably vapourware.

If MMOs are going to focus on PvE I expect gameplay as good as a single player game. There is no longer any excuse not to, especialy if the game uses instances.

If the MMO is going to go the PvP root theres no reason not to offer gameplay on par with an online FPS

As far as FPS games go, Halo wasn't that great. It was a straight shoot-em up with bad levels and a poor plot. It did introduce some half decent AI to an otherwise standard FPS exerpience.
