I get the realistic physics angle, which is also not my thing if I can't realistically use a mouse as the primary controller for the ship, but what I was referring to was something more. For example, when Elite came out the mouse and keyboard had the same level of responsiveness (perhaps just in the beta, it's been a while and I played with that as well). Due to "feedback from the community" (e.g. whining from keyboard people) the mouse was "dumbed down" so it did not offer the same level of responsiveness as the keyboard. I guess the thought was because the mouse was so much more functional in terms of aiming / targeting and so forth than the keyboard that keyboard players weren't competitive or whatever. So they changed it.
