Yeah, it was alright but that's it. Way to grindy and repetitive. I didn't have a problem finishing it but have zero desire to ever go back to it again.

Planning a vacation. This year's vacation theme is National Parks and Monuments. Enjoy them while they still exist.

Has anyone ever been to White Sands National Monument in New Mexico?

If so, any advice on what to do, what to see, and where to stay (hotel), etc?

*raises hand*

I have Bob! Yeah, White Sands is amazing - if you're into the whole desert thing. As I've stated around here before New Mexico is my fave state - as far as the physical geography goes. Carlsbad Caverns are cool too. Since you're in So Cal you may want to consider heading up Utah way instead. The Natural Bridges National Monument is there and it's supposed to be amazing. Haven't been myself, but it's on my to do list. It's also considered a dark zone so has some of the best stargazing in North America, or so I'm told.

Thanks for the well wishes. I tell you, I wish I had been a little more thorough in my research. I thought I had everything covered before I made this decision but as always there are some things that can crop up that you just won't know about it. However, what really pisses me off atm, is that the surgeons do know these things and it's not like they readily volunteer them. I think they tend to gloss over the downsides because otherwise it's going to scare off most potential customers patients. Going to see my fam doctor tomorrow and ask him for a referral to another ENT to follow up with because I no longer trust this guy.

I have no choice now but to tough it out and hope everything works out. Fuck me, I am just dreading it may not and I may have to go back under the knife. Too early to tell for that yet but it's hard not to dwell on the kind of shit after all the complications particularly when you reading about other people online who had the same surgery and sailed through it no problems. I should be so lucky. Oi vey!

Hope things get better for you too Ant! You're everyone's favorite arthropod around here!

And good luck on you hunt, SMA. Find a nice jewish neighborhood with a good deli, and settle down with a nice jewish girl. Don't be a meshuganh goyim!

Highfive

He was in for heart surgery - though I don't know what exactly - and he had a stroke post-op from which they couldn't save him. People forget a lot of people go in for surgery, of all kinds, at any age, and don't come out. It's not something to be approached lightly ever. I'm still having complications and problems 2 weeks on now and it was elective fucking day surgery. Anyway, that sucks, everyone loved Bill. Actually just watched Aliens a few days ago too.

Yeah, I just don't understand how someone can be such a bootlick and be willing to fuck over their fellow man for the sake of a buck. Too bad I have a moral compass and a conscience or I could have been a rich man.

The only thing the article leaves out and I'm wondering if it was a factor is if vodka was involved in any of this. I'm for thinking it probably was.

Seriously, do you really want your AI to code for you? Seems like an all around stupid Idea.

Seeing how badly flawed most human code is, why now. If it can become the translator to create programs just from described input from the end user that'd be amazing. I have no more reason to either trust or distrust an AI coding a program than I do a person. Imagine being able to create a video game without programming skills simply by dictating it. Amazing!

I think it depends upon where you find your zen, so to speak. I've lived an extremely urban lifestyle after living a very rural lifestyle and hated it. Living on-top of each other like rats, no personal green space, and constant noise made me ditch a well-paying job and a downtown Seattle apartment to go back to rural living.

Today, I hopped on my mower, mowed my acre and a half lawn, got all my vegetables planted as we have an early spring, played with my dog, and chatted with my neighbor as he had come down the road when I was out getting the mail. He lives just a hair over a mile down the road from me. Outside of him, I didn't see another living human being today. It was quiet outside of the normal noises of nature and the breeze.

That's living the dream as far as I'm concerned. I loved the city life as a young man. Good times were had. That's all over now, baby blue. I'm trying to get to exactly what you just mentioned, space, peace, quiet. I take a quiet country drive once a week and I find it's the only time now where it just really relaxes the hell out of me.

you'll want to bring in a lot more fermented foods that can replenish the probiotics in the gut, since fasting will deplete the overall biotic environment as it flushes and renews cells..

gut flora is mostly provided externally - in essence its just a symbiosis with our environment

Yeah, I know, that's next on the list as they say 70% of your immune system is the gut. Gonna' pick up some books on lacto-fermenting foods too and get right into it. I've always loved those kinds of foods anyway so it's a win for me. Plus this is the year I tackle the backyard, so I'll be putting in 3, maybe 4, raised beds for veg, and possibly a small - 8'x12' greenhouse too. So I'll need a way to store all that veg anyway. Also been reading up on root cellaring too, which I find interesting. It's amazing how long food can last when stored in the right conditions without refrigeration. That's something we've forgotten as a culture we need to start re-learning.

As for the fasting, there are upsides as well, like lowering your insulin and IGF-1 factors which is super important for everything. I'll likely be doing it to shed the 50lbs I need to than just go down to once per week as maintenance, which is what most people do with intermittent fasting. Main thing is trying to end all the issues related to inflammation that come with age, so I've been reading a ton on the subject and it's been most edifying. These sorts of things are something we should all be doing as a lifestyle from cradle to grave. I recall a few years back Harvard Medical school said something to that effect like 90-95% of all health problems, diseases, etc. could be eliminated simply by proper diet and exercise so long as it's a lifelong commitment. Still, better late than never.

Have you considered going vegetarian as a trial? I suggest giving a go for about a month. You might be surprised at the positive results at the positive results in digestion, energy levels, etc. It's easy to substitute that meat texture with beans, mushrooms, and other veggies.

Personally, I've been vegetarian (no meat or dairy products) for about 6 months and have lost some weight, focus better, and find that my energy levels are consistently higher, probably because I'm not digesting meat.

Worth a try?

I'm going that way. Well mostly plant based at any rate. Going to be getting on board with a caloric restriction diet/intermittent fasting - i.e. The Fast Diet.

I already have a lot of healthy cookbooks that are mostly vegetarian based but I just added 2 more to the library and I can't recommend these enough. The recipes are vegetarian, simple, healthy and delicious.

Any idea how UA is coming along as it's been delayed?

No, what this article clearly illustrates that only the criminally insane are fans of Nvidia.

Seriously though, 9.5 years? That's fucking it? This is why the world not only needs a global death penalty, but we also need summary executions in open and shut cases like these. Just take them out of the courtroom around back of the courthouse to a firing squad and be done with it.

I'd like to see them do something like Bioshock but as a proper CRPG, isometric or full 3D, I'm easy either way, but more story/RP/less shooter.

Doesn't matter, Blue. Soon you're going to have to hand in your NY teams fan card anyway as you're going to be a member of the great state of PA and root for all teams and things PA! I admit it's going to be weird to see you switching over to talking about the Eagles and 76ers all the time.

It has to be a stiff enough fine to prevent anyone from filing a illegitimate claim. Even for actual rights-holders it should stop and give them pause. Most of those claims go up against Fair Use. A lot of people/corps are simply trying to shut down anything whatsoever related to their ownership if they're not getting paid and that's not right. So yeah, I'd say 5K for the first false claim is a good start and it should double automatically for each subsequent false claim. That'd put and end to this nonsense PDQ.
