Absolutely, the have the best engine on the market, they should just make a brand new front end to it, say a 3D front end right on top of the existing engine, that would revitilize UO right there. UO, from a functionality stand point, is way better than anything on the MMo market right now.

You really don't know what an engine is, do you.

All they're doing is catering to where 80%+ of their subscribers are now -- Asia. UO is an empty shell compared to what it was.

Having fun with the people I play, but finding no real in-game content

As long as you keep paying them, they don't care about whether you have problems with the game. If you want them to stop making shitty games like this, don't keep rewarding them for it. It's that simple.

You know absolutely nothing and your "education" was a waste, and it's more than evident in every single post that you write. Your facts are biased, your perception askew, and your outlook flawed.

In short, you're an idiot.

Have a nice day

Quit making me nostalgic for UO.

It's a game that hasn't come close to being copied yet -- even though Raph tried to do it with SWG (and failed, in my opinion). I think my great hope really was that they'd be able to do just that. It's like they tried to create a UO/EQ hybrid; trying to appeal to both camps, but ending up appealing to neither.

And frankly, as far as forced "socialization" -- no matter how I think about it, it annoys me. I understand their reasons for doing it (social capital prolongs subscriptions), but it's one of the several things that just plain turn me off about this game. 95% of the people you're going to meet in MMOs are people you don't want to have anything to do with... and now you're forcing me to socialize with them? Gee, thanks.

Also, when could you only be a Grandmaster of 1 profession in UO? I'm pretty sure the skill cap was always 700 post-release. But that was a while back and my memory may be spotty

Um Elsyium is that why Lord British was killed due to a bug, and the fact that everyone in the square where he was killed was killed cause Lord Blackthrone Summoned Demons, yet the lag was so bad everyone just lagged out and died?

I suggest you THINK before you speak.

I said

I guess you never heard of DAoC. Or EQ. Or UO, for chissake'. UO Beta 2 was a better product that SWG is right now, at release. And UO Beta 2 wasn't exactly stable.

... and I'm the one who should think before I speak?

and as a sidenote, the game is one of the most stable games launched.

I played UO for 3 years, and DAoC for about 4-5 months after release. I reactivated my DAoC account after I tried SWG because it sucked so goddamn much.

Seriously. Combat could NOT be shittier if they tried. Not to mention the retarded Battle Fatigue and Shock Wounds.

Why YES, I do want to spend 30 minutes watching some guy dance in a Cantina! In fact, force me to do it! That'll make a great game!

For those who don't know: you accumulate Shock Wounds/Battle Fatigue while you're out fighting. These affect your stats. Eventually, you have to return to town to have Entertainers and Medics heal them off you. Basically, for every 1-2 hours you'll play, you'll have 30 minutes of wasted time while you get rid of shock wounds. And that's on *top* of the downtime you have between fights anyway, which is pretty long itself. Just terrible.

SWG is about as casual-player friendly as an enema. Totally non-intuitive gameplay, and such basic, basic problems with the design. Ugh.

  • New ICARUS II scripting system for Single player and Multiplayer. Now allows for scripted events in multiplayer matches.

I wonder if this means it'll be possible for modders to make co-op levels.

Prices at gas stations work completely off of supply and demand (well, you can throw outrageous taxes in on this one). What would indicate otherwise to you?

Try to put aside conspiracy theories regarding "big oil" and the "Bush dynasty" that's been force fed to you by the lying liberal socialist machine.
ahahaha

jesus you're an idiot

Gas pricing is based of supply and demand... except SUPPLY is decided by OPEC. It's not price fixing, but it has the same effect: they just limit production when they want the price to go up.

OMG MASSIVE LIBERAL MEDIA SOCIALIST BUZZWORD CONSPIRACY

Go back to the O'Reilly Factor.

NDA's down now, ladies. Let me hear why it's such a great game. Not that I haven't already heard it and rebuffed them on the beta boards... but I'm in the mood for some more action.

And to anyone complaining about the price: yes, 15$ is a bit steep -- but monthly fees with any MMO are a given. If you're not willing to pay a monthly fee... then don't even bother considering any MMOs. Yes, I feel 15$ is a bit too steep; but it's only one reason out of practically hundreds that I won't get this game. Price, combined with Single Character Servers, combined with seriously the most boring and uninteresting combat and advancement system I've ever played, combined with a plethora of bugs, combined with the shitty shitty way the Dynamic Spawning system turned out, combined with the annoyance and frustration that embodies crafting, combined with totally unbalanced combat, combined with (repeat ad nauseum).

As I've said before: SWG is a great game... until you're done creating your character. It can be a simply beautiful game to look at, but it has 0 in terms of substance. It's The Sims Online, but in a half-hearted Star Wars setting.

This game is one step forward -- and 5 steps back. If possible, this is a buggier and less stable game than UO was at launch. Rather than maturing along with the market, and coming out with a game that's stable and fun, they're coming out with a game that makes me yearn for old days of UO. And that's disappointing, especially after the very stable launch DAoC had. Most people thought it was a turning point for MMO games -- but it's a shame that the trend didn't continue.

It's not worth my money; and it's not worth yours. Don't buy it, hoping it will get better -- I've played MMO's, and it's just not worth the frustration and added cost. Wait 6 months; wait a year. If it's still around, and they've actually made it enjoyable to play... then buy it. Don't buy it in anticipation of something it "might" be.

#79 and #101, there was a similar tally on the beta boards. After about 450 posts, it was 90.39% saying "no" and 9.61% saying "yes."

The game is great... until you finish creating your character. It's all downhill from there.

Some people like this game... but jesus there aren't many of them, and the ones that do and can write a post about why combat is interesting, or why the crafting is good, or even better than what's already out there, are nonexistant. You might like it. But frankly... it's a terrible game. I had very low hopes to begin with (I've played MMO's for a long time and know how they turn out), and even I was disappointed after trying it out.

A lot of the time, ATI doesn't have a fix, and it rests on the coders/developers of a particular game to fix a problem. With ATI it's like every other game you have to "fix" something so it will work properly... no thanks.

Nvidia works the first time around. Not once in 5 years have I had to get any kind of support on my cards aside from updating my drivers... they just *work*. There's no doubt the performance on the latest generation just can't match ATI, but that's not the only deciding factor for me, and I don't think anyone who's at least semi-critical of the situation would see it any other way.

Even up until last year when I was installing ATI cards, my clients still reported constant problems with them. Their drivers are still ass; better than their Rage days, but that doesn't mean much.

Quite frankly, I care more about stability than I do about performance... so I'm sticking with nvidia for now.

It'll be interesting to see if EA-published games no longer offer support for ATI cards though.

Why did they have to take the same, absolutely HORRIBLE server browser from Q3:TA and just plop it in? You can't find your friends online, you can't see if a server is passworded, there's no button to join by IP (yeah, there's /connect), the server list "window" is tiny and has a ridiculously oversized font... and why the heck if a server is full and you press ESC does it boot you to the main menu?

Open up Half Life. Look at the server browser. Then, open up UT and look at the server browser. Both are easy to use, have loads of options, and don't cause spontaneous combustion.

Is a browser that doesn't cause massive brain hemorrhages so hard to do?
